[ Combat Circle I ]
-In the sands of a combat circle which is roughly eight yards in
diameter and located between the rows of opposing stakes where
Prizes of the Love Wars stand on display.-
says to . Commander of the Stron: I moved into the center of the
circle walking in at 6'4" and weighing 210 lbs there was no helm
on my head and my chest was also bare, in my left hand I carried
a 22" round wooden buckler with a 2" metal rimming and 4" domed
metal centre boss. I held the buckler by a punch grip that
allowed me a little more handling in closer combat. I held it at
about 1" from my torso my elbow tucked in behinf it close to my
left side it would cover me from just below my chin to just
above my hip I stood in a slight right lead my left foot about
12" behind my right, my knees were bent and my weight balanced.
In my right hand I carried the gladius a short sword with 22"
double edged blade with a round cross guard a 5" ver skin
wrapped handle with a 1" round metal pommel. I stood at 10' from
you my eyes keen as I cranked the blade up over my right
shoulder my right fist about 6" from my right ear and the blade
extending back behind my head but slightly to the left. I
watched you assessing your possition looking for opportunities

Prizes of the Love Wars stand on display.-
says to Nyah's ChampionDhal al G: ...I had waited, listened and
then decided to act. Moving into the circle I would situate
myself squarely across a distance of fifteen feet from Dhal whom
I regarded, taking into consideration his stance as well as the
weapons which he would be wielding. No helm was worn and my
features stared thoughtfully across the distance at him. A
Common Round Shield of Gor was worn over my left arm, the shield
was a total of three feet in diameter and would cover me from
the shoulder to the knee after I lowered the center of balance I
maintained. Leading with the shield front I would look over its
highest rim effortlessly. A Gladius, twenty-two inches in
length, was held in my right hand, raised to shoulder height
with my elbow cocked back and the blade placed against the upper
right of the inner rim of my shield where it pointed ahead
towards Dhal. Nodding my head after I'd regarded him I assumed a
lead with my left foot at forty-five degrees of angle, the right
foot trailing behind and I would call out..."Begin!"...

says to . Commander of the Stron: that was one big assed shield
perhaps the man was afraid of getting cut and with a curt nod I
launched myself towards him closing rapidly at a run moving
towards my right hoping to get at his exposed left side and as I
reached 6' I would leap from my left foot to 2' from his leading
left only to land on my right foot twisting towards the left as
my knees bent lowering myself by a foot and bringing my left
held shield up so that it was between me and that gladius of his
yet not blocking my view while simultaneously
my right held blade would whip in a right to left swing whipping
the blade in a low diagonal strike directly at the back of his
left calf hoping to cut deep and cripple him there and then.

says to Nyah's ChampionDhal al G: ...difficult not to notice a
man running at you and leaping to one side. Dhal had come within
a close distance, leaping around to get on my left side in the
process and I would respond by planting my weight on my rear
right foot and pivoting inwards on it so that I could swing my
left side backwards and come around to face Dhal squarely once
again. My Shield, too, would angle back over to my left side and
sweep downwards in the process with the intent that I would
catch the diagonal blow of Dhal's blade and send it wide back
out to my left in the process...
...my left side continued to sweep backwards then too, I would
place myself into a right sided lead at forty-five degrees and
lift my right elbow in the process so that it rose above my
right shoulder. Then I would jab the Gladius ahead in a quick in
and out at a downwards angle aiming to come over the upper most
rim of Dhal's buckler and stab him cleanly in the center of his
face seeing as how he had lowered by a foot previously....

with me lowering my stance I knew that I was placing myself in a
precarious position hence my buckler was placed beween myself
and that wicked blade, I had also ensured that now by a slight
body twist we were squared off the buckler had remained at 1'
from my torso and as you drew back on your left I would lift the
buckler up keeping it between the blade while tilting the upper
rimming back so that your blade would catch the surface of the
buckler or at best scrape over the top and above my head
it was now that I would whip my right held gladius from the low
right (MPOV) while simultaneously straighting my legs and
whipping the blade across the front of your shield and up under
your extended right arm hoping to draw the blade across the
underside of your extended forearm and disable your right arm

my left side drawn back as I took stance. My Shield had angled
back over to my left side previously in its defense and now
pushing off my rear left foot I would lunge ahead completely
across what I considered a meager two-three feet of distance
total. Thrusting my left arm forward I would drive the inner rim
of my shield, drawn ahead thanks to the angle of the shield back
to my left, forwards towards Dhal as he began to whip his sword
between us hoping to either drive the rim of my shield into his
right forearm mid motion and incapacitate his arm while rushing
towards him or to drive further in the process and send my
shields rim into the right side of his chest so that I could
crack his ribs with the blow before his blade came around to
taste the underside of my right arm...

had been exposed that that all there was a do or die CA to be
executed my shins had been injured in the previous fight but
there was no time to cry and having twisted my torso to the left
your right I was already moving in that direction muscles in my
calves recoiling and propelling me instinctively to the left
(MPOV) as you were about to step forward jumping to 2" on your
right side hopefully past that rimming of your shield getting to
the inside right my left of your shield but to your right, your
arm was still extended out and simultaneously
as I moved to my left my blade would be whipping from a shoulder
height left across to the right in a quick vicious backhander as
my torso twisted hard and fast to my right with shoulder and
elbow adding power and speed to the strike directly at your
right rib cage hopefully to wound you there

had angled in hopes of causing my Gladius to skip overhead, I
would recoil the blade to shoulder height regardless. My right
elbow was at height with my shoulder, I cocked it higher and
dipped my gladius vertically so that it came down at an angle
until the tip was at height with my right hip. As I did this I
was coming out my lunge and planting my left foot I would pivot
inwardly on it so that my right side would swing round, back
behind the left and I'd come around to square with Dhal's right
side (?). My Gladius, too, would fan out to my right as I went
to pivot hoping that it would catch the outside of Dhals's
backhanded blade and sweep it wide and to my right in the
process...
...my pivot on the left foot would bring my around in what I
assumed was either square with Dhal's right side or offset to it
at roughly three feet. As I came around thus I would swing my
Shield inwards from my left across to the right alongside an
extension of the left arm as I sent the inner most rim of the
shield to hammer against the backside of Dhal's right
shoulderblade...

Counter - Not a huge fan of this defense. You're already rising
upward from your previous crouch, so now while mid rise, which
is when Cimber is striking, you're transitioning into rising but
then also into a jump to your left, so you can go 2" to Cimber's
right? 2 inches isn't that much and considering Cimber is
pushing forward during his CA, he'd certainly still be able to
make contact. As I see it, Cimber's shield rim would be making
contact with you while you're in mid air. This gets really
tricky due in part to I think it's not unreasonable to think
that a charging shield rim bash into a target who has left his
feet is possible you'd just end up knocked on your ass and more
or less at Cimber's mercy. We'll let that potential detail
slide, possible as a tie breaker if needed. -1.
Reaction - I don't like the wording of this attack. it's kind of
in a vague backposting territory with the implication that you
are attacking during your own counter. Is your "As I moved to my
left" a new move post jump, or is that talking about the jump to
your left itself? I"m left to assume it means the jump to the
left. -1.

Counter - This works, classic parry here.
Reaction - Seems moderately risky to do given his sword could
slip the parry and come back at your exposed torso/arm but it's
clean. Oh, this is the last attack. Never mind. I'm tired. It's
almost 6AM

---Scoring.---

Dhal: 8 points - Sore forearm/rightside chest from a shield

Winner = Cimber
Comments: Pretty good spar. Recovering from the counter attack
is what turned this spar on its head from a pretty even
stalemate as far as I can tell. It wasn't the deadliest of
counter attacks, but it does fit the bill of being able to
strike the opponent before their attack lands. Dhal you did
well, one of your better spars that I've seen as of late. You
stood toe to toe with Cimber quite well until the mild faltering
of the CA. Limiting Cimber to very mild and not so damaging
attacks is a pretty good sign that you were doing well.
