       Egypt's reply

       1. Who has the right to possess the land of Israel and
       Palestine? Explain using historical/cultural/political reasoning
that reflect your country's position and beliefs.
Elson- Egypt believes that Palestine has the right to possess
the land. Israel's argument of "the Promised Land" that was
given unto them by God is not a logical argument for the rest of
the world, especially for the Arab nations as we do not have the
same religion (albeit Allah and God are one in the same). Such
ideological and theocracy are not arguments that allow them to
claim they have control in such a land. Although the British
Empire was in control of Palestine after World War 2, and it was
the British who allowed the Allies to put the Jewish population
into Palestine, that does not give them the right to claim all
the whole territory as Israel. Conflicts arise in the Middle
East because of the Jewish presence in the midst of many Arab
       nations.
       3. What is your country's position regarding Iran's nuclear
program? How should the program be addressed?
Elson- As an ally of the Iran, we strongly approve of such a
program. Similar to the United States, Iran is like the "nuclear
umbrella" of the Middle East. If they have the program, they
will strongly support the rest of it's allies with nuclear
programs the same way the United States provides nuclear
programs to its strong and important allies. Although this
program is a great idea, it must be addressed that Iran will
most certainly not use it's nuclear program the same way Israel
uses it's nuclear arsenal; Israel uses their nuclear program to
protect themselves from us and the rest of the Arab nations but
there are no guarantees that Iran would not use it's nuclear
program to develop weapons of mass destruction, as Israel is
seen as an enemy to both us and the rest of the Arab nations.

Chris - 2. Should the international community recognize the
statehood of Palestine? Justify your response.
Of course, the international community should recognize the
statehood of Palestine. Egypt has represented and recognized
Palestine since 1964. We, Egypt, as a nation have helped to
establish the Palestine Liberation Organization or PLO as it is
commonly referred. It is very much part of the Middle East, and
needs to be a state. Over 100 nations recognized Palestine as a
state during the First Intifada, however, even the Palestinian
Declaration of Independence did not lead the nation into
statehood. Palestine was partitioned for the Israeli, how is it
that Israel has gained the status of statehood while Palestine
has not, it is ridiculous. In addition, if Palestine were to
gain the status of statehood, it can manage its internal
governmental structures far more efficiently. It can control the
situation with Hamas and take control of its internal affairs.
