Personality: Clever and levelheaded, Gideon is a pleasant and
capable young man who optimistically approaches all of life's
hardships as problems to be solved. He genuinely believes with
proper planning and a willing spirit, nothing is impossible. A
good person to have on hand in emergencies, although his
optimistic nature also gives him a tendency to trust too easily
and makes him rather easy to trick despite his smarts.
Skills/Talents: Gideon's an excellent shot with his magitek
pistol, and his magical training gives him access to spells that
increase mobility. Gideon can enchant himself, other people, and
sufficiently light objects to speed up, slow down, float, and
even fly around, something he can use to traverse even rough
environments easily, get out of trouble quickly, and fire
eccentric shots that are hard to anticipate.
Bio: Like all the citizens of Aethros, Gideon grew up living a
peaceful life far above the ground and its deadly mists. The
wars that had once swept the land before the mists came and the
floating islands of Aethros were raised into the sky are ancient
history to Gideon, although a subject he studied with some
interest. Gideon believed the stories of his parents telling him
there was no life left on the long-abandoned surface, and
appreciated the peace that ruled on the floating islands all the
more when he studied the ancient histories and learned how much
bloodshed had come before. Even so, he wondered about the world
before the mists, and what it would have been like to live on a
surface free of war and poison. The islands of Aethros were
enough to host a thriving population, but Gideon was an explorer
at heart who soon realized how very small his world really was.
While it seemed to come as an answer to his restlessness of
being able to navigate the entirety of the "world" in a matter
of days, Gideon was no more pleased by the first warnings of
disaster than anyone else. Small as it was, Aethros was a
paradise, and the troubled rumbling of the islands' floatation
devices was a warning of doom to the happy life its people had
built for themselves. While many fell into fear, however, Gideon
saw a problem he could solve. The materials that had made the
wondrous flight possible a thousand years ago were still present
on the surface, and while the maps were far out of date, they
would at least give a skilled team an idea of where to start
searching. When the notion of an expedition to the surface was
put forward, Gideon volunteered first, armed with all the
knowledge of the old world he could gather and every tool and
spell he could grab or memorize.
The expedition is a mission Gideon feels he was born to
undertake. While he understands the dire need of his home for
the mission to succeed, he has set out for the surface in high
spirits. He's as ready as he'll ever be for adventure, and he
has a good crew with him. Together, they'll surely succeed and
save their home! And in the meantime...there's a forgotten world
waiting for all of them, one no one has seen in centuries!
