Chapter 2: I'm Still Here SubChap: Tino- Berwald
   DIR By: Terra Saltt
       Date: March 11, 2014, 9:48 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       SO FAR:
Tino winced at the cracking sound the moose’s neck made, shivers
       going down his spine.
“Okei, joo, that doesn’t sound good. Come here.” He beckoned,
scooting over so the moose wouldn’t have as far to move. “I’ll
do a better job this time. You definitely need it.” He pointed
out, helping to tug the large moose over so he could have better
access to the expanse of his back.
Well this was awkward. Or was it just Berwald who felt awkward?
Tino didn’t seem to have any problem with sitting himself close
behind the taller and putting his hands all over his back. The
moose stiffened unconsciously, not used to the feeling of
someone else’s touch after so long, but he didn’t object. How
       could he?
Tino frowned, working at the stiffness with little success.
“Oh wow, you’re really tense.” He shared. “Try to relax. I’m not
going to hurt you or anything. And I’m pretty good at this,
according to Lukas and Emil. And believe me, you’ll feel better
afterwards, no matter what my skill level is. Your muscles are
so tied up in knots, it’s a wonder you can still move at all!”
He exclaimed. So, maybe he was exaggerating a little, but hei,
it was only a little stretch.
Berwald tried to do just that, but he really was sore. He could
tell Tino was using a light pressure but it still sent shocks of
pain through him when he touched certain areas that hadn’t been
relaxed in ages. Tino was very intuitive, though, and eased up
to the point that Berwald was not longer trying to hold in
grunts and clenching his fists in his lap. It started to feel
better after a little bit of warm up. It started to feel really
good, actually. Tino’s hands were better at this then he
remembered back when he was half conscious.
The moose’s head rolled forward to give Tino more access to his
neck. This was better than good, this was practically a dream
come true. A cute little reindeer was kneading his neck and
shoulders and turning Berwald’s mind to mush. He had to swallow
before he started drooling while he sat there letting Tino do
       whatever he wanted.
He giggled to himself as the moose finally started relaxing.
“That’s better, isn’t it?” He cooed, working the muscles out
carefully. “You really ought to get massages more often, as big
as your antlers are. It’s not good for your body to put so much
strain on it. I guess it’s a bit hard with no herd though, hmm?”
       He remembered, humming sadly.
“I keep forgetting that you’re alone. We aren’t meant to be that
way, you know? All deer are social creatures, with good reason.
Even beyond our safety in numbers, we need each other for our
health. We’re such odd creatures, aren’t we? We have these huge
antlers, yet we aren’t biologically built to carry them. It’s
truly unfortunate anatomy we have. But we have to make the best
of it, I suppose. There are creatures worse off than us.” He
       rambled, still working out knots.
Berwald tried to focus on Tino’s words but he couldn’t focus on
anything right now, aside from the hands running over his skin.
His eyes couldn’t seem to open again and his breath came slow.
Oh, this was heaven… The moose was starting to fall asleep,
actually. He needed to pinch himself to keep himself awake
       enough to enjoy this.
Every so often, Berwald would let out a little hum of
appreciation. He was sure his face was bright red from the
attention but he didn’t care enough to try and hide it. He was
       facing away from Tino, anyway.
"You can go to sleep if you need to." He offered lowly. "You
must be awfully tired after all of this. I'll wait till you fall
asleep, but I should be getting back to the others soon. I
promise I'll come back though." He swore.
"Make sure you eat all of these mushrooms." He added. "You need
to start working on getting your strength back."
Still, he kept his fingers working, making sure every muscle in
the moose's back had a bit of attention.

That tone of his sent a shiver down Berwald's back, and it was
then that he knew he should probably focus on some self control.
Had it really been so long that even the slightest bit of
attention that might be somewhat affectionate from a complete
stranger was enough to send his stomach flipping and blood
racing? How pathetic. Tino was just being nice, and here Berwald
was, thinking of how much he would like to turn around and do
something that would most likely scare the reindeer off. Perhaps
he was still a little delirious from the poison? Even so, he was
a bit ashamed of himself for being such a creep and even
thinking about it. He would not take advantage of the one who
saved his life, even if he had been the one that poisoned him.
"'Kay," Berwald answered simply, mind too muddled to form real
       sentences.

He wondered if Berwald was always so short-winded. Oh well,
that kind of suited him anyway. He spoke too much, and Berwald
not enough. Perhaps they'd have balanced conversations that way.
He pulled the moose down till he was laying properly, supporting
his head with his lap so he could lay comfortably. When he fell
asleep, he'd replace his legs with the pillow of leaves he'd
made earlier. But he knew sleeping came easier when it was on
something soft and warm. He worked on the sides of Berwald's
neck, softening his massage so that it would be more soothing
than medical, hoping to put him to sleep without a fuss.

Berwald let out a long breath as he relaxed his head and neck in
Tino's lap, large wide antlers snugly fitting on either side of
him. Never mind what the moose thought before, THIS was heaven.
It was easy to ignore his aches and pains when Tino's magic
fingers were rolling circles into either side of his neck, doing
everything but scratch behind his ears. If Berwald were a kind
of cat creature, he would be purring.
"Ya're real good," Berwald said slowly as he started to drift
away. Laying down brought about a dizziness that only pulled him
into unconsciousness faster, despite his best efforts.
       "Wonderful..."

Tino giggled, watching as the moose's coherency quickly
deteriorated and his eyes slid shut. He looked a lot less scary
       when he slept.
He hummed to himself for a bit, to occupy his time till Berwald
was deeply enough asleep that he could slide out from under him
and replace his legs with the leaves. Making sure he'd be
comfortable until he could sneak back, and gathering the
mushrooms so they were close at hand, and checking to make sure
the water horn still had water in it to drink with the
mushrooms, he slipped away, heading back to the sleeping place.

When Berwald woke up a few hours later, he was alone...again.
How many times would he be waking up and wondering if Tino were
just part of a dream or hallucination? He certainly seemed like
he was too good to be true. A cute little reindeer who helped a
big scary stranger for no particular reason, and stuck around to
keep helping even though it might be dangerous to do so... But
Berwald knew it wasn't a dream when he sat up and looked to his
side to see the mushrooms and water horn the reindeer left
behind, and that put a small smile on his face.
The smile faded as reality dawned on him, though. He would only
be seeing Tino maybe one or two more times before the moose
would have to leave. The longer he stayed, the more he risked
being found by Tino's herd, which would not end well for both of
them. As much as he'd like to challenge their leader for
dominance, he knew he probably wouldn't win. Tino said his new
leader was about as big as Berwald. The moose's eyesight would
surely seal his defeat and he knew his size would be too much of
a threat to simply ask for membership. Would he risk his life to
be part of this herd, just for the nice little reindeer he met
       only today?
       ...Maybe.
He decided to save that decision for tomorrow. His head was
still muddled and this strange sudden affection needed to be
digested properly before he did anything crazy. For now, he ate
his mushrooms and drank his water, listening to the frantic
peeps of the chicks whenever their parents came home with food
for them. The nest was a little too low to the ground for
Berwald to be comfortable with leaving them there. He would
probably have to take it with him, but on an easier spot in his
       antlers to access this time.
The moose made himself comfortable as the sun went down and
tried to think of something other than Tino, but Tino seemed to
be the only thing he could think about. Never had he felt so
drawn to anyone, not since he came of age. He'd felt the drive
to mate before, but...was this the same? It didn't feel the
same. Berwald didn't think about mating as much as he did simply
being with Tino, and getting amazing neck rubs from him, and
sharing food, and passing the time listening to his random
chatter and making him laugh. Berwald wanted to know more about
this dream of his, if only fate wasn't so cruel. Tomorrow was
probably the last time he would get to see the reindeer who
saved his life. He would have to make every moment count.
