i'll start out the region discussions.....
TWO teams in the Mid have BURNT/CRUSHED/BAKED me over the years,
and i'm having trouble getting on their respective bandwagons
this year... and, of course, they happen to be two of the top
4 seeds... yup, Virginia and Iowa St, both have cost me $$ in
these pools...
i have no problem tossing Iowa St this time around... no way a
team that flies around at the pace they do will be around at the
end....
i AM having a problem with Virginia however.... i WILL have
Mich-St winning the bracket, but can i possibly get someone to
be VIRG for me before they get to the bracket Final??
leaning towards Purdue, so PLEASE sell me on their chances to
bake Virginia.....

Virginia ranks in the 200th on offense. To my knowledge (except
for North Carolina of 2009) that a team that either rank in the
200th on offense or defense gets by the sweet sixteen. There is
an 8 Texas Tech vs. 9 Butler matchup and I want to know if
Butler has the capability of beating Virginia. If not, Purdue is
your choice, they swept Wisconsin, and Wisconsin utilize the
pack-line defense (Dick Bennett used it, Bo Ryan used it, and
now the new coach is using it too).

Can't sell you on Purdue because their transition game is just
as bad as Virginia's but I'd take Iona/ISU over both of those
teams. They can both get behind those slow transition defenses
before they set and sneak into the next round.

Hard to not like MSU in this region.
Would really like to see UVA get to the elite 8, but for some
reason, just wonder if Bennett is one of those good coaches that
just can't get over the hump...snake bitten.

I was a fan of Utah before I saw the bracket. I watched Oregon
dismantle Utah and Seton Halls last 3 games and I'd have to say
Hall is the real deal. Their frenetic style of play (similar to
Oregon) is just what Utah doesn't want to see.

For those wondering, Iowa State meets upset/pretender/loser
criteria on every single PDF I've used. Iona meets the criteria
to beat them on all but one of the four. Plus, ISU doesn't
defend, this is Iona's best defense in the Cluess era (faint
praise), their best interior defense in a decade...you get the
point. I like the Gaels this year. Maybe even for a Sweet 16
run, though I won't pick it.

Also, one of my favorite articles each year is up:
HTML http://www.wsj.com/articles/march-madness-the-most-likely-first-round-upsets-1458053332?mg=id-wsj
This guy's model is typically pretty strong (though he did miss
on Valpo last year) - has predicted nearly half of the upsets
and his over 50% picks from 2011-2015 are 10-3. This year's over
50%ers include Fresno State, which makes me thankful that I was
taking Utah out in the second round no matter what.

This looks like a Big Ten region with Michigan St and Purdue
looking like best chance to make F4. It really looks like
Michigan St region with a little Purdue or Virginia sprinkled
in. It is tough advance Virginia too far because of all the bad
past history. Which helps Purdue become a F4 candidate in this
region. Could Gonzaga make another run as an underdog higher
seed? Gonzaga could make a deep run and throw a wrench into
Michigan St F4 hopes.
