says to ALL:
.I had set out from the harigga awhile ago,
inspired by Khashi's decision to go hunting on this day. The sun
was bright which aided in beating back the bit of winter chill
that lingered in the air, aided in its crispness with an
occasional gust of wind that rolled across the prairie. I sat
high atop the back of my mount, my favored sable colored kaiila
that often was my mount of choice for roaming the plains on my
own. I carried with me, or rather the saddle carried with it the
full kit of the plainsman. I had atop my head the conical helm,
lined in fur and absent of its chain mail mesh to protect my
face. My face was instead covered only by the black leather wind
scarf to protect against the wind and the dust that littered the
air. My hands were free of everything save for the reins that I
loosely held within my left hand. Upon my back was both the
domed leather round shield of the plains as well as the kaiila
lance that measured 8 feet in length. Secured to the saddle of
course was the usual 7 quiva, quiver of 40 arrows, horn bow as
well as the bola and braided leather rope. The kit of a
plainsman was that of a mobile armory of sorts, but each of the
tools were brought with the saddle to provide the warrior with
everything he might need, be it for battle, hunting or general
survival. I pushed up upon my stirrups while I observed the
plains along the stream that I followed. I had lost sight of
Khashi some time ago as we fanned out into different directions.
I was content to follow the small stream north toward the
Cartius river while I sought out something to hunt today.....

says to ALL: ...There off on the distance ahead of me I could
see there at the stream bed, a large, yet sleek wild kaiila. Its
colors was of a rich chocolate brown, it had no tack, no saddle
and from here I could make out no markings. I stood upright in
my saddle as I attempted to get a feel for the animal, was it
truly wild and untamed as I had suspected? It certainly appeared
as such. If it was wild it likely moved north for the same
reason our herd and wagons did. For warmer weather and less snow
sprinkled grass. The first task in claiming the wild kaiila was
to get close to it, that would be an ordeal in a half. I lowered
down on the stirrups as I leaned in closer to the to my own
sable kaiila. With a steady breath and tightening hands on the
reins I gave a kick of fresh spurs into the side of the beast to
send it speeding wildly along the stream. I hated riding so fast
near the stream. It wasn't deep but it was still water and I
didn't know how to swim. Men can drown in water less than 12
inches, though usually it involves someone holding them under.
Still, I pushed that from my mind as I raced toward the wild
kaiila, hoping to make up distance to it before it could really
take notice and attempt to flee from me....

says to ALL:
The sudden surge of my kaiila was enough to get us
to close the distance to a much more manageable length before
the wild kaiila raced into action. It broke free from the stream
bed which I was thankful for but it was still riding along it on
the much flatter ground off to its side. This however caused me
to guide the beast toward the stream so that in two very fast
strikes my mare was about to cross over the stream with a
splashing rain of cold stream water but we were soon enough on
the other bank to match the wild kaiila and then a moment longer
until we were up on the more level ground and closing the gap
behind the wild beauty. I had a couple of choices here, I could
go with the braided leather rope first, or I could attempt a
bola throw to try and snare the beast to hobble it for the time
being. Each one had its risks, both to the wild beast as well as
to myself. I opted for now to go for the option that presented
the least amount of risk to myself and pulled free the bola from
the ring that was secured to the leather saddle. It was only a
moment longer before my right hand had the tri weighted bola
twirling around over my head and up to full speed in its
rotations. The cast iron weights were heavy, about peach sized
and coverd in the braided leather that made up a pouch to attach
to the three leather straps that culminated together in the
grasp of my fingers. With a measured throw I let loose the bola
so that it could spin round and round through the air while I
sent the bola toward the hind legs of the wild kaiila, hoping to
slow it down....

.The luck of the blue sky was on my side today.
The bola swirled through the air like a beautiful majestic, uh,
thing that swirls through the air and managed to land
accurately. Its ten feet span of the three straps were enough to
collide with the hind legs of the wild kaiila before they began
to constrict and cinch the legs together. This brought the wild
beast to a hobbling slow as it attempted to kick free of the
bola. When the kicking was not working its rows of sharp vicious
teeth reached back, biting at the leather. I guided my sable
kaiila into a wide circle around the frantic animal, eager to
avoid being kicked or a kick to my kaiila with the clawed feet.
My right hand had already pulled free the braided leather rope
that hung from the saddle with a leather strap. I brought myself
upright into my stirrups so that my left hand could wrap the
fixed loop of the braided leather rope onto the pommel of my
saddle. My right hand however was already swirling the capture
loop part of the rope over head before casting the rope, sending
it toward the head of the wild kaila when it reared up to try
and free itself again, hoping to secure the loop around its neck
so that I could anchor the beast enough to try and get it under
control....

says to ALL:
.A sharp curse that involved invoking the use of
whores and assholes was heard, all be it slightly muffled
beneath the leather wind scarf. The throw of the rope went well
over head of the elusive kaiila. It dodged the snare attempt of
the rope and resumed its attempts to kick itself free from the
bola. The bite of the bola's wrapping or the leather itself
would not hold out forever. Sooner or later be it from frantic
kicks or sharp rows of teeth the kaiila would be free from the
bola. My hands worked quickly to draw in the braided rope so
that I could prepare for another cast of it. This time however I
charged at the wild kaiila from its front. I kept the loop of
the rope bigger this time and held out to my right side as this
time I would be attempting to pass precariously close to the
hobbled beast in an attempt to guide the rope down over its head
a bit easier than risking another wild throw from a longer
distance.....

says to ALL:
..The riskier pass with the attempt of guiding the
rope over the neck of the kaiila ended in failure just like the
previous throw. I kicked my spurs into the sides of my mount to
race us further away from the kaiila after the second miss. It
was nearly free of the bola and it would not hold much longer
and I wanted to be clear from those teeth and claws, especially
when I didn't have my shield in hand. With I raced past the wild
kaiila I worked at drawing the braided rope back up into my
hands once more, working to coil it and prepare the capture loop
end of it for another throw. By the time I wheeled my mount
around it had freed itself from my bola and had begun to kick
free and get moving again. It had an unsteady step to it. The
weights of the bola must have caused some damage to it as it was
moving more gingerly than one might expect an angry kaiila to
do. This was a moment for fight or flight instinct in the wild
animal, and this ones natural instinct was fight. This time it
came charging at me and I was prepared to meet the tilt. I
leaned into my beast, my left hand holding the reins also took
hold of the hair that ran down the back of the kaiilas neck to
even better guide it while we raced toward one another in
another game of vulo. This time I cast the coiled rope earlier
then the previous attempt and with a more narrow loop. The goal
was to have a smaller circle but a more accurate one as I
attempted to snare its neck in the tightening rope as I passed
it....

.Another curse was heard behind the wind scarf as
yet again I had been met with failure against this elusive
animal. Its time for fighting had seemingly reached a limit as
now the kaiila was riding away at full speed, as best it could
muster given its leg injury. I circled my own mount around and
recoiled the braided leather rope so that I could go chasing
after it. The kaiila had managed to pick up speed in its
attempted flight but my uninjured and well trained kaiila was
able to make up the distance with a combination of a better
angle for running it down as well as being healthy. I pulled
myself up to stand in the stirrups once more so that now both
hands could focus on the throwing of the coiled rope in what
would become my fourth attempt at getting the rope around the
neck of the kaiila. It was my hope that with my mount riding
along side of the wild animal that I'd be able to make the throw
when it wouldn't see it coming while it focused on trying to get
away from me, it might not be able to dodge the loop.....

.The blue sky has damned me since I had mocked my
brother Khashi. Ever since my arrogant gloating nothing I have
attempted has been successful against the wild kaiila. I
couldn't quit now, that simply would not be the honorable thing
to do. My bola had injured the kaiila in my attempt to subdue
it, leaving it alone and injured on the plains would only mean
it became a meal for some prowling sleens or a mighty plains
larl. No, I had started this task and now I must see it done,
one way or another. I slowed up on my mount, allowing the wild
kaiila to gain some distance away from me me. The intention was
to allow it to calm down and relax a bit as it considers itself
no longer as in pursuit, but the truth was I was merley biding
my time and coiling up the braided leather loop and adjusting
the hoop. Now however I would circle my mount wide around the
kaiila who had brought itself to a stop over the crest of the
hill ahead. It was stopped to inspect its injured leg. I had saw
no blood from the tracking so it was likely a bruise. It did not
seem lame enough to indicate a broken bone, but it likely hurt
like Sardar. My mount was guided up around the beast to be
downwind from the wild kaiila before once more I kicked my spurs
into the flanks of my beast to send us speeding toward our prey
with another capture attempt from the thrown rope....

says to ALL: ...A cheer went out behind the leather wind scarf.
The braided leather rope, made of twelve plaits of leather woven
together expertly by a clan of leather workers member. The rope
held secure and the snared beast race off but was stopped at the
end of the twenty feet of length. There was a struggle now. The
end of the rope was secured to my saddle pommel which of course
was well strapped to my own beast. The wild kaiila tried to pull
against it, even attempting at biting the leather but my mount
was good about shifting the angle, attempting to keep the rope
guiding back behind the wild kaiila to avoid the biting.
Eventually it turned into a game of tug of war, but the harder
either of the beasts pulled the only result was the constriction
of the rope around the neck of the wild kaiila. Eventually it
would have to relent to the will of my mount or risk choking
itself out. The leather was well stretched and well braided, I
had no fear that it would break during the struggle but right
now was the test of dominance, which of these kaiila would yield
to the other and I was betting on mine coming out ahead. I
pulled at the reins, attempting to guide my beast back away from
the wild kaiila, hoping the captured anial might yield and
follow along back to the camp so that more experience kaiila
trainers and breeders could see about breaking him.....

.I was relieved when the efforts to guide the
chocolate colored kaiila back toward the camp were met with
acceptance. I'd still not be interested in getting too closed to
the snared beast, but for now it was following along and that
was all that it would take to get it back closer to the wagon
camp so that those far more skilled in the handling of wild
kaiila could get out of the camp to aid in bringing it in. I
guided my mount closer to the stream bank so that my empty right
hand could slip free the 8 foot long lance from my back. With a
casual and lazy grasp on the lance I lowered it down along the
grass near the stream so that I could scoop up the bola that had
laid there from where the wild kaiila had kicked free of it.
After I fished up the bola I folded it across my lap for the
time being while I reaffixed the lance to my back once more. I
then saw to threading the end of the three straps through the
steel ring that was secured to my saddle. I picked up the pace a
bit as we crossed over the stream and headed back for the camp.
The hunt was a bit harder today but in the end it will have
rewarded me with one new kaiila to my collection of them....
