-- is upon the Street of Coins where Merchants extend loans and
exchange the coinage and bank notes of various cities --
says to ALL: The market always filled me with great awe. It was
this place where people from every corner of Gor could come and
enjoy various games and competitions, participate in Caste
discussions, make an offering to their gods and if that wasn’t
enough, there were endless merchant booths with items for
purchase and the tavern and central tent where the free could
enjoy food and drink and entertainment put on by slaves. The
fair had slaves of its own, which were rented to serve the free
and the free often traveled with their own slaves, making the
fair one place where no free man or woman would have to serve
themselves. I loved the fair, although I did not like the crowds
that came along with it.
Currently, I found myself on the Street of Coins. I probably
knew the Fair-grounds as well as the streets of Port Kar or now,
Hulneth. I had a penchant for memorisation, especially that of
streets, and I could probably afford that to the Master-Slaver
Athir, who trained me and the games he would have the
slave-trainer play with me. I still recalled those too, and it
had been eons since I was that young lass. It was a bit after
mid-day and the streets were already getting crowded. Children
squawked for their parents to buy this or that, an attendant
slave would hush them diligently while the parents managed
purchases on their own, directing slaves to bring the items to a
wagon or tent, to be later loaded in a wagon for their
destination. Meanwhile, I hugged the shadows like an apparition,
moving in my quiet, stealthy, graceful way. I had learned long,
long ago that we were not seen unless we wanted to be seen and
that the tricks to successful stealth was not in the manner of
gait or by travelling at night, but using the shadows to your
advantage and remaining invisible. i had perfected remaining
invisible and it was often just enough where i could handle the
crowds of the Fair.

-- is upon the Street of Coins where Merchants extend loans and

says to ALL: The streets were also a perfect venue for
eaves-dropping. Of course, I had long since come to call it
casual observations of the Free. Much of my youth and
young-adult in my slavery had been listening to what the Free
discussed and they typically had little concern for what a slave
might overhear. We were slaves and not in a position to use this
information. Of course the Free knew of slaves, like me, who
were trained in listening, but there were no obvious signs of
such a slave, so what was a Free person to do? Ask every slave
within ear-shot if they were observing? No. That would be silly.
And so, Free took up the talk now and retaliate later type of
attitude should they find themselves on the unpleasant side of
being eaves-dropped on. This was fine for me, as it was
unlikely, even in the after event, that they would know who
precisely over-heard them. I was just a shadow, and I was good
at what I did.
There was quite a gathering in one portion of the street. A
vendor that I could not quite see, had a gathering of at least
25 or so, and my one disadvantage, at times, was my very tiny
stature. This was often an advantage, for being mistaken for a
young, green, slave, made it easier to avoid detection. However,
presently, I was at a loss as to why so many had gathered around
this one vendor and I was glancing this way and that, to see if
there was a way to get between Free, or possibly higher up, that
I might see what was going on but they were packed in like
sardines, which only made the curiosity burn that much hotter. I
frowned and was just about to turn and head back to my
Mistress’s tent when…

says to ALL: There was a chorus of laughter, preceded by a huge
poof of feathers. I could not see where it came from but saw the
feathers shoot upward into the air and then gently, find their
way to the ground. An eyebrow shot upwards, because that was the
odd sort of sight to see on the Street of Coins, which was your
typical merchant paradise. The chorus of laughter only further
impressed the idea of magician or story-teller, but again, what
were they doing on this street of all streets? Also, it was kind
of early for these shenanigans. The sun was still high overhead
and this was entertainment that was afforded a prestigious slot
of evening, where there more patrons enjoying the cooler, night
air. Now, I was determined. I wriggled my way through here and
squeezed through there; stood on tippy-toes trying to stretch
myself as far as I could to garner a peek. This might be worth
telling my Mistress about. It seemed my effort would be in vain,
unable to get a better view, even as I moved closer. Then, a
free woman with a rather padded posterior, finally moved and I
saw. A Magician with dark skin, like the men and woman of
Schendi. He was performing for the enjoyment of these patrons.
It was out of character for most performers here but I
appreciated it. I grinned wide as I saw him continue to
enrapture the crowds with a bird in a beautiful gilded cage, a
black, silk cloth and before I knew it or understood it, two
birds appeared in the cage and then three. Too soon for me, he
was finished, bowing respectively at the crowd and setting the
birds free to the oooh’s and aaaah’s of the gathering.
