To get my car a little lower I switched to some TCKline springs
in the rear - but they're only 500#. The car feels very wallowy
when I'm on the throttle going over uneven surfaces so I'm gonna
go for some 600 or 650's. I've read that Eibach makes the most
consistent springs in rate and length and their Elite Series

springs
are barrel-shaped so they work well in the rear of a BMW. Fairly
cheap as well - TCKline are $97ea, the Eibachs are only $76 @

Why not just a set of bc coilovers?

Why not just a set of bc coilovers?
[/quote]
BMW's don't have coilovers in the back, the springs and shocks
are separate, so there's no point. Also I don't have any idea
where BC sources their springs but I guarantee they're not as
quality as Eibach considering Eibach Elite and Platinum are used
in professional race cars. And lastly - I have no idea what size
and rate they are - so when I find I don't like the rates, how
do I know what springs to buy to replace them? Call BC and order
some more mystery springs?
So why waste my money on BC? I'm well past the phase of thinking
coilovers are "matched" or some other malarkey. Every driver has
their own way of setting up their car the way they feel most
comfortable. No off-the-shelf set of coilovers is going to be
able to do that.
Before you bring up that Chelsea DeNofa uses BC, let me remind
you that BC is a major sponsor of him. When was the last time
you saw a suspension manufacturer as the major sponsor of a real
race car? You don't. FD is just so small of a series that there
aren't any real sponsors there yet. When McDonald's and Dewalt
are on the side of an FD car, you'll see real suspension
companies like Eibach, Koni, Bilstein, etc as sponsors and
they'll be MINOR sponsors even though those are the top players
in the world. BC Racing prolly won't even be around when FD
reaches that level.

Just so you know, Chelsea's family owns bc racing, which is why
they are a major sponsor of his loll, and they use swift springs.
If you called up bc they would recommend a spring setup for your
car. Chelsea is the manager at bc also. So you might be able to
just talk to him, if you called.

I thought it was his company but wasn't 100% positive. But that
doesn't get me interested, it's actually a deterrent. Their
company has no history. I'm not spending Bilstein money for
that.

I personally like BC. That's what I plan on running (right now
i'm set up on knockoffs.) I like the design that lets you raise
or lower the car without effecting the amount of travel you
have. I know more and more companies are making this design
these days. I would say don't hate on them, who better to design
a quality product than the guy actually using it...

You just implied that Bilstein/Koni/Eibach/etc doesn't use any
of their own product.

Well you implied that Chelsea using his own product was a
negative. I'm sure they do but none of them offer the coilover
design I like. And you can't buy them as a package. Bc stuff is
designed as a package.

Bilstein PSS, PSS9 and PSS10 are all the same price as the BC
Racing stuff(about $1k for PSS to around $2k for PSS10) And that
doesn't make sense to me. While Chelsea may be a "professional"
drifter, the reality is he's an amateur race car driver, and I
didn't realize BC Racing was so new to the market until I
started looking them up. I can't justify those costs. Bilstein
supplies real race cars.

Another thing that bothers me about coilovers in general for our
cars is why I'm spending the same amount of money for half the
product. Our cars don't have coilovers in the back. All we get
are a pair of shocks, springs and adjusters. There's no pre-load
adjustment, you don't have the nice threaded steel shock bodies,
it's just standard off-the shelf stuff. So why am I still paying
the same amount? Now coming from Bilstein - it's a
world-renowned company that supplies the likes of F1 - if you
want the best, you're gonna fckin pay for it. But BC Racing? Why
the price-gouging? To "support" someone else's dreams? What
about my dreams? Now I feel I'm being played the fool.
The more I look into BC, the more I realize I'll prolly never
buy anything from them.
