An Angel and her Serpent.
DIR By: Sleep

Oh how she couldn't wait for that cool darkness to bath her; the
sunlight used to be something she enjoyed, not it only caused
her to remember her curse. Countless days of crawling along her
belly, only to be forced with the pain of transforming twice a
day. At least she had the night to enjoy as her true self, but
what benefit did it ever amount her? The sun hadn't seen her
deep milk chocolate flesh in over one hundred years, yet she
could feel the hot ground beneath her scaly skin; though it was
a blessing in disguise. Creeping around a tall bush, Siyan's
neck lifted as she seen the last remainder of the sun before
it's departure releases her from the vile curse she's forced to
live with for another night in the cold. Perhaps she should have
learned her lesson by now, but she felt this punishment too high
of a price to pay for what she tried to do. Regardless, Siyan
hasn't seen Nayis in over ten years, no telling if she had been
killed, cured, or just lost in the world as she was. They had
drifted apart and really had no way of reaching each other.
"sssssss" The black tongue of the snake slithered out, tasting
the damp and musky air of what seemed to be an everglade; swamp
lands. Finding the place where she had just left her clothes,
somewhere high and out of the way, she waited within the tall
damp grass until that accursed orb vanished..

"Okh, chto ya zdesʹ delayu?" Sera muttered to herself as
she crouched high in the branches of a cypress tree whose roots
extended way down into the murky water beneath her. This muggy
heat here in the swamp was starting to make her skin crawl, and
she wished desperately for some relief, but it was better than
being frozen into some cave again. That had not been a fun
winter at all... Her gaze was soon captured by a glimmering
orange glow reflected out across the water. Sunset. It was the
only thing that never got old in this endless process of just
simply existing. Even though life was always the same, the
brilliant colors of a sunset were ever changing. None of them
were alike, each one like a new painting spread across the
fading blue canvas of a sky. Watching as the giant circle
descended ever lower until finally disappearing beneath the
horizon in a faint purple glow, Sera sighed and basked in the
peacefulness of dusk before slipping down the trunk and leaping
to the water's edge. She glided silently through the marshy
grass, listening to the sounds of the night take over the
silence and keeping an eye out for any dangers as she made her
way up the hill to who knows where this time.

There it was; that simple turn from daylight to the nocturne.
The subtle sign that her double life is about to make that
change. Hissing loudly, the snake began to thrash about the
water and tall grass as if caught on fire and trying it's
hardest to put that unspeakable torture out. Splash after splash
the snake's body writhed about in wrenching pain; it never gets
any easier, but has become somewhat bearable. Soon, the snake's
body stopped moving, only for the flesh to crack and peel away
as if shedding it's skin. Soon, the figure began to grow and
widen, covered in a thick mucus like substance. Hands formed
from the shedding flesh, then arms, legs, torso, head... The
process took about an half hour, but after it was done, there
was a woman in the snake's place, simply laying nude in the cool
night's swamp water. It was nice when she had a home, but now,
it's time to rough it like the animal she was cursed to be.
Grunting, Siyan slowly sat up and stretched, popping her newly
formed bones and getting used to being human again. Black
slitted eyes focused upon her clothes as she stood to her feet
and stretched; it's going to be another long night..

The chill of the night soothed her as her bare feet traversed
the muddy, wet ground. Haunting cries and chirps surrounded
Sera, causing her to shiver and hug herself tightly. "I
reiterate my previous question...what the hell am I doing here
in a place like this?" Her pace quickened as a certain anxious
feeling crept its way through her. Somewhere not too far off
from where she was walking, she could hear the sounds of a
struggle and wondered what creature could be making all that
noise. A sudden pain ripped through her mind, bringing her to
her knees. The sensation pulsated in her head, drifting from
dull to splitting and then back again in mere seconds.
"Zashchita!" she cried out, wincing and gripping both sides of
her head. "What...is this...?" Her eyes snapped open, revealing
their deep blue color. Yellow streaked through them like
lightning bolts coming from the center. She had not sensed any
other beings in the area earlier; there was no source to this
pain that she could find. And then it was over. Staggering to
her feet, Sera broke out into a blind run to escape this weird
place she'd found herself in only to trip over an exposed root
and fall flat on her face in front of a woman she hadn't noticed
before. "Great..." she muttered angrily.

"Finally.." The woman who was once a snake uttered silently
while reaching up to take the towel from her sack of clothes and
wiping herself down, getting the goo off of her slender, dark,
and glossy body. It was another dark night, headed in a
direction that she didn't know of, but she was headed there.
Maybe something woulc come of this night..? Bah! Who was she
kidding. She wound up in the middle of nowhere. From a forest to
a fucking marsh of all places! Rolling her eyes, the woman
slipped on a silk blue and black dress with no shoes. Why should
she? Wasn't like she was afraid of being bitten by a snake. A
giggle left her lips before her black forked tongue slithered
out and tasted the air around her. The water was still hot
though the air had a tranquil sense to it; getting cooler and
lighter as the humidity began to decline slowly. Siyan turned as
she heard shuffling through the marsh and a large splash.
"SSsss!" She hissed out, jumping back slightly. Her fingers
curled up while her slitted eyes gazed at the fallen figure who
face planted right before her. "Where did you come from? You
better have a good exxxxplaination.." She demanded, taking a
step back and grabbing her bag. She thought for a moment to just
leave the person there and go about her own business, but what
odds were there to find another person here in the middle of
nowhere?? Hunter? Nah, she didn't look the type and was oddly
clumsy for a hunter. But, one could never be too sure.

Of all the idiotic, clumsy things she had done in her lifetime,
this one had to take the cake. And what was worse, someone was
here to witness her ungraceful plummet into the wet earth. She
blew a strand of raven-black hair out of her face and pushed
herself up and onto her knees, wringing some of the moisture out
of her tunic and brushing bits of swamp grass and
who-knows-what-else off of it. Placing her pale hands on her
thighs, she huffed out a reply to the suspicious woman who now
spoke to her. "You know, I could ask you the same question, a
human being out here alone in the middle of
thi--podozhdite...You can see me?" Sera's eyes widened as this
revelation dawned on her, their hue changing to a greenish color
before flashing back to their original icy blue. This woman
wasn't a normal human like she had previously assumed, and this
one seemed to tug at a memory in the back of Sera's mind from
long ago. Of course, it could just be the wierd swamp gasses or
whatever getting to her. However, all irritation had vanished,
and curiosity had taken it's place, but before she could ask any
questions her polite nature took over. Dipping her head in a
greeting to the strange female, she spoke in a formal tone,
"Pardon my rude behavior. It has been a long time since I have
spoken with anyone. I am Sera Anjerona, and I am no hunter. I
simply found myself here in my wandering." She cocked her head
to the side slightly, smiling as she asked, "Now what is your
name, if I may have the pleasure of that knowledge."

As the woman sat up, Siyan's eyes never left her, as if she had
a target along her frame and the dark eyes of Siyan was locked
upon that target as with a sniper's scope. She wasn't going to
let this woman pull a quick one on her, so when she explained
herself, she would lower her guard; one could never be too
careful. She still remained on her knees, which Siyan thought
that she could get used to this position. As the girl spoke, the
Serpent was prepared to answer with a comment somewhere along
the lines of 'People do thrive in locationssss like thisss, ya
know..' but before her thought had the chance to get out, the
woman curiously asked if Siyan could see her. It was strange and
the Black Mamba figured this woman to be crazy. "Of coursssse I
could ssssee you." She said with a tilted head before shaking
it. "Maybe it'sss the heat getting to you. Be glad the
ssssun'sss down, or you might ssstart sssseeing treessss
sssspeaking to you.." Siyan's noticeable snake like hiss was
apparent, but after years of speaking like that, went unnoticed
to her. She laughed and listened to the introduction.
"Ssssera.." She stopped to think for a second then shook her
head. "Ssssoundss familiar.." Shrugging and offering the woman a
hand, Siyan decided she'd return the favor. "Ssssiyan..."
Though, after she said her name, she realized something. "How'd
you know what I wassss thinking?"

“Siyan, eh? How…exotic sounding. I assure you, the heat is not
the reason I asked, although it is most…how you say? Unpleasant,
for me… I ask because most cannot, with the exception of a few
chance meetings such as this,” Sera’s arms found themselves
loosely folded across her chest as she spoke in her Russian
accent, studying the other female closely. Her eyes shifted to a
greyish blue as she tried to figure this strange serpentine
being out. Siyan’s dark, lithe features hinted that she could
have been a dancer or perhaps an athlete, but the way she held
herself, guarded and untrusting, almost flighty even, suggested
a more cunning nature. Then there was that black lined mouth,
those livid eyes with the slitted pupils, and her peculiar
snake-like way of speaking. Demon? She didn’t have the aura of
one. I could ask her, but would it really profit me to know? And
how do I even know she’d answer me? Sera thought silently.
Stretching out her right arm to take the offered hand
tentatively, she spoke again. “It is hard to explain how I knew
your thought. It was just there and I heard it. Happens
sometimes,” Sera shrugged. She wasn’t sure just how much she
wanted to tell yet, so she kept her explanation brief. The dim
light from the stars and moon highlighted the silvery scars that
ran up her pale arm and disappeared into her tunic as she pulled
herself up to her full seven foot height. Once standing, Sera
adjusted the silver choker around her neck so the charm was in
the front and straightened her damp clothes as best she could.
“So…you are not from around here, yes? Forgive me for assuming,
but you do not look like the type to live in a swamp,” she said,
tucking a sable strand of hair behind her ear.

"Mmm.." Siyan thought out loud as the woman explained her
reasons for asking. Though, it was pretty strange, but Siyan had
seen more stranger things in her time alive. "I like to think
ssssoo.." She said with a grin, allowing her hair to fall over
her shoulders. The damp grasslands tickling her feet as she
wiggled them through the murky water. "I happen to find the
heat. . . Comforting. But, to each they own, right?" Siyan spoke
and shrugged. "Sssso you're a ghossst to sssome and a lady to
few.." Siyan studied and leaned against the tree for a moment.
"Mussst be niccce to be able to do that. I'm usssually looked
over during the day. But, that'sss not anything ssspecial.." The
woman listened as Sera explained more. So deliberate, so to the
point. She didn't seem like one to talk much; just got what she
needed to say out of the way and moved on. "I sssee. Quite the
interesssting ssskill you have there. Could have ussssed you a
few yearsss ago.." She muttered and watched the woman stand to
her feet, while still holding onto her awfully cool hand and
giving it a light kiss. Good lord, this woman was tall. Standing
near a full foot and a half over Siyan. If not more. Siyan would
no doubt come up to the woman's chest; attractive to say the
least. "You haven't sssseen me during the day.." Siyan mused and
turned her back to the woman. "Come.." She requested. "I know a
placcce where we could be more comfortable for the time being.
And, no, I don't normally dwell in placccesss like thisss, but I
have no home either. I jusssst move around while I can.." She
said, walking to the direction of a small cabin near by.
"Jusssst over thissss hill, there issss a cabin that'ssss not
occupied right now. Sssshouldn't take usss no more than a few
minutessss. Sssso, don't worry your pretty little head."

Lady? Sera’s mind lingered on the word. To others, and herself,
she had always been a creature of mystery. Just one of the few
immortal beings who roamed this earth freely. A village elder
had called her a giantess, a tribal shaman had dubbed her a pale
demon and a devilish ghoul, some travelers’ tale had her noted
as a phantom of the mountains, and she was even mentioned in one
area’s ancient folklore as a deity of death and winter (she
always had thought that those particular priestesses were a
little off their rockers). Of course, Sera did not think of
herself as any of these things; she had always just been
herself, even if she did not know what that was exactly. But a
lady…she had not been called that in…well over a thousand years.
The thought caused her eyes to shimmer a happy shade of cerulean
as she listened to Siyan speak.
“It is not always that great. Sometimes, being unseen can lead
to a lonely life. Not that I mind the solitude. Peace and quiet
is…nice,” Sera trailed off, thinking she had said too much
again. She always had felt a bit awkward when speaking to others
because of the time gaps between meetings. Podozhdite…what had
the woman meant by “could have used you?” Sera was almost
tempted to ask, but froze when she felt Siyan’s smooth lips meet
her slender hand briefly. What is this? she thought silently as
a very faint, almost unnoticeable flush graced her cheeks, and
she glanced down at the snake woman with a confused look. It was
gone in mere seconds though as Siyan turned to walk away and
asked Sera to join her. Following her could be a bad idea, but I
do not sense that she has malicious intention. At least not for
the moment In fact, her aura almost foretold the opposite, but
one could never be too sure… Shrugging, she followed after the
woman anyway, being extra careful not to trip over any more
roots as they moved through the dark, marshy forest. “You have
no home?” Sera asked as she ducked under a low hanging branch.
“I suppose we have something in common then. My home is
everywhere and nowhere at all. Almost like a nomad or a gypsy’s
way of living, you could say. Always travelling. Never in one
spot for long, although I have my favorite places to visit.”
Most of those being either tall, snow covered mountain ranges or
open tundra and fields in colder climates, but she did enjoy
visiting the ocean as well. She would not say this though,
choosing to fall into silent thought again until they made it to
this cabin.
