Susan, we are getting more and more into permaculture. I don't
have my earthen garden started yet for the spring but my compost
beds are ready. Travis built me 2 4x16 beds last year. They
feed us and the chickens. Travis built a chicken-wire EXclosure
so I could keep the girls out of a section I didn't want them
terrorizing! I have learned to be careful when turning the
compost pile because the girls will follow my shovel and snatch
up any worm that happens to wiggle in their wake. What would
life be like without Chicken TV? LOL!

That's awesome, Kathy! I haven't solved the compost turning
dilemma yet. Anytime my girls see me with the garden fork or
shovel, they follow me everywhere. I have them fenced out of the
garden, for summer, but my compost bin is wide open. It's the
kind that you lift off and place in a different spot, then fill
it up again. As soon as I lift it off, the chickadees are right
there spreading my beautiful compost. I have to come up with a
solution!! I guess I could move the compost bin into the fenced
off garden area. It might take 2 of us: one to relocate compost
and one to herd chickens away! LOL

       Susan,
It was a pleasure meeting you and Henrie at the meeting. Sorry
we didn't get a chance to visit more. We will look forward to
       the next opportunity! :)
       Travis :)

Thanks Travis, Henrie and I are likewise happy to have met you
and Kathy. I apologize for being so distracted. Next month, we
can get there earlier since we won't have another meeting just
prior. I'm happy we are learning so much about our chickadees.
Angela has been a huge help. We have started our next level of
learning with the hatching eggs so kindly provided by Leah. I
didn't think I was ready for the commitment, but am super
excited now. We are looking forward to more chicken adventures!
       Susan

Fantastic! Just remember that chicken math is real....and it is
a problem. But...we have a support group for that! :)

That would open up an endless supply of names! Have you set
       your eggs yet?

No. I bought an incubator at TSC yesterday on the way home.
Before I opened it, I went online and read the reviews. It
failed! Temp spikes and unreliable humidity. I ordered one on
Amazon that had great reviews. If it doesn't get here in the
next day or so, I'll go to TSC and get the cheaper model to hold
me over for a couple of days. Didn't you say that the brooder
table is better than the light? I think I like that idea
better. I don't remember everything you said at that meeting
because.... hello! I wasn't planning on getting chicks. Well, I
didn't get chicks, did I? LOL
