Chapter 2: I'm Still Here SubChap: Everyone Else

SO FAR:
Lukas nodded.
“What would you like to have? Anything sounding particularly
good?” He wondered, rolling the scroll up. It was obvious he
wouldn’t be learning any new spells any time soon. “I think we
still have some of that dried rabbit, if you’d like that. Or we
could send this idiot to try and catch something?” He suggested,
shrugging.
Said idiot still laid perfectly content in his slumber on the
ground.
Emil tapped his chin. “Can’t we catch a fresh rabbit or
something? I’d be fine letting Mathias hunt.”
Lukas sighed, but nodded.
“I don’t see what you have against dried rabbit, but that’s
fine. I’ll ask him when he wakes. But we have to eat the dried
stuff at some point. You know better than to think I’d let food
go to waste.” He scolded, returning to the pile to put the
scroll away.
“If he can’t catch anything, then I’ll give it a go. I hope he’s
a good hunter though, I’m not very fond of the practice.” He
admitted, frowning.
“We eat dried rabbit all winter long,” Emil almost groaned. “I
just wanna enjoy some juicy meat while I can.” The ram let
himself fall backwards and rested his head on his hands. He was
the only one of them who could lay on his back comfortably at
this time of year.
Lukas rolled his eyes.
"Your lifestyle's a bit high, don't you think? So be it. I might
as well spoil you while I have the chance." He mused, coming to
sit next to the ram.
Without much thought, he began running his fingers through his
brother's silky white hair.
"Are you going to nap as well?" He wondered, smiling softly.

Emil couldn't deny he liked having his hair messed with, but
coming from Lukas, it made him feel like he was being babied. He
leaned away until the other got the point and stopped. "I might.
Not much else to do 'till Ti gets back."

Lukas rolled his eyes. He knew Emil well enough to know that the
ram liked it when his hair was ruffled. Teenage rebellion was
such a curious thing. But he stopped when Emil moved away, not
wanting to push it too much. However, when he agreed to a nap,
he couldn't help but smile to himself, waiting for the ram to
get comfortable. Then he promptly snuggled up, snatching his
little brother up in his arms, ignoring Emil's protests and
holding him close, trapping his legs and arms with his own and
forcing him to cuddle.
"Come on, let your brother have a bit of your time." He cooed,
tugging on one of the curling horns gently. It had always been
something of a form of admonishment, but since Emil was getting
bigger, it was more of a playful gesture.

Emil gave in with a reluctant huff. Well...not as reluctant as
he'd meant it to be. He'd been sleeping snuggled up with his elk
brother since he was a lamb and because of that, he always had a
harder time getting to sleep without that warm feeling of arms
around him. He flicked his ear at the sounds of the sunny
afternoon and basked in the patch of sun that came through the
trees. Summer was the best season and it never lasted long
enough.

He was glad that Emil didn't fight him too much, and they
eventually settled in for a nice nap. Lukas wasn't as keen about
naps as either Tino or Emil, but he didn't mind one on occasion.
And it felt like a lazy day, if he was being honest with
himself. The promise of a big dinner was already working its
sleepy magic on him, and he snuggled closer to his brother,
running his fingers through the short hair again, even though
he'd been brushed off for just that only moments earlier. It
helped Emil get to sleep, and helped him relax enough to follow
him shortly thereafter.
"Good night, lillebror." He cooed.

When Mathais woke he found the brothers curled up with each
other, the scene making a smile creep on his face. It was quite
adorable really. He hoped one day he's halve the chance to one
day cuddle up like that. He watched them for a moment before
looking up to the sky to check the time. Not too long has pass
but he hadn't felt so rested in ages. No nightmares for a good
hour or two.
In much higher spirits he ventured a few feet away hoping to see
Tino but the giant rack of the blonde still wasn't in sight.
He didn't want to leave the brothers sleeping and defenseless,
even if they say the forest was safe. . So instead he took one
of the sharpened sticks he made in his many restless nights and
waited, much like fishing, for anything to scurry by to squire.
Might as well add to their food supply if Tino was going to
bring back more bad berries, right?

When Tino finally made it back, having caught a few fae along
the way, he was surpised to see Mathias waiting with a spear. It
was a bit unnerving, to say the least. He had to remind himself
that Mathias was part of the herd, and that spear, in all
likelihood, was not for him.
Still, he approached with caution.
"Um... Hei." He called, softly. The last thing he wanted to do
would be surprising Mathias into action.

Mathias' ear flicked at the sound of Tino's voice. He turned to
him and smiled when he saw the Reindeer. Man was he a sight for
sore eyes.
"Hey Tino!" He said in a loud whisper, hoping not disturb the
brothers.
He put the weapon down and ushered the shorter over. Tino came
closer and Mathias whispered again.
"I'm going to try and catch us some fresh game before the sun
ses. Would you mind watching over these two? I dunno how long
they've been asleep but I'd rather not leave them unattended."

Tino bit his lip, but nodded.
"I don't mind watching them, though they'd be fine on their
own." He pointed out, glancing over at the two cuddling
brothers. Maybe he'd join them; they looked awfully cozy.
"You'll have the best luck hunting to the south and the east.
The North is mostly foraging grounds, so we've scared anything
worth catching off by traveling there so frequently." He
explained, trying not to let his nervousness show.
"Good luck."
But truly, he was worried. What would happen if Mathias
discovered Berwald? That could be positively disasterous,
especially in regards to the moose's health. He could only hope
that berwald was the lucky one, and that Mathias didn't find
him.
