Hi, I am Karen Strickland, board member and admin on this forum.
I am learning along with everyone else. I will make mistakes and
hopefully learn not to do that again.
       My flock consists
of many breeds,1 or 2 of each.
I have a mixed bag of layers and several roosters.
I have silkies, frizzles and the resulting sizzles.
I also have naked neck Turkins and mixes of Turkins and frizzles
       that I call Tizzles.
       Welcome to my coop!!

Excuse me if I gush a little about you Karen but I would like
for everyone to know the Karen I know. The Karen who is always
ready to help everyone out at a moment's notice with advice from
candling eggs with a cell phone to offering to share your
Valbazen with anyone who needs it. You have the biggest heart
and it meant the world to me when you came and sat with me
during my husband's surgery. Now, that I probably have
thoroughly embarrassed you I will stop gushing. ;D We love you
       Karen!

Hi. Though I have moved and no longer have my chickens. I enjoy
all the photo's of your chickens and chicken talk. When I do get
back to mobile area. I go to my old home, and encourage the New
owner to get chickens. Have tried talking them into joining the
club. Will work on them again the next time I am in town. My
Favorite Breed was the Orpingtons. I had Gold laced, Lavender,
Buff Orpingtons. I also had an Americauna, Saggitta( which is a
dual purpose bird. Both great layers and Meat Birds. They do
grow quickly but don't suffer such fast growth that they can't
walk or maneuver easily. Very sweet Chickens to be sure. I also
had Ducks, Muscovy, Swedish, Pekin, Rouen, and Runner Ducks. I
also raised and Hatched many Guinea's. When we moved on our
property, we had so many ticks. The following year after we sent
the Guinea's loose to free range, we never found a guinea on us
when walking our property. Guinea's aren't for everyone. They
are noisy to be sure. I found their noise a compfort. No one
could get near our property with out the Guinea's sounding the
alarm, and heading to where they either spotted, 2 leg intruder,
4 legged, or something that slithered. Eventually, when the time
is right I am hoping to once again have a few chickens. I loved
my birds, but really enjoyed the incubating of the eggs the
best. Nothing sweeter than a newly hatching Chick, Keet or
duckling. Might be my only post as I am not to savvy on this
forum. I love photography and I know all those programs on my
computer. But since Windows 10, I am only moderately successful
getting my email. And I have no desire to learn about PFD or
whatever they call these files everyone wants me to open to
       read.

Hi Evelynn! Thank you so much for sharing with us. I remember
your Gold Laced Orpingtons, you got your first group right
before I got mine. We will always be Gold Laced Orpington
Sisters. :) Hope everyone is doing well and in good health.

       Lynn,
I wish we could have guineas in the City...but they are too
noisy, etc. Many times they are better than a watchdog! :) We
do miss you having chickens...maybe one day you will "come
       home!" :)
In regards to computer, programs and such... I have used a
computer for many years. I remember when the internet was very
limited, no email, no pictures, no videos, just data (written
stuff...mostly provided by the government). There were no
forums or endless websites and Facebook didn't exist. Over the
years, I have had to learn and relearn as things changed...none
of that is as easy as it was a few years ago (could be an age
       related issue for me!) :) I use Facebook...but I have reached a
point where I do not like the invasive and addictive nature of
Facebook. While I still use FB, a little, I have weaned
myself away from it (that was harder than giving up chocolate!)
       LOL.
That said...I personally prefer a forum (like this) over a
Facebook group. Why? ...because it allows more autonomy and
topics can be broken down into different pages or groups to keep
similar topics together. It also allows us to regulate the
content...we can even, legally, sell chickens here! :) Is it
different (compared to Facebook)?...yes. But, the best way to
work the forum is just to post, experiment, plunder and look
around. It is a great tool and just like you had to learn the
photo programs on your computer, it won't take long you will
feel right at home using the forum.
OK...I'm just rambling on this morning! I may need to check and
see what Kathy has added to my coffee! Hope you have an amazing
day...and I am glad to see you here and using our Forum. Please
call on me if I can help you in any way! Thanks! :)
       Travis :)

       Hi Karen :D
I appreciate all of you and your hard work to create a
community that allows all of us to help each other and learn and
grow raising these babies. Thank you for you kind words for me
and help through my own process I am learning as fast as I
can... I am sure our chickens are thankful HA!!!
       Happy Hatching
