2014 Monster Hunter International Guild Hall Extra Life Charity
Drive

---------------------------------------------------------
On October 25th, gamers world-wide start what is known as the
Extra Life Charity drive. This charity drive is run, supported,
and funded by gamers and is focused on giving every child access
to proper medical care they need. The charity that Extra Life
partners with is the Children's Miracle Network, and all funds
raised go directly to help children in need of medical attention
get the care they need. Each donation goes through a person's
profile to their selected hospital, meaning you can make a
difference wherever you see a need for help.
<The Purpose>
So where does this group come into play? Well, Extra Life
recently implemented a team functionality, meaning that people
can join a group to raise awareness and money for these kids and
a scale previously unattainable. While you cannot directly
donate to the group itself, all members in the group that
receive donations have that money reflected in the group,
meaning the Monster Hunter Guild is not restricted to helping
just one hospital. Wherever our members see a need for help, our
whole group can help them out. You donate to any of your fellow
members, and in doing so you help everyone out. Alternatively,
you can make your own donation page and join our team to raise
funds for your local hospital!
While only a few hospitals are listed outside of the US, I
highly recommend the Boston Children's Hospital for
international donations. I set my profile to donate to there, so
you can donate through Dylan Bradway for that hospital.
<How To Donate>
As mentioned, you cannot donate directly to the group. "So what
is the purpose of this, then?" I hear you asking. The answer is
that all donations a member of the group receives is also sent
to the team you are in. So you pick a member from the team
roster and donate to them, and it reflects both in their team as
well as their individual page.
You want to raise money for a local hospital? Click "Join Team"
at the following link
(
HTML http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=18900),<br
/>and you'll be prompted to make an account, where you choose
your
personal goals, team (should default to our group if you clicked
the link!), and other information. When you're all done, you'll
have your own page and will be listed in our team's roster,
where anyone else can go and support your hospital!
<Didn't You Say Something About Games?>
Yes! This is where Extra Life is different from most drives. In
Extra Life, people are encouraged to play games, video or
traditional, in a 24 hour marathon to raise support for their
hospital using their donation page link. In our case, we will be
sharing either the group's roster or your personal page as we
stream on October 25th, the official day for Extra Life. While
you play, regularly remind viewers to check the link and donate,
and share it as much as possible!
So you have the ability to stream, but how do we do this as a
group? Well, attached is a link to a document that you can enter
your stream link, time you plan on streaming (Eastern Standard
Time, please), and your name. Please, only start a new row if
you will be hosting a stream! The reason for this is 2-fold.
1st, we want to keep the sheet organized and easily viewable, so
we can share the schedule even with non-hunters. 2nd, and most
important, is that not everyone can stream, but many will still
want to participate. You'll notice in the document there are 6
additional positions beside the host, and these are to be filled
by people who want to join the streamer's marathon. Please, only
fill out a Hunter slot if you know you can make it to that
stream. Otherwise, fill out your name in a "Hunter for hire"
slot, which will be a back-up slot for people to tag in from.
<What About 3DS Users?>
I know your pain! Without the online capabilities of 4U, those
of us with MH3DS can't really stream. However, if you can still
stream something else, (preferably monster hunter related), you
can still fill out a slot: just be sure to mark your row with
the specific game you'll stream. Otherwise, you're encouraged to
go and support your fellow hunters as they marathon for a good
cause! All of their links will be in the document attached.
<So Anything Else Before This Monster Post Attacks The Village?>
Like I said, just remember that the donations through our group
are done by donating to the members you see in the team roster.
Feel free to make a page, just be sure to join the team,
otherwise we can't see and support you and vice-versa. When you
create your profile and join the team, feel free to share the
link here and let us know who you're supporting!
Also, if you can't play 24 hours, that's okay! We're doing this
as a group, and you need to stay healthy. Combined, we'll most
likely trounce the hours played for charity by most other
groups! Take breaks, stay hydrated, and walk around: don't put
yourself in the hospital trying to raise money for them!
Happy and safe hunting, my friends!
