Don't know about conditioners, but in recent years I have been
buying only BOSCH batteries. They've came down a lot in price
and are now very competitive. They give a 4 year guarantee,
don't seem to need trickle charging and after a winter layup
seem to retain their charge.
Cant praise them enough. In one of the cars I persevered with
the old 6V jobs for years, with sluggish poor engine turnover
and barely lasting a year. Totally useless and so expensive.
Bosch 12v are less than half the price giving infinitely more
performance and starting crank.
Just my tuppenceworth, I don't have shares in Bosch!.

I was unfortunate enough to have the two six volt batteries fail
in Sweden when returning from the European Event of the year. I
was pressured into buying replacement ones from a Danish MGC
specialist, that was in 2012 and they have given good service
without conditioner or charging, I do run the engine half a
dozen times during the winter and make sure the electrolyte is
at the correct level. I always say that Batteries are a black
art you get Friday ones as well as Monday ones, luck of the draw
as far as I can make out. I never turn the car over cold with
the clutch pedal down it seems to add drag to the engine and is
usually reluctant to start first time.
Will be popping out to start the engine tomorrow . a

Have just been out to the car to give it a wee idle. Started
second turn of the key with choke out, in neutral, no throttle
has not been started since early sept. Batteries coped with no
hesitation.
As I said earlier it is a black art and a bit of luck with the
friday/monday battery purchase.

Well Done Willy.
I do think that is the exception rather than the rule. Unless of
course others know better? Please tell us your battery
experiences. I have now ditched all of the 6V batteries , and
substituted with two off 12 V wired in parallel, to give extra
cranking (yes I did say cranking!) The small Bosch 12V fit in
each battery cradle and are less than half the price of an
archaic 6V. I love my cars to be original, but this is a no
brainer.
Why MG persevered with two 6 Volts's, is a mystery. Having said
that, up until around the war, they were mainly 2 x 6v, then
strangely for TD and TF, and Y type, they went back to single
12V, then for MGA onwards they reverted back to 2 x 6V! Weird!

I would suspect money and a good deal from the supplier is the
reason they reverted back to two 6v batteries.
