Saw the tour at Bham LG Arena last night, 19th Feb, at 7.30pm.
Really good. Everyone was good (even Wagner tried hard in his
own way). Show began with Cher, who came across suprisingly
well. Then Paige came on, who has a good voice. Then Katie did
Help and Aiden did Diamonds are Forever. Note to Aiden, it is
rude to the audience to chew gum whilst you are singing. Then
Mary did a song and look relaxed and happy. Wagner did a song
with bongos!!!! and Cher came back on for a second track.
Rebecca came on to a great applause and did a disco song and One
Direction finished the first half with Only Girl in the World
and a couple of other songs. They got a great reception from the
crowd and went down well. Lots of girls in the audience loved
       them.
So a good first half all in all and very enjoyable. The LG
Arena, which is huge, was 95% full so the tickets had sold well.
There was a good atmosphere and everyone was having fun.
Rebecca started the second half and then Mary, Wagner, Katie,
Cher, Paige and Aiden did a few more tracks. Katie did the
Jungle Book song and Cher did Stay. Aiden did a good rendition
of the Tears for Fears song, Mad World. Rebecca did Dreamer,
which would have been her single if she won. Then One D back on
to do Forever Young, which would have been their winning single,
and did a good rendition of it, especially the second half of
the song. One D are very likeable and I am happy for their
success. Rebecca had strong vocals but my problem with her has
always been that I can't listen to her for too long without it
become a bit 'samey' and shrill. She is talented though and
looked lovely. I like her in small doses so it was good that she
came on a few times rather than did a block of songs.
Then the main event. The crowd went totally wild when Matt was
announced. He appeared in white shirt and cream chinos and began
with an upbeat Firework. The crowd loved it. It was great to
hear him sing this without a throat infection, and he was note
perfect. It was lively and fun. It got great applause. Then his
guitar came on and he did the lovely Nights in White Satin which
is a song he said he loved. He jokes that previously he would
play to 5 people, with three not listening!! As ever he came
across as a nice bloke with a self depricating sense of humour.
Then he sang an amazing version of Just the Way You Are. A
platform of stairs carried him across the audience to a smaller
stage as he sang and again he was note perfect. At the end, ever
the perfectionist, he said 'I could have done that better', but
the crowd disagreed and he was just being modest, because the
version was amazing and the audience loved it. His vocal range
was awesome and he really belted out the notes, and got to his
High C without a problem. Then a tender First Time Ever I Saw
Your Face on the smaller stage, which the crowd adored and sang
along to. Then guitar back on for When We Collide. He showed
real star quality and thanked the audience for voting for him
and making the song the Xmas no. 1. He was gracious and polite
and thankful. He came across well. He has real star quality. He
was right to be the headline act as he was the star turn there
as he can play guitar and sing amazing vocals. The others were
good but he was the big star and deservedly so. Talent will out
in the end. Rebecca is good but Matt is better in terms of
getting the audience engaged and excited. They all came on for a
final medley of Heroes. It was a brilliant night out and well
done to them all, especially Matt, who is destined to be super
star just on talent. A voice like that does not come along
often. He looked hot too, but we never got to see his vest.
Indeed his block of songs meant he did not get a costume change
at all but he looked fine in white shirt and chinos. MATT CARDLE
IS A SUPER STAR. Lots of audience buying up Matt and One D
merchandise, so they seemed to be the two big money spinners in
terms of the merchandising. Tour programme looks good, at £10,
it has some amazing shots of Matt in it looking very handsome
indeed. A real man at 27, not just a pretty teenage boy. He
certainly had lots of female fans. However, the men like Matt
too because he gets his guitar out and gives it some welly.
       Brill Matt, well done.
