Seized gearbox filler plug

My MGB gearbox filler plug doesn't want to move. I am in danger
of rounding the corners of the bolt. Is heating the area around
the bolt a good idea, or not. I have tried all the usual
penetrating oil, etc. Any suggestions would be welcome ;D

It is hammer time, have you got good access?
Try tapping the nut gently as you put pressure on the spanner
and make sure the spanner is a good fit you should be able to
use a multi hex socket on it, but do not apply brute force
because as you say you will round the corners off, and don't
"hit" the nut with hammer good solid tapping and lots of it will
possibly shift it. You will probably not get a lot of joy from
heating it unless you use a oxygen/acetylene torch as there will
be a lot of heat dissipation into the casing and the oil inside,
do be careful though.

Tried all that. The idea of heat is that the casing is an alloy
and will expand differently to the plug. The heat I will use wil
be not too fierce and should not affect the oil. Fire fighting
stuff will be handy though 8) 8) 8)
