Chapter4: Part of Your World SubChap: MT
By: ToraB Date: May 4, 2014, 1:50 pm

They walked a good couple yards away, trudging through some mean
bushes and low hanging branches. They had to stop several times
so Mathias could help unhook Tino on the trees. On their way to
the place Tino told him about Mathias whispered to him, as to
not startle any creature should they happen upon one.
"Looks like you guys got enough to make a lot of powder. That's
       great. "

Tino smiled, tail wagging minutely in excitement.
"Yes! Emil is amazing when it comes to catching Fae. I don't
know why he's so much better at it than me, but he brings wings
back by the handful!" He laughed, trying to keep his tittering
       voice down too.

"Yeah with a amount like that the four of us should be set for a
while." At least he hoped. There was no telling the future but
with him extra careful about leading a herd, he was hell bent
nothing would happen to his family, whether they thought of him
the same way or not. In due time they will.
Still the smell on Tino was starting to get to him. With just
the two of them it was even more noticeable now.
"So Tino, what's your story? Lukas told me you sort of just fell
into the herd, but what was life before that?"

It was a peculiar question, but Tino wasn't one to pass up an
       opportunity to make conversation.
"My parents abandoned me at a young age. I was very small, and
had trouble keeping up with them, so they decided they'd just
leave me and try again with a new baby. I woke up one morning to
find myself alone, and I lost their trail at a river." He began.
"I'm sort of similar to Emil in the regard that a herd of moose
found me crying alone in the forest." He said, smiling wryly.
"They tried to ignore me at first, seeing as I was tiny and not
even the same species, but apparently I was too cute for them to
leave." He laughed. "They took me along, and raised me as one of
their own. They let me stay until I first started growing
antlers, then I had to go. That's when I found Lukas." He
       finished.

"Moose? Those guys are huge. . . I'm sorry to hear about your
parents. That's a terrible thing to do. You're supposed to raise
them, not ditch your child. I hope to have a little tike one
day. What was it like raising Emil?"
Moose crossed his herd one day. There were few of them but huge
and very quiet. Too quiet. Almost like they were silently
       judging you and communicated telepathically.

       Tino nodded.
"They're big, yes, but they're gentle giants, believe it or not.
I've never met a moose that was anything but pleasant." He
crooned. And it wasn't a lie. Berwald was no exception.
"And it was fun. I was always jealous though, because he clearly
likes Lukas more than me. That's only fair though, since Lukas
is the one that found him and took him in. He came to me when he
wanted to play though, which was perfect for me. I was still
young at that point, just barely too old to play myself." He
       laughed.

Mathias huffed at what Tino said about Moose.
"I think they're snobs. They way the just silently look down at
you with their tall bodies and thick racks and just stare . . ."
He didn't know what much else to say. He just never got a good
feeling from Moose before and would rather not deal with them,
even if Tino grew up in their herds before this one. They
probably just kicked Tino out because he was too cheery and
       nice.
"I mean, it's great they took you in and stuff but personally
I've never took kindly to their different ways. Too quiet to
       completely trust."

       Tino smiled awkwardly.
"They don't really know any better. I mean, if you're raised by
quiet parents, chances are that you'll be pretty quiet yourself.
I was very shy before I left. I'm still shy, but like... I
didn't talk much until I started living with Lu." He explained.
"That's just all that they've ever known. They don't mean to
stare either. They're just... Well, I don't really know how to
put it. But they're actually very sweet for such huge
       creatures." He finished.

Tora: "Eh. I'll believe when I see it. But I won't lie to you,
I'm hoping that'll be never." He said flatly, done having this
       conversation.
They continued walking, keeping their steps light as they walked
and searched for game. It wasn't too long until a gray rabbit
crossed their path and it was stopped quickly with an arrow. In
that instance it scared ground hog hiding under a bush which
Mathias was quick to kill. He almost missed, hurting his pride
       slightly.
"Nice shot Ti." He complimented as they went to grab their
       catch.
Riya: Mathias seemed to have some sort of vendetta against
Moose. That wasn't good for Berwald's case at all. But hopefully
the new leader could be convinced.
He took the compliment with a smile.
"I'm the best shot in the herd." He said proudly, shouldering
the bow again. "I've been practicing a long time." He added
       conversationally.
Tora: "Should take you hunting with me more often then. I'd get
this done a lot faster." He tied up the big rodent and saw Tino
was waiting on him. Throwing it over his shoulder they went on a
little further into the woods. The trees were closer together
and with the sun already on it's way down it was growing dark
faster. Mathias wasn't scared, but he did appreciate the company
and liked talking to the reindeer. But inside he really craved
Lukas. The high-strong Elk was so short and mean to him but
that's what Mathias liked. That feisty temper kept him on his
       toes and was very entertaining.
"So, uh. . . . Is Lukas any good at hunting?"
Riya: Tino smiled wryly, turning a knowing look on the Caribou.
"He's pretty terrible at this sort of hunting." He admitted.
"But he's amazing with trapping. His traps keep us fed in the
       winter." He added.
"But that's not really what you're thinking about, is it?" He
       wondered coyly.
Tora: Mathias raised his eyebrow at the other, unsure if he
could see his expression or not.
"What do you mean?" He inquired the shorter.
Riya: "I may not be the brightest of the group, but I'm not a
fool either. I know what you two got up to this afternoon." He
mused, pulling an arrow out and setting up, taking aim at a bird
       perched precariously close.
"It isn't my business," he continued, closing an eye to take
aim. "But I would recommend trying to keep it from Emil until he
warms up to you a bit more." He finished, letting the arrow go.
It found it's target, and the bird fell to the ground with a
       thump.
"He's almost as protective over Lukas as Lukas is of him."
Tora: Mathias didn't like being told what to do but he knew Tino
was coming from a good place. While Emil and him did make a
break through there was still much left to work on if tonight's
game of choice was any indicator. He watched the Deer take down
the bird with ease, pout slightly tugging the corners of his
       mouth.
"Maybe so but he'll learn sooner than later if he's anything
like his brother. Plus, we didn't do as much as you probably
think. I know Lukas isn't ready for that kind of thing yet. . .
. As much as he was practically begging for it~!" He gushed,
smiling dispite the lewd remark he said to Lukas' closest Deer
       aside from Emil
Riya: Tino winced, not much a fan of such vulgarity.
"That's more than I wanted to know." He groused, pulling his
arrow out of the bird and checking to make sure it was okei to
       use again.
"And as part of the herd, I think it's important that I say
this; we are all very protective of each other." He began, eyes
narrowing. "And I won't hesitate to protect Lukas if I should
need to." He warned, hoping his intent was obvious in his words.
Tora: Mathias narrowed his eyes back and smile dropped. He stood
up straighter, displaying his full height as he looked down at
       the other.
       " . . . Was that a threat Tino?"
Riya: Tino almost wanted to laugh when Mathias tried to
       intimidate him with his height.
"That really depends on your actions." He replied, shrugging. He
didn't really want a fight, he just wanted to make sure that
Mathias knew that Tino wasn't to be forgotten.
"As long as Lukas doesn't feel threatened, then there won't be a
       problem. Respect him."
Tora: Mathias still didn't like the way he was being spoken to
so he didn't completely relax. Even though he was their leader
it just felt like he was taking orders all the time.
"I respect him plenty. The last thing he should be feeling now
is threatened. If anything he's feeling hungry, just like Emil."
He walked ahead, still trying to be quiet for their hunt while
there was still some light to find critters in.
Riya: "That is your first mistake." He breathed, glancing at
the tree line in search for more quail. "You presume to know
what Lukas thinks and feels. And I promise you, you do not. None
of us do, really. Lukas is very good at putting up a facade." He
explained, setting eyes on the prey he sought.
"That's why I say to respect him. You should ask him how he's
feeling instead of assuming you understand." He took his shot,
wincing when it only clipped the bird's wing. It was still
efftective, since the bird fell from it's high perch to it's
death, but he felt bad for giving it such a terrible end.
Tora: "Tino, you really need to respect me right now and stop."
Mathias turned to him completely serious and irked. He didn't
like being told he was wrong by someone other than Lukas because
it actually meant something. That and as much as there was still
left to learn about the Elk and his family, Mathias felt like so
far, he's been doing a decent job at finding some sort of nitch
       in it.
"Lukas is my mate now by his own choice. Whether you think it's
a facade or not is too bad. And Emil is growing older and
smarter each day, hiding it would just be treating him like the
baby the doesn't want to be. Sure I won't be crazy about it but
Lukas knows of my intentions. Do I need to say this any more?-I
want to lead and protect you as my own."
He was sick of being questioned or doubted. His day was going SO
well earlier and now he couldn't get this sour taste out of his
       mouth.
Riya: The reindeer sighed. He hadn't really meant to make
Mathias mad, but it seemed he'd crossed a boundary.
"Look," he began, standing up straight. "I'm not trying to pick
a fight, nor am I trying to tell you what to do. There's a
reason I wasn't the leader. I'm only trying to warn you. Lukas
is a hard person to be mated with. I speak from experience." He
       offered.
"And I'm also not suggesting you hide it from Emil indefinitely.
I'm only saying that telling him the full extent of it so early
on would be a mistake. Emil is at a delicate age right now. He
still adores his brother, but he's learning to question his
decisions. So I'd wait until you've been around longer to tell
him exactly what you two have been up to." He elaborated, ears
flattening against his neck as his lips pulled into a sad smile.
"Advice from someone who has already loved and lost Lukas. I
think it's fair to say that I know best what not to do."
Tora: Once Tino backed down a little Mathias felt himself calm
       down a smidge.
"He is difficult to read sometimes . . . But I'm willing to try.
I know I'm not good at holding my tongue-and it's hard to when
he just makes me feel so happy-but for Emil I can understand.
Don't want a head-but to the stomach." He laughed dryly.
Getting it out of his system was helping cool his head.
"We have to find somedeer for you. It's bad enough we can't find
others like Emil in the area when he's so close to his peak,
hormonal stage. If we head north wecould probably find more
       Reindeer"
       Riya: Tino sighed.
"I don't think I need to travel so far for a mate." He mused.
"I'm sure one is closer than any of us would have imagined. And
I believe I'll be more likely to find love if I'm not seeking it
desperately. I'd worry more about Emil." He added. Poor thing
probably didn't even uderstand why everything that moved game
       him butterflies.
Tora: "It kinda sounds like you already found one." Mathias
wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. But surely they'd known if
there were other deer in this wood.
       Riya: He laughed Nervously.
"I, uh... I wouldn't say that." He laughed. Honestly, he
hadn't really thought of it that way, but Berwald was very
sweet. He'd make a nice mate, that's for sure. But would he be
Tino's mate? Did Tino want him for a mate? So many questions he
had to ask himself, and Berwald.
Tora: "Haha you're totally blushing dude! I think someone's
       smitten, should I be worried?"
At this point he was just teasing. There was no way Tino was
seeing somedeer in these woods-they were the only ones! Or so
Lukas said and the frosty Deer liked to be right about
everything. Plus the Reindeer wouldn't have the time or privacy.
The sun was extremely low at this point so it was time they back
trek'd it home. Hopefully on the way they'd find more animals
       along their way.
Riya: "N-No, that's impossible!" He promised, laughing
       nervously.
"After all, where would someone be hiding?" He wondered. "I just
meant somewhere relatively nearby, that's all!" He offered,
shakily setting up his bow to take another shot. Mathias could
NOT find out about Berwald. That would be a disaster. He
distracted himself with shooting another bird from a tree.
Tora: Luckily they collected 3 more birds, a rabbit, and a
skunk before they made it to camp. Tino was acting a little
finicky but he tended to get like that sometimes so Mathias
       brushed it off.
