This seems like an awesome idea!
I think we need to have something like this in the midwest as
well. Our pro am series has 700hp 2Jz's and i saw on Face book
that Whaley is planning on making around 900hp with his GTO next
year. This stuff really spreads the gap between the people who
are just getting into competitions, and the people who have been
stuck in Pro-Am for 5 years.. (not to be offensive at all please
don't take it that way, i understand that not everyone should be
in FD after 2-3 years.) However, if you can't even qualify
because you have a 350-400hp Sr20det s13 then that really puts a
damper on your seat time and motivation to compete.
i dunno... just thinking out loud. What are you're guys's
thoughts?

The problem with FormulaD isn't that the cars have 1,000hp -
it's that all of the tracks they run have HUGE run-ups and
100mph turns. They're focused on speed and that drag-race to the
first turn.
While this new series is good in theory - it's really just gonna
end up being people with money to import a european S54 to drop
in their E46 vs. ones with money to import a red-top for their
S13. It's really not gonna change a thing. Smaller track layouts
are what a series needs to keep competition close and
affordable.
I'm not really sure what's up with no hydraulic e-brakes either.
That just seems weird. If anything, every car should have one.
Why is it OK to drop $8k on a european motor but not $1k for a
handbrake?

Read that a while back. Sounds like a good effort. I'm sure
after the first year of trial and error, they will change some
rules.

Yeah, i think the ebrake rule is dumb as well. Hydro's make
things easier for your car as well. As for the swap thing.. a hp
limit would be nice, but that's asking for a lot. Let them only
make 350hp, but allow them to make as much torque as they want.
and make them have stock internals only.
meh?
Also, quick edit. If you have the money to toss at putting an
s54 into your e46 so you can go whoop on all the budget minded
folks, you're whats wrong with grassroots drifting. go compete
in MDU and USdrift. lol for that kind of money you can 2j, or
turbo s52 (or whatever one it is) you're e46 and be really
competitive.

What venues was this guy even planning to use in the first
place? We need smaller tracks that are focused more on skill
than power. Or maybe instead of putting a tire manufacturer
restriction on things, put a tire size restriction. 1,000hp
isn't going anywhere on a 235. People will have to de-tune their
cars to make them more useable.

Fuck hp or tire restrictions, build the best car YOU can afford,
worry about (in this order), not spinning, linking the course,
clipping points, getting your car to every event in the series.
Im willing to bet people bitching about to much hp, tire size,
and huge run ups cant do these things.
Me? I know im broke, im a hobbist, idgaf whats happening at the
pro am, pro 2, or fd levels, imma keep hitting tnt for 10$

I dunno, that place looks like it could get boring real quick.
Maybe if they rounded off the corners of the figure-8 so you
could really connect some turns.
