MAKING A SPEAR; FOR FISHING

says to ALL: It was early and still I had not attempted to Make
any type of spear.... The slaves had bought Me food Leaving it
just inside of the Hut for when I woke...I was almost sure They
were watching...I was sure they knew when I slept and when I was
awake for I never saw a sole person come to My door... they were
good Like that I am guessing
I paused just out side of the hut... and Moved over to the fire
making sure the water was boiling and added some tea... so it
could brew while I went looking for the sapling I needed...
I trod soft over the forest floor... My boots so used to this
sort area...and how to move ...I had no concern for myself today
I had slept well and was happy with myself... I had not felt so
comfortable Like this in a long time....But I enjoyed My own
time.. and my direction in life Not what others planned for
me....I reached up and gripped one of the smaller Branches and
tugged On it.... trying to see if it was straight enough... But
that was impossible so I gripped the small axe handle and pulled
the axe off my belt and began to chop at the Branch …. till it
fell it was tall and straight approx two inches in diameter..
and dragged the branch back to the Farm

says to ALL: I lay The branch over a huge rock... and placed my
axe down on the ground for Now and lent back taking In a Deep
Breath Of The clean air...My mind lost in something ...something
I needed to sort and here would do that for me.... On my hip was
sheathed a 9 inch double edged blade I removed it from The
sheath... and lay the Branch to The rock.....slowly Cleaning The
small Branches from it leaving it naked of its Branches. The
blade slowly moving Over the length of the spear.... scraping
all the extra... loose..then Lay the end to The rock...I started
by placing a Pressure cut around the perimeter of the branch
simply applying a heavy pressure while rotating the knife around
the wood......After I had done That I carved away on the short
side..shaving away the wood..the short end becomes pointed the
long end remains flat ...This was Now done and with the Hilt of
my quiver I tap it till the short bit falls free,,, then I lift
it to check it over ...My finger moved as if to check on the
wood....
Lifting the branch and pushing it against The Base of the tree I
place My booted foot on the rock balancing the branch and
Pushing the end hard against The Base of the tree..feeling It
secure....I rolled My lips together as if thinking...But I had
done This so many times before.. I lay the quiver across the
freshly broken end of the branch resting it exactly in the
middle...I reached Over to get a small thicker branch and used
it to tap on the Blade... as the blade Moved down in to the
sapping it split even and controlled...the blade moving exactly
down The middle cutting the end in half leaving a slit...then
taking the blade out and laying it in the other direction to
make a cross and again tapping the blade in to the wood....to
make another cut....This time making it perpendicular to the
other and making divide in to four sections.

says to ALL: I lifted it to Look it Over making sure The cuts in
to the wood were strong and The wood would hold well enough....I
tugged One of the leather strapping Placed The blade on the rock
and began to wrap the leather cord round the sapping about 16
inches from the end and bound the leather round and round
ensuring This would not allow The wood to split any further
i breathed in slow... controlled... My concentration fixed On
what I was doing...I would Not allow My thoughts to wander...I
needed to be fixed to what I was doing right this Minute...and
didnt allow...nothing to filter into My thoughts....a soft growl
escaped my lips....one that let out some built up frustration
from inside.....it was not That important but when I could focus
on things other then me and what surrounded me i was better... i
could breathe.....when That was done I pushed the Blade once
again down the cuts till the blade reached the binding...making
sure both cuts were even and in the right Place... I placed the
Spear down and sat on the rock and searched for two smaller
Twigs and cut them about the same size...making sure they were
long enough....with That I picked up the spear and slid the
twigs as far up as i could to the bindings...then sliding the
second down the slits the four parts spreading to form the
prongs for the spear....and making sure the lashing held The
small twigs in place.. and then secured it....I lay the spear on
my thigh as I looked to find My quiver....

says to ALL: I looked up the sound of nothing no sounds just the
wildlife .. I gave a slight smirk and continued with what I was
about to do.... slowly I ran the blade along the spikes to make
the pointed sharpening one at a time
I stood looking Over the spear ..I had to smile...was good to
have something I now could use to gather the fish.. [/center]
