       Netflix original series
By: Lumaria Date: August 30, 2016, 11:30 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have recently been watching a lot of Netflix. After finishing
a few Netflix originals, I decided to give a review on what I
saw because I noticed a particular pattern with Netflix
originals. Of course everyone else is able to give their own
opinion/review. I'll start off with the live action series and
then end it with the anime.
       Daredevil:
I don't read comics a lot but I was curious about this one since
it did receive a lot of praise. After watching it myself I was
impressed. It was almost as if every superhero character should
be have a TV series produced by netflix. But the problem is that
the characters quickly store trying to feel real and push to the
comic archetypes and not evolve. One particular character I
absolutely hate is Karen Page. She becomes a character I didn't
mind to someone I absolutely detest. Something Daredevil does is
make you think they are making progress when they were really
       just wasting time.
       Stranger Things:
What is there to say about this one that others haven't already?
It's true that it is very reminiscent of an 80s film, but it
does it better. Not one character is a complete stereotype and
as slow or impossible the story feels to progress, the depth of
these characters and proving that they are more than what first
appears helps the story move forward. I personally enjoyed it
and was upset how short it was. Only 8 episodes but considering
how long they are, it can be considered 16 episodes (which makes
me wish there was at least 12 instead of 8)
       Kuromukuro:
This one requires a more detailed explanation. Sets in the near
future, the female protagonist gets involved in an alien
invasion. An ancient artifact revealed to be technology that
encased a man from the ego period and managed to make her
co-pilot to face the aliens. It reminds me a lot of the older
anime when some artifact activates at the right time and sub
       character would somehow get involved.
However, a bigger plot involved that hints and then answers in
the next episode but also a bigger mystery on who this man
really is and why the aliens are attacking. It was very slow,
practically nothing happened. It ended in a cliffhanger of
course that will win over my curiosity so I will see season 2
       once it comes out.
What they all have in common:
The benefit of Netflix producing these is that they are high
quality and the episodes are usually around an hour long. The
biggest problem is the episodes are in bulks, they don't come
out a week at a time or so. The writing is usually good for the
first few episodes but some episodes I really hate and some
episodes I really enjoy. I noticed when I was watching Daredevil
how the story was going nowhere and then suddenly in the last
few episodes it escalates until it reaches the end. But as I
watched Stranger things and Kuromukuro, they both do the same
       thing.
It's almost as if Netflix promised the production team funding
for more episodes and then suddenly cutting it short. Although
Stranger Things had a better pace than the other two, it also
ended very quickly. Which is a shame.
Have any of you seen these series? If so, do you think I'm on
       point?

I saw Daredevil and I agree. First season felt so abrupt that I
       stopped watching it.
I haven't seen Stranger Things yet but I hear it's on of the
       best ones.
I saw Kuromukuro but didn't interest me too much.

I just recently finished two more anime being labeled as Netflix
originals. These two anime despite being Netflix originals don't
fall under the same pitfalls of the previous series. They are
roughly twenty minutes, still pacing issues but it stabilizes
       eventually.
       Ajin
I remember this manga. The 3d cell shaded look doesn't work well
at all. I think the manga looks better. But it's really faithful
to the manga. The only gripe I have is the horrible effects with
the opening and ending. It looks like it's made by one college
student rather a whole production team. Of course it ended right
when it was getting good so that was disapointing. I hope season
       2 begins soon.
       Knights of Sidonia
I have a lot of hate with how the manga ended. So many things
were forced. But I'm glad the anime ended where it did. Although
it doesn't justify the story and where it went. If they do make
another season, I hope they choose a different ending than the
       manga.

       An Update on Kuromukuro
After Season 2, things moved a little faster. But I would say
the pacing is still off. There are moments when they are wasting
times and then moments when the story takes another turn.
It's worth watching now even with the cliches. The moe-ness of
most female characters is a bit apparent. Hardly any female
character doesn't follow any moe characteristics.
There is one particular character who is from the US who acts
like a typical G.I. Joe stereotype. At first i thought it was
just because of him. But now when irrelevant characters that are
confirmed to being Americans to, they also get called out to
being rude, and even then for something so small.
It just seems like this series runs on cliches and stereotyoes.
It's still entertaining and watchable, but you're not going to
       find a lot of originality.

I might pick up kuromukuro. But I just don't use Netflix for
       anime. I prefer crunchyroll.

Yeah I prefer crunchyroll too but I haven't renewed my
subscription, so I'm behind in the times.

So ... what is Netflix , by the way ? I've never had one here
but I keep hearing it while prowling the net . Is it like ...
       Crunchyroll , in a way ?

It's like crunchyroll or Hulu. You pay 10$ a month for movies
and Original series. Some old series too like fairy trail and
       hunter x hunter.

What Orchid said. Netflix also has physical DVD mailed to you
but they don't charge extra or so I was told. I think it's a
separate subscription for the mail order.

       Ajin (season 2)
So Ajin season 2 came out recently. Binge watched it as well.
This season is far better. Not only are the characters making
steps forward but they make actual progress.
There are times when a few characters are just way too stupid to
even exist but most of the characters are smart.
With that said, just like Tokyo Ghoul, it doesn't feel like
season 2. Feels like the second half of the first season, even
the story seems to suggest it.
Unlike Knights of Sidonia, I do prefer this series to have a
third season. The 3d cell shaded still bothers me but I can
       ignore it some times.
