Noir
DIR By: Gwen

---------------------------------------------------------
The air was thick, a smoky cloud, bodies swaying occasionally
from side to side until it created a disturbance within the
thick mass. It would twist and turn hectically before slowing
all at once, gray tendrils delicately folding back down until
they meshed and melted back into the smoky veil. The noise
within was monotone, a faint and dying hum, many people simply
glancing upon the glasses they held, halfway filled with a dull,
golden liquid before downed between the lips of hopeless men.
Most women within this place were there simply for the pay,
wrapped around the nearly slumbering bodies of men in suits
wasting their well-spent money upon excessive drinking and cheap
floozies. Hence was the life of those with power. A slow, sad
sounding sax tone rang out from somewhere within the
establishment, accompanied by the faint pitter-patter of its
drum counterpart elsewhere, making the mood even somewhat more
melancholy than before. It rang out within this dull place,
causing only the bodies standing to wave and wobble in agreement
with the soulful tone, the others simply staying in their place
as the music washed over their souls. Maybe it was a comfort to
them, or maybe they were too far gone to care anymore.
The dim lit bar, dreary with its drunks, had a guest this day. A
small, simple stage was the source of this sound, it's slow
tones dying down just barely as a single figure began to rise
through the smoke, almost as if a part of it herself. Her form
was slow and slim, melting out of the darkness in a dress as
black as plague dragging down towards the ground, a slit rising
high above her left thigh, exposing the blackened stockings with
her protruding skin. The woman made it almost a mission to
command the attention of her presence as her fingers laced in
velvet black, arm-length gloves slid over the presence of a
microphone, and she tilted back her head slightly. Through the
dim light, the movement locked upon the startling red locks,
faintly mused as they cascaded messily around her shoulders,
gently moving within the smoke as her body gave small, barely
noticeable waves from side to side. Her lips painted a vicious
red parted, the first sounds leaving this singer's lips in a
dangerously provocative, husky tune that drowned out the
attentions of the people inside the bar. She demanded their
attention with her presence, and as expected they gave it to the
shockingly beautiful woman on stage with the eyes painted in
such a smoked manner, it was almost frightening. She was
dangerously gorgeous, and not a single person in the house knew
of the true danger she provoked.
Kathleen was here for one reason and one reason only. Corleone
had asked her especially to lure one of Donovan's lackies out of
the joint. He was constantly seen walking in this dump with a
whore or two on his side, and he had some valuable information
that the big cheese wanted. She didn't exactly know what it was,
just that the moment this lacky would get beat, he would know
precisely why and that was her job. Get the information from
those disgusting lips, and have him beaten until he stayed quiet
for good. Why else would she appear in a place so lacking of
class? It was lacking way too much of the ritz she
enjoyed...Kathleen's body still moved regardless, her hands
still caressed the length of the microphone stand whilst the
husky tones smoothed off her tongue like melting honey, and her
green irises pierced through the audience like knives, searching
thoroughly for the man on her list.

Amongst the sorrowing feeling that pierced the hearts of every
living thing in the room, one man sat at the stool, fingers
gripping a fine pint of Jack Daniels. Girls was all that anyone
cared about that came here, however this was no burlesque club.
This was a pub in the middle of the 1950's, age of crime.
Chicago had been filled with the dark likes of men who worked
for many different families, or mafias. Antonio Corleone was
such a man. He hired the best to work in secret, prostitutes,
hitmen, bodyguards, drunkards, or even just normal civillians.
He even had undercover agents with the cops. A time such as now
Terumi Hazama, a man of Irish decent, despite his name, was
downing glasses by the numbers. He had come to inspect Kathleen.
Only he and Antonio had known of her presence here. Surely
enough Donovan's thug seen a pretty ol' lady, so he got what he
could. He leaned up on Kathleen and spoke his the fumes of his
cigarette flowing into her eyes, "Ey' dere' gally. Ya' wanna'
come up ta' mah' place? Heheh!! I can treat yah' real fine," He
had slapped Kathleen on the bottom hoping to get some attention.
Her eyes pierced the mans eyes and spoke soothingly, "Oh ho,
well pretty, why don't you follow me to my room, it's in back."
Her eyes seductively attracting the man. Sure enough he
followed. Hazama pushed out of his chair, threw a wad of dollars
to the bartender, and trailed the agent to her room. Once she
walked into the mahogany room the man knew he was getting some
tonight, she pushed him in a chair, put a blindfold over his
eyes and said, "Not yet, hun." The man surely "perked up" after
this. Of course Hazama made his way in and tied Vinnie,
Donovan's guard, to the chair he was sitting in. He asked what
was happening and Hazama reached out his stiletto and stabbed
the man in the chest. "AHHHH! What the heck is your problem you
fool!?" Vinnie screamed like a howler monkey. "Ay' you need ta'
learn how da' treat a lady." Hazama took of his fedora and took
the blindfold off the useless soul. "Ah, ah crap! Corleone sent
ya' didn't he!?" The man seen Hazama with his grey piercing
stiletto. "Ya' gonna' ask fo' information, eh'," the man, or
should I say boy, was acting defiant. "No," said Hazama while
grinning "We here to kill ya!" Hazama ran at the man stabbing
the knife in his eye watching the man scream a blood curdling
yell. He pulled the knife out... his eye was punctured on the
blade. He put on his glove, took it off, and stabbed the man in
the throat thirty-seven times. "I could of just slit it..."
Hazama looked at Kathleen and said, "You don't like the violence
do you? You have a knife right in your stockings. Anyways,
Corleone will be pleased with your preformance... Thank you
kindly!" He tipped his hat and the strange man disappeared into
the alleyways surronding the bar.

"Ugh..." Her room was a mess now. Not that it'd been any better
to begin with. This dingy place was heavily displeasing. But now
the walls were sprayed with blood, and during her partner's
little stab extravaganza, he'd managed to land a few drops on
her. Kathleen's ruby shaded lips turned down slightly in disgust
before she let out a long and dreary sigh, shuffling around
within the boards of the drawers in the provided dresser,
pulling out precisely what she'd been looking for. The cubic box
withheld the pleasant, cancerous sticks. One of which Kathleen
plucked gently from its holder, placing the small tube between
her lips, shuffling her gloved hand further inside the drawer to
no avail. She didn't have a lighter. But maybe...Kathleen turned
her eyes upon the bloodied corpse in the chair, sighing loudly
as she immediately shoved away the thought of looking through
those pockets for anything. The red-haired beauty rolled her
jade eyes upwards, running a hand through her mused hair before
walking towards the doorway, peeking her head out with the unlit
cigarette still in between her lips. She seemed out of place,
but in the same place as well. Her blackened dress trailed
against the dirtied stone while she leaned back against the exit
of her dressing room, hair falling over one eye so only one
tired, and slightly irritated glance could be thrown out to the
darkness of the alley. "Hey, you can't just bump off this guy in
my room and leave him! I'm not gonna' be your fall guy for this
one, get back here and help me at least plant somethin' to frame
another guy. This guy's been tryin' to get between every dame's
gams here, I'm sure there's some wise-guy in here who'd be
plenty ready to pop his cap over this...And I need a light."

Hazama looked back at the girl, he knew this was going to
happen. "I can give ya' a light, but that body will be to hard
to plant a fall on. No one in this bar did anything to him for
the past five years! Ok, listen, put it in the trunk of my car,
I got an idea. Or I guess I can get it." The man walked in and
put on his gloves. "Oh yeah," Hazama picked up his fedora and
put it on. "Wait... I've got it! Hand me that glove over there"
Kathleen sighed, walked over and threw the glove at Hazama's
face. He took it off, looked at Kathleen and told her to give
him the knife she had. She obliged and gave it to him. He
twisted the glove inside out and grabbed the blade. "This is
Fernando's glove, right? If so he's or fall guy, now we can just
leave the body here... or better yet the trash in the back. Oh
and his eyes on your pillow, so yeah." He placed the body over
his shoulder and threw the body onto the top of the grabage
where it rolled onto the floor. "What?" he picked it up again
and threw it on the dumpster with the same result. "Bloody
hell!" He grabbed the body and stuffed it in the garbage where
it would still be on top though. "There we go. Kathleen, why not
come with me in the car, I'm sure Antonio will be pleased with
the results of this mission." He led Kathleen to the car, opened
a door for her, and went to the driver side, starting up the
car. "That was a close one." He put the car into drive and went
a good twenty-five miles per hour.

"You're a pain sometimes." The red-head murmured in between the
length of the cigarette, turning to the side in the car as she
began to pat the pockets upon his chest, looking for the
lighter. "Couldn't even give me a light after disposing. That's
not how you treat a lady." Huffing softly, she slid her fingers
into his breast pocket, pulling out the lighter and finally
lighting the cancerous stick as she pleased, taking a long, slow
drag before her lips pursed pooling out the smoke in a puffy
cloud whist she let out a relieved sigh. "You know...we were
supposed to get some information out of him." She murmured as
she looked at her gloved hand holding the cigarette, turning it
over and over before placing the tube back between her lips,
leaving a red imprint upon the white object. "I don't think
Corleone will be pleased about that...said that guy had some
information we needed, but you had to get too excited and kill
that ossified pushover before we got a word out of him." With
this, she took another drag that expelled itself loftily inside
the car. Her arms crossed while she slid her left leg over the
right, leaning against the side of the car with the cigarette
trailing a thin line continuously into the interior, her husky
voice slightly irritated as she spoke. "Didn't even get my pay,
Corleone better pay me good for going into a dump like that with
a wise guy like you."

"Oh I got some information. Bartender had tons of it. What do
you think I threw him the wad of money for?" Hazama held two
file filled with files and threw them on Kathleen's lap. "He
gets these kinds of chumps everyday." He put on the turn signal
and turned right. "Corleone won't even be mad. Just say you got
the information. I did my job. I wasn't supposed to kill him, so
consider me buying that extra info he wouldn't know an excuse
for killing him." He noticed a slow driver in front of him.
"Ahhh! I hate this! First the body rolling out of the dumpster,
now this!" He overtook the car and drove at least a good forty
on a twenty-five mile road. "We are going to get to Corleone,
and soon." He looked at Kathleen and then at the road, he nearly
hit a truck but swerved just in time. "Heheh..." Hazama let out
a fake laugh. He reached for one of the files and opened to
Aldofo Phillis. "He's Donovan's underboss. I got his location.
He operates at the old drawbridge near the Sionis factory. He
completely owns the area. In fact, Donovan is hiding there. He
looked at Kathleen and told her that she had to say she found
the info. He had decided to barely talk, and it was a long drive
back to the compound.

"I assumed it was all for the booze. You're quite the drunkard."
She mumbled in slight distaste at him having found yet another
way to turn a mistake into a victory. A quality she both envied
and hated. The woman jumped slightly as she felt the files upon
her lap, letting out a slight exhale of smoke whilst the embers
burned brightly in the dim car, flicking through the files with
her eyes piercing down upon the information. But the further she
looked, the more files she found, and Kathleen simply resided to
herself that she would flick through these files later. Though
the outcome of what'd they be was probably predictable. Illegal
weapon trafficking, prostituting services, who owed who money,
the usual.
Kathleen flicked the files up onto the dashboard, simply taking
one more long drag until the embers burned all the way to her
fingertips before she dropped the butt of the cigarette onto the
floorboard, crushing it beneath her black heel as she leaned her
cheek against her knuckles, pondering the lights zipping by,
only looking in mild distaste at his driving tendencies. "Well,
good job regardless. Though I pictured a stud like you to be a
little more orthodox in these handlings...but, it gets the job
done. We'll keep it a secret that you killed him. I'll look
through these later, I did want to see what all the hush-hush
was on bumping this guy." Kathleen released a soft yawn as she
leaned back into the seat of the car, tilting her head back
while she closed her eyes, reaching a hand upwards to drag her
fingers through her hair. "Later, we should scope out Donovan's
place. Corleone will want to know about the layout."

Hazama couldn't lie, she was a good looking gal', but it was his
partner. "Well, I usually am, but this creep deserved it... did
you ever hear the case of Gwen Relik? He raped and killed her.
She was my aunt... He deserved what was coming to him." He took
one of his hands off the wheel and brushed her hair back with
his fingers. "You look tired." He put his hand back on the wheel
and continued driving. He took about an hour to get back to the
compound. The duo had stopped outside of a large mansion with
many cars. As they exited the car they seen five of Donovan's
men being escorted in at gunpoint. Hazama opened the door for
Kathleen "After you, m'lady." He and Kathleen walked into the
building. A massive chandelier hung from the top of the
building. Hazama led Kathleen through the place. He led her into
a room with two chairs. He pulled a chair out for her and a
chair out for him. Not even a minute later a tall, old man
walked in. He was wearing a black suit with a red tie. He had a
black hat and a stubbon look on his face. The man spoke with a
rich Italian accent, "Ello' family. Today Vinnie Phillis was to
be gathered information out of. Was that information gathered?"
Kahleen threw the files on the table. He looked through them.
"These are not normal dealings, you two. These are the trades
between a mole in our family and him. It also has the location
of his hideout. The Sionus Factory. Good job you two... but why
did you give me files? He didn't have those on him, you got an
outside source, didn't you?" Hazama shook his head at Antonio.
"Kathleen seduced the bartender into giving it to her... Heh,
giving it to her. Anyways, she got the files from him, right
Kathleen?" He looked at Kathleen and winked.

"That's disgusting..." She sighed quietly before opening her
eyes slightly at the touch of her hair being pulled back, simply
sighing again before losing her eyes. "Scum like that living
upon the street don't really get entitled the business of life.
Just another drugstore cowboy with too much money and
confidence." She was never a big one on doing the deed herself,
but Kathleen could see the reasons behind it for others, and if
it was a personal vendetta than so be it, let it be carried out.
So long as it didn't interfere with her job, it was fine.
Kathleen was all to pleased to get out of the car, stepping out
to stretch her limbs with a slow yawn, following after Hazama
with the distinct click of her heels striking upon the ground
rhythmically, paying absolutely no mind to the chumps being led
by the hot holsters themselves. Kathleen was tired. Performing
took a lot out of her, between all of the prepping and the
"after shows" she was required to give in order to finish her
job, it made the woman tired far beyond her years. Sure, she was
attractive now, but she never had the genuine fun that a younger
dame like her should have had, but being in this sort of
"business", who could have fun like that? People were always
after them, their hides and everything, enemies of the law and
the bad, there was no true place for them to be. All that
mattered was living until the next day to repeat it all again.
It was a relief to be back in her ritzed room. The walls a
luscious red and the carpet a light undertone, her furniture
laid out with all its lavish garments thrown around. Whether it
be a length of black stocking or an article of clothing for a
more perverse taste, it laid about and she didn't quite care.
All that Kathleen was truly interested in were the silken sheets
rustled and unmade on her bed. After disposing of the files to
her boss, of which she gave a curt nod to, Kathleen slid herself
behind the changing screen, the only thing able to be seen being
that of her darkened silhouette and the occasional wisp of
reddened hair, but she spoke to the men within her room almost
casually. Despite the look of spite she sent through towards
Hazama, even though he couldn't have seen it. "Yeah....he was a
hard-boiled lounge lizard with a kisser that tasted far too much
like the booze he dealt in that joint, but he wasn't too bright
and just simply gave it up." She muttered, her dress falling to
the floor as she released herself from it's binding hold with a
sigh of relief. "I had Hazama take care of the rest. I didn't
get to personally read through the files on my own though..."
Kathleen ended her sentence with a husky yawn before she
appeared from behind the screen a corset wrapped upon her body
while she held a sleep shawl around her shoulders, walking
lazily back to her chair where she lounged over it, propping her
cheek against her knuckles while looking to her boss. "As the
big cheese, you get to tell who gets to take a peep and who
don't, right? Mind if a peer a bit, Boss?"

Antonio had replied with an, "Of course, you were the ones who
made this happen." He slid the files over to her to look. Hazama
looked at her, "I hadn't known you would be a lady of the night.
I thought it was just your act. But, I bet you make quite some
cash from it." He looked over at the files pointing out little
bits of information here and there until they had gone through
every last file to and fro. Kathleen handed over the documents
and decided she would rather go to her room and get some rest
since Hazama talking wasn't going to help her get some sleep.
Hazama spoke with Antonio. "Sir, I know we aren't supposed to do
this, but she is quite witty, and I think I might have taken a
liking to Kathleen. Despite her physical job she has quite some
talents besides pleasing others. I know, this is strange but, do
you understand?" Antonio looked up from the files at Hazama.
"Back in the 1920's, I had fallen in love with a young berlesque
girl, she was good at dancing, and all around fun to talk to. I
thought she was the one... and then she turned up dead. Donovan
had a crush on her to... The reason this war started was because
of her. Her and the murders of my men. This war between us has
been going on for thirty years. I know you two can help end it.
Don't make the same mistakes as me kid. You can have some
feelings, and encounters, but to much love can end our entire
operation. Does she even like you?" Hazama thought back. "I do
not know fully, but I do recall being called a stud. Not that
that matters. I just hope she isn't listening through the wall.
I need to get some sleep." Hazama walked upstairs into his room,
and opened up a drawer. He pulled out a picture of his brother.
"Just remember you died fighting for America brother..." He set
the image away, changed into a pair of boxers and a white
wifebeater and called it a day.
