Mike (or anyone else who knows the answer) is the cage in the
last pic considered FD spec? I ask because the rule book calls
out no more than 4 bends totaling a max of 180 degrees. Maybe
its just the picture but that definitely appears to be more than
180. Or is this something that gets waived by tech regularly? I
have a cage I was looking at for cheap but decided against
because of this very issue.

It looks fine to me but it appears to be missing the new brace
that FD has just started requiring this season.

LOL at FD having their own cage requirements in the first place.
Because FIA obviously doesn't know what they're doing...

I'm gonna disagree with you on that. I think FD having more
strict rules is legit. To me I can see drifting as beingg
inherently more dangerous than most other forms of racing. With
1000hp cars sliding sideways at 80mph only inches of the door of
another car, and all the spinning and hitting shit that occurs
way more often than any other racing.
As far as the cage in Mike's pic that I was wondering about, the
bottom of the main hoop is definitely beyond parallel indicating
beyond 180 degrees of bends.

Cars going 150MPH+ trumps anything that can happen in FD. FIA
has their **** together literally on the rest of the planet.
Only the US makes up their own standards. Whether it's for
money, delusions of grandeur, or simply to make it harder for
other people to compete here and make us look stupid, it doesn't
really matter - every reason for it is bad.
*edit*
Censoring cuss words? I really didn't expect this to be a kiddie
site.

ya I haven't gotten around to changing that.
But... I don't think FD has their own cage requirements. That
brace from the main hoop to the halo or A-pillar bar isn't
mandatory I don't think. It's just a common Rally cage tube.
Actually they may have their own door bar requirements. Which
would make sense. The side of a barrier T-boning a car is
probably worst case and more likely in drifting.

it's a cage i did for a customer. basing the angle measurement
solely off of the interior b pillar sheet metal can be deceiving
because that area is actually starting to angle towards the
center of the car.
FD cage rules (and most other cage rules I've seen) specify the
main hoop to be 180* +/- 10*. The main hoop in the pic you're
referencing is definitely towards the +10* of that spec, but not
over.
