Maddie's Ever Changing Wonderland. {Prologue}
DIR By: Jackie
Date: April 23, 2012, 10:21 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The darkness was like lace; just as the cobwebs above him,
touching the tree limbs like they were apart of each other.
Hisses and croaks covered the area, making every other sound
completely silent in comparison. The world around him was
changing...he was seeing things differently...Why was it
changing? He asked himself...It used to be beautiful...The
muscles in his young hands tightened around the rock. His own
personal rock, one that he had since the first day that he
stepped into the wonderland. Stop! There was a disturbance.
Carter froze. His legs bent and his arms out, he held his rock
tightly enough that if he squeezed just a little bit more, he
might have thought he would have crushed his bones rather than
the rock. His used to be green eyes were turning, fading into
the black as he watched clouds above him changing into a gray
hazes. The place was losing it's color...What was happening? He
continued through the bushes...touching over the trees feeling
more dead ones than live ones. This was his place. Who was
changing it? Bushes felt like scratching needles, poking and
digging into his skin as he walked by. They acted as if they
were reaching for him. No longer was there life, or color...it
was fading into the shows that he used to watch. Was he fading
into another dream?
Carter awoke, lifting himself from his soft linen bed. No longer
were there things around him that caused sadness, but more of a
numbness surrounded him. The whiteness surrounded him. Personal
shut down was mandatory here...Mommy would not approve of his
actions...He clutched onto the blankets and settled back against
the bed as he tried to slip away from this place. He wanted his
own world to come back to life. It had been happy for the past
couple of years, but now, it was changing...Why was it
changing..? Carter was suddenly shook. His shoulders captured in
the rough grasp of the woman's hands. "Carter Stone, wake up!"
His young eyes fluttered open and he was stricken from the look
that stared back at him. He was choking...why could he not
speak. His eyes fluttered again, and it was as if he had just
woken up from another dream. The woman stared at him with her
rough hands no longer around his shoulders but at his neck. He
let out a whine and then a soft scream before she finally
released him harshly. He landed against the wall. Shaking, he
looked up at her, wrapping his little arms around his legs.
"Carter, it seems that you have had enough of your attacks. Get.
Up." She said hoarsely. The woman frightened him...but who else
would he know? His other mommy never even looked at him...He was
different, she had once said to new mommy when he was younger.
He remembered his old mommy's face, but that was it...
"Do I have to punish you again? Get your ass up!" She hollered
again, marching back in. Quickly, he stood from his sheets and
began making the bed. "Yes ma'am." He said quietly, looking down
at the white sheets as he folded them just how she liked them.
He made sure that there was no wrinkles...or he would have to
start all over again. Tears touched his eyes...He wanted out of
this place...

"13" he could hear the voices calling to him, trying to lure him
away again. Stupid idiots acting like he could predict the next
time the child was going to arrive. "You do know what is
happening right?" again the voices were questioning his
intelligence. Of course he wasn't all that intelligent, he just
wanted to be left alone. He wanted to be left to his own
devices, to cast his spells like he used to. He used to make the
children smile, used to be able to be free with his craft. But
since the nightmares came, and the voices returned to him. It's
always been the same. No more children return to Wonderland
anymore.
"You know 13 that the line is shifting, soon the two worlds will
overlapse" 13 closes his eyes tightly forcing himself to wake up
once more. "I hate those dreams, those stupid voices" he stares
out of the window. Bars, at some point in recent events bars
started to appear around the world. The vibrant colors were now
starting to fade, lands that were once miles long. Were now
shortened to nothing more then shortened plains with cracks
along the edges. Beautiful lakes were now disgusting bogs,
marshlands that used to be home to some nice beavers now were
swamped with alligators and crocodiles.
"Well time to go about, and hope the child doesn't comeback any
time soon. Otherwise the voices might force me to capture him"
he looks worn down by time. Of course he had, time wore down
many different creatures. Especially the queens, he remembered
the times when the two queens were ruling. Such a time no longer
existed.

“What… Happened…. Wonderland… What… Where have you gone?
My sweet… Sweet… Wonderland, my beautiful creation…” Maddie
whimpered while sitting in a swing, she gently pushed herself
with one foot. “My Wonderland… You were so lively. Where have
you gone?” Repeating, resting her face against the chain. Maddie
stopped the swing from moving, pushing up out of the swing. Odor
roamed the land. Dead animal’s lay about, blood spilled atop the
ground, flower pedal’s crushed and withered. Maddie’s huge blue
eyes searched out for any survivors. “Dead… Everything… Dead…
What happened?!?! Why is everything like this?!?!” Confused on
what had happened, Maddie broke out into a run. The sun that
once shined upon what used to be Wonderland turned black. Maddie
felt tears swell in her eyes; light brown bangs fell into her
face. No other emotion filtered her mind but being melancholy.
Gently reaching out towards dead flowers, soft gentle fingertips
brushed the pedals. Soon after the pedals turned to ashes, and
fell to the ground. Tears fell like a stream everything she
remembered, happier thoughts of shrilling laughter roamed
around, dancing with glee. Happiness bathed Wonderland in one
sweep; everything had been so stunning and vibrant. Continuous
high-pitched laughter rolled about.
When roaming for hours on end. Maddie’s heart begun to break
slowly, every breath she took it shattered every so lightly.
Dropping her head in defeat, her body became numb. Maddie
couldn’t move from her spot, when looking up after tears blurred
her vision. Maddie could see a woman, an older woman. Maddie
moved towards her in curiosity wondering if she knew what
happened. Wiping the tears away, she ran towards her feeling her
heart fly once more. When Maddie had gotten closer, the woman
had been sitting on her knees, her head was lowered her long
dark brown hair hiding her boney face structure. When the woman
looked up Maddie became woozy, clenching at her heart, painful
jolts ran through her head as she fell to her knees. Placing her
hand over her heart as the pounding became outraged. Sitting
there, holding herself everything around her became shaky, and
moved crazily. Blood began to seep out of her mouth. Not
understanding on what was happening Maddie screamed out, as she
screamed her teeth began to fall out. The older woman looked up,
it was her… The older version… But how could this be??? Maddie
reached towards herself, trying to indicate for help. But sadly
enough the older her turned into ashes. As the ashes fell flames
began to engulf Wonderland….
Maddie awakens from her nightmare.

Carter looked around him. Kids lingered among the playground,
playing with the toys, and climbing on things that the Mrs. Tea
had made sure to tell them not to do. He watched in wonder,
seeing how they laughed, seeing how happy they were. Some of
them had so much that they whined when something did not go
their way. It was a reason why Carter kept to himself. His eyes
fell from the scene of other children and he looked down at the
wooden structure that he had found in his Wonderland. It was
when Wonderland was not all dark and grey. There had once been
life to this toy, and Carter kept it for safe keeping, but he
began to wonder if he had taken something...and it was causing
it. He pursed his lips. He would return it when he went back
inside. Turning his head, he walked toward the bench at the back
of the playground. Most people stayed away from him, as well as
the bench. He didn't understand why. Did they pity him? What was
happening? He held the wooden toy in his hands, twisting and
turning it's pieces trying to figure out the pattern. He touched
one of the pieces and it came off. It was not broken of course.
Though, Carter still felt his heart drop for a moment. He was
scared. Wonderland was falling apart, but yet, maybe he could
fix it....Just like the wooden structure.
Twwwwwweeeeeeeeeettttttt! Mrs. Tea blew on her whistle. For a
moment, Carter ignored her whistle and sat there on the bench,
staring at his toy. He needed to figure out how to fix this. If
he could fix it in just a way, maybe Wonderland would fix itself
according to the wooden structure. He shrugged and stuffed the
small piece back into it's place, making sure that it did not
come off, and he shoved it back into his pocket, making sure
that none of the bigger boys would steal it from him. They had a
habit of making sure they took something from him at least once
a day. Along with blood sometimes. Running to stand in line with
the other kids, Carter looked ahead, finally feeling a smile
pull at the corner of his lips when he looked up at his teacher.
She smiled back at him before looking at the rest of the kids.
"Come on, children. Follow me. Hands behind your back, please!"
She said, grinning at the rest of them. They did as they were
told, though some of the guys in the back thought they did not
have to. "She ain't my momma. I don't have to listen to her."
One boy, JerkFace, as Carter liked to call him, crossed his arms
in front and walked ahead with a few stragglers behind him.
Carter glanced back thanks to the help of some of the girls
talking about it. One girl actually being a crush of his, but he
would have to keep that a secret. No one could know...
"Do what Mrs. Tea says." He ordered quietly, glaring back at
JerkFace. His eyes widened and looked back at the boys behind
him before smiling. "I can't understand you? Freak." The boy
kept in step. Carter turned his head with a growl escaping his
lips. He could feel courage coming across his bones, but he
didn't know why. He stepped out of line and fell to the back.
"Do what Mrs. Tea says." He repeated. Carter knew he was smaller
than JerkFace, but he was going to make sure that Mrs. Tea told
him to do, and that he did have to listen to her. The boy only
laughed in his face before pushing him to the ground. "I don't
listen to freaks, and especially freaks with no mom!" JerkFace
said with a laugh from the rest of his boys. Some kids in the
line laughed with him, but others stared at him, but did not say
anything as he stood on the ground. Mrs. Tea was beginning to
stop when she looked back and saw Carter on the ground. She
stopped the class, but it was too late. Carter was already on
his way up and running into JerkFace's big body, bringing him to
the ground with the amount of anger that he held. "Take that
back!" He screamed, punching his face before the boy grabbed his
wrists and pushed against his strength until he maneuvered just
right and used his knee to bring Carter off of him, holding his
back. Carter whined and laid on the ground before he felt a kick
upon his head...then everything went black...
He returned to Wonderland faster than he thought.

Once again 13 was on the hunt for something to eat, most of the
edible things were now nothing more then piles of ash. But as he
continued to walk forward a veil of blackness overtook him. When
he came he was standing in the middle of a place where water was
pouring over his head. He didn't change his appearance, but the
water startled him. He stands up shaking water off his body
afraid that it would start to burn his body like some of it did.
He heard a whistle blowing and he wandered to it, he knew the
card pack would most likely be harassing some innocent
Wonderlandian. As he comes across the scene he see's the boy
from his dreams, and watches as a human stomps on his head. For
some reason this angered 13 so he races toward the one who had
stomped down on the boys head. He lifts the boy off the ground
and sends him sailing for a few inches. Calmly he picks up the
boy from his dreams, and takes him away. Of course there was
another human coming after he looks at the woman. "You can't
just take a boy" he looks toward the woman. "I suppose you know
what you are going to do with him do you?" 13 asks quietly.
"Well we can take him to the infirmary" the woman says.
"Infirmary?" 13 asks quietly. The woman looks annoyed "You're a
foreigner aren't you...the infirmary is where we take people who
get hurt to make them better. Follow me" the woman seemed
slightly annoyed. Normally 13 wouldn't listen to anyone who
spoke to him in such a manner, but he could tell for whatever
reason this human carried about the boy in his arms. So he
follows her toward the infirmary, she indicates a bed he should
place the boy down on.
"How do you know Carter?" the woman asks. 13 was temporarily
stunned, he couldn't honestly say that he'd been dreaming about
the boy. So he just lied, he'd been doing it for so long to
avoid the card pack that it just came naturally. "I'm his
guardian...when his err..parents died they told me to watch
after him" he lied through his teeth. He was surprised that none
of them bothered to question him about his ears...he reaches up
to make sure that they were still there to his surprise they
were gone. *That's convenient* the thought passes through his
head as he just stands there and waits for Carter to come to.

Maddie’s quivering body lay ridged underneath the
blankets, droplets of sweat trickled along her pale forehead.
Fretful she became, no air circulated. Breathless she became,
tiny trembling hands clasped a hold of the blanket, clenching
firmly in her clutches, while gulping at air. A raging heart
throbbed, and clashed against her rib cage. Traumatized she was.
Maddie moved her numb lips; her jaw cracked and locked in place.
Fiercely shifting her tongue to oust words, Maddie cried out
“Ecky!!! Ecky!!!” Goose bumps arise high atop her smooth skin,
the small hairs stood up as well. Becky sat up; her gut twisting
edginess rode atop the unsettling waves of concern, Becky
sensations clustered together. Shuddering shocks ran along her
vertebrae, mother like senses activated. Without thought, Becky
ran to Maddie’s room shoving the door open. Maddie’s sobs was
audible to Becky, rushing to aid her youngest sister. Worried
eyes searched over Maddie similar to a hawk, Maddie’s appearance
was deathly. Her face was extremely pale, colorless orbs glazed
over. Teeth clenched firmly, Becky swooped into swift action.
Stretching out to scoop Maddie into her motherly embrace,
affection and tenderness bathed Maddie’s tensed ridged body, and
cleansed her broken soul.
Distress appeared upon Becky’s facial expressions, an unease
tone slipped past her full pink lips in a flash, “What happened?
Why are you so white?” Maddie rested her head against Becky’s
chest, Becky connected to her sister immediately with no sign of
wavering. She felt her young sister’s heart pound violently
against her chest, with jumpiness Becky placed a warm hand atop
Maddie’s heart singing a tranquil melody. “You’re a golden star,
yes you are. You’re a golden star that you are. You’re a vibrant
golden star so clear in equality that you are. That’ll be great
someday, a knowledge star that’ll seek its path through
darkness. You’re a golden star, the happiest star amid the vivid
universe. You’re. A. Golden. Star. My one and only special…
Golden-n-n-nn… Star-r-rr.” Becky’s kind voice swirled around
Maddie, “It’ll be okay Maddie. I assure you, relax your body
hunny.” Caring, and a devoted sister brushed her gentle
fingertips acrossed Maddie’s forehead. “Be calm, please.” Her
loving sister’s embrace became tighter, pulling her closer.
Maddie relaxed in her arms.
Becky stood gradually, moving her arm underneath Maddie’s legs,
and held her like an infant. Bouncing Maddie around, Becky
lowered her head to rest against Maddie’s. Becky was more of a
mother than Maddie’s real biological mother had been, their
mother would leave and come back, and leave again. Maddie and
Becky both knew their mother loved them equally, and always
wanted the best for both of them. Even though there used to be
three children, Carter was the eldest of the three. Becky was
the second eldest, Maddie was the youngest, and since their
biological mother had Carter at such a young age she couldn’t
keep him, her ruthless parent’s forced their mother to get rid
of him. Our biological mother refused, and ran away with our
father to live in a far away place. But once her parent’s
located them after four years later our mother had no choice but
to give Carter to our Aunt Christy. But our grandparent’s didn’t
even know Maddie, and I was born. We only know so little about
Carter. There’ll be a time when we see him again soon, very
soon.
Becky turned around, sitting herself onto Maddie’s bed. She
softly rested right next to Maddie as they both fell asleep, as
hours past by like seconds.

The blackness came so quickly. There was pain then there was
nothing. There was numbness. Black surrounded him like smoke,
forbidding his breathing, and keeping his body from moving from
the lack of oxygen running through his veins. He struggled to
move from this paralytic state. You can do this Carter...Just
wake up. Those surrounding him spoke. Were there people
surrounding him? Carter struggled to move. He struggled to wake
himself of this never ending darkness. His eyes finally
struggled and he could see some light. Color came in slowly of
his vision, though one of his eyes were messed up. It was
swollen. Immediate breaths came to his mouth and air filled his
lungs. The first sound he made was a piercing scream. Pain
overwhelmed him and he shivered from the darkness. He was
finally away from the black, and he was able to move. He could
not keep himself from moving, he opened his eyes and found that
his vision was blurred and he was struggling to know why. All he
knew that it was hurting him to blink. His eyes moved back and
forth as he continued to scream and moving until he fell from
the bed with an immediate drop to the ground making a thump
sound.
"Oww." He said, holding himself as tears came to his eyes. He
was hurting badly and all because JerkFace would not listen to
Mrs. Tea. Settling himself on the ground, he held his arm where
he landed awkwardly and slowly looked up to see who was standing
at the edge of his bed. The man was weird looking to him...but
yet had those oddly familiar features. "Wonderland." He
whispered. It hit him as soon as everything else did. He
remembered being stomped on the head before he blacked out. He
remembered seeing a flash of the man's picture the last time he
was roaming through the colorful world of Wonderland. Tilting
his head, he slowly stood, forgetting about his pain and looked
at the man. "How did you get here, Mister?" He asked quietly,
holding his hands together. His new mother would have his hide
if he was to be speaking of Wonderland. She called it jiberish
before hitting him in the stomach and slapping him across the
face. He could feel the pain overwhelming the already knew
bruises and gashes. It hurt just remembering...His one eye
looked at the man really curious on how he got here if he was
really from Wonderland.
The nurse came in when she noticed that the machine was giving
off beeping sounds in the other room. He tilted his head toward
her. "I'm okay." He whispered. She immediately shook her head.
"You are not mister. Get back into your bed. Your mother would
not have approved of this if she saw your state." The nurse
said, not even giving him a slight tone of affection. Here, they
didn't give affection to him. His new mother forbade them from
doing so. They had to treat him like he was a rotten
teenager...Yet he was only eleven.

he couldn't readily say where he is from. Especially since not
one of the people near him would believe what he'd say. So he

sits there waiting for Carter to come to again. Perhaps he would
just bring Carter with him, back to Wonderland. Not that there
was much wonder to behold anymore.

The woman left the room, a little hesitant to leave the boy with
the strange man. Being such a close person in this town, she
knew that she had never seen him before. After hearing his
answer to how he got there, she was a little worried, but she
had other things to attend to. Carter could handle himself for
the time being.
Carter looked up at the man, seeing after the nurse left that he
was wondering how he had gotten there, besides just walking
there. Being a child, and a child that was close to being a
teenager, he was a little worried about even bringing up
Wonderland. He was made fun of because of his ever changing
world of "Wonderland." Looking at the man, he crossed his arms.
"Wonderland?" He asked, wondering what the man was going to tell
him. He was expecting a weird look, but he had a feeling by the
look in his eyes and the way that he spoke that he was not from
anywhere else BUT Wonderland. He settled back into his sheets as
he knew that if the nurse came by again and saw him out his bed,
his hide would be tanned by the palm of her hands...His 'mother'
would have allowed it too.
It made him a little weary in the process...

13 watches as the woman walks out of the room, of course he'd
expect the little boy to mention wonderland one the woman was
gone. Just when he thought the boy had forgotten all about it he
hears the word slip through the boys lips once more. He sighs
knowing that no one would be around for awhile. "Yes I come from
Wonderland, if the name is even befitting what it has become.
Some how I wound up in this place" he looks toward the skies
wondering why this place looks so different then wonderland, why
it's skies were blue like the way wonderland's used to be. But
now they were thick and murky, while this place retained the
beautiful blue glow 13 was used to.
