Lunacy may get an overhaul
By: Lumaria Date: January 1, 2016, 5:33 pm

So i have a group in real life that we like to discuss Josei
manga. We tend to be not-so-critical when it comes to them just
because of the nature of what the stories are about. Recently
josei has moved to more seinen areas, but thy still have their
subtle charms of what makes josei a "josei" manga.
Anyways, my group have read Lunacy before, and this is the only
time they become critical. They all agree that its so split
evenly with Josei and Seinen genre. When i tell them my original
intentions, they clearly see where i was going for: A strong
Josei manga. However, they also reason why it can't be a mix of
both.
I'll explain how Lunacy started becoming something else. I
originally posted this story in OneMangaForums and then later in
MangaRaiders. Both sides did not give me the freedom to make it
a +18 story. You see Lunacy had a more unique language. For
example: when you compare Star Wars Original Trilogy and the
Prequel Trilogy, you notice that the language they both use is
completely different. Prequel Trilogy (as horrendous as they
were) were trying for a more unique dialogue and word choice
that was unique to the universe.
When i started to censor the story, people sort of pointed out
the odd-dialogue and wanted a more easy to understand dialogue
that shonen had. It was mixed in with the more critical reviews
of pacing and lack of supporting materials.Lunacy doesn't have
that subtle flow anymore. It doesn't rely on its dialogue and
because of that, the story had to be told far more directly
(making it much more closer to shonen).
Original Design:
Lunacy was about a r@pe-victim (Noche) who was saved by his new
best friend (Sebastian). Noche was going to have an open
bromance with several male characters but would be overpowered
by female characters that indirectly feed trauma to him. In the
beginning, he would still have romantic feelings for his old
childhood friend (Lucia) but would discover a dark dark secret
that would turn him against her. As for Lunatics, they were
going to be far more sexually active. With Krema being bi-sexual
and at times attempt to seduce Noche but would fail miserably
and hurt Noche in the process.
It was going to be a story where supernatural events caused
Noche to face his demons alongside the other more direct issues
that come with the story. Noche would often border on
homosexuality, and have a more complicated relationship with
Sebastian. Alexis still exist in the original story but had a
less important role.
Don't get me wrong, its a lot better in terms of pacing, and
most of the chapters might remain exactly the same. but its also
a story that lost its soul along the way. My question to you all
who have read Lunacy: Would you prefer the manga story to be a
"seinen" or a "josei" manga?

Well the benefit here is that you have the option to go to [+18]
here.
I definitely read some of it. I remember reading a horror based
josei not too long ago either. So it might not be too far off
of. You could mix your ideas with more extreme ideas.
I know Uzumaki was fairly popular among older women despite not
being a josei manga. I believe Liar Game was also josei and had
interesting dark ideas.
I might be wrong though, so don't trust me too much

Actually Liar Game is also seinen, but considering that it was
adapted into live action TV dramas, it wouldn't get passed it.
Its also something worth noting that my group have also
discussed how josei is becoming less and less unknown to general
fans because there's not that many magazines circulating.
But whats interesting to note that some shojo, seinen, and even
shonen manga become a big hit with older women. We're still
discussing why that is but we deduced that thriller, drama, and
well drawn males seem to be the big attributes.
But enough of that You're right. This forum is giving me the
freedom to write it the way i originally intended. But
unfortunately i sort of lost my way with it when i had reviews.
I am thinking about revising the chapters.
I definitely don't want Noche to have homosexual tendencies
anymore, simply because it just doesn't fit with the new theme.
I want the old "Lucia" back, and i definitely want to include
more Sebastian. I'm going to revise my chapters one more time.
See how it goes.
