       Finally, I want to refer to the West and the question of regime
       change . You recently wrote that although Western leaders will
       not let Russia win the war, they do not necessarily want Russian
       regime change .10. This seems to run counter to the dominant
       narrative in the West, and even on the Western left, that behind
       US motives in Ukraine is to weaken Russia and promote some kind
       of regime change. Why do you think they are not interested in

       means simply changing the name of the
       president, then that is exactly what the West wants. They
       definitely want Putin to resign because Putin went too far,
       because he is toxic and, to some extent, crazy or at least
       unpredictable and dangerous. So they want to get rid of it.

       But do they want Russia to become a democratic and open society,
       dominated by people who are not corrupt and who care about the
       social and economic development of the country? I really doubt
       it. What they want is a kind of Putinism without Putin. They may
       also want some minor cosmetic changes, such as placing certain
       liberal economists in the government, although, it must be said,
       the government is already dominated by neoliberal economists.
       All of these economists, inside and outside the government,
       share the same point of view and the same approach to economics.
       They all share the same idea that Russia is integrated into the
       world economy as a seller of raw materials and energy and,
       therefore, becomes increasingly dependent on Western markets.
