Tips on giving and receiving reviews
By: Lumaria Date: September 29, 2015, 7:32 am

Once again, Manga Mavericks likes to remind those that anyone
can use their own form of giving reviews if one feels its best
way to help a member. Not everyone is built the same way and
welcome all forms of reviews. However, there will be times that
can be step on certain toes. Here are some tips on how to give
and accept reviews.
NOTE: These are just universal tips that is here for the entire
forum to see and to make use of. It is not to be enforced.
Although it is highly recommended to look into it and take as
much of the advice as possible.
Receiving reviews
#1) Don't expect someone to tell you "how" to fix something in
your story. A review is not by any means on how to fix, or how
to apply it. the freedom to use that review in any by the one
receiving. If you are one that is receiving and only points out
the faults, try to use that and find a way to fix it on your
own.
#2) If you need more additional help or elaboration, do not be
afraid to ask. Often times reviews can be detailed about how
certain things are flawed or need improvement and other times
they start off very basic and not detailed. If you need further
details, then dont be afraid to ask.
#3) Don't expect too much out of the first review. Often times
those expect that they will be able to fix it all with just one
review, it may take several reviews to see the bigger flaws or
mistakes.
#4) Don't get discouraged. If you receive too many negative
reviews, don't let that get in your way of improving. Try to
take all the negative reviews as a sign of people looking into
your work deeply and see a way to improve.
Giving Reviews
#1) Know that the receiving member (despite this page existing
to help members) may retaliate completely. If one does
retaliate, try giving more evidence on why your review is the
way it is based on what you can point out. Not everyone can
handle reviews
#2) If you can, try to find something that you can point out
about the story. Often times, it could be the concept itself or
potential. Often times those receiving need to hear something
positive every now and then about their work.
#3) Try not to morph the story onto your own interests.
Reviewing is all about enhancing the creators work. This isn't a
common mistake, but it happens enough to mention about it.

This was actually based on Lumaria's idea. We wanted to make it
a universal guideline that the moderators and members can look
at first before anything else. But i moved it anyways.
We are currently discussion a "heat system" where if members
can't handle criticism well, they would be marked for it. Even
if they don't like the heat level. The idea is so that members
can give and receive critique/reviews without any problems or
misunderstandings.
But its still in the works. Nothing concrete.

The universal guidelines if you ask me would be to be nice &
civil to other people , respect peoples opinions/thoughts in
general & agree to disagree & walk away is the polite form of
disagreement . This however , is more specific , so yeah ...
Also , I've posted my thoughts on the heat system in it's thread
.

I realize they we're pretty specific but it's something people
don't really take into consideration when fixing the problems
they create.
