Re: Detia and Mearad

Watching her twin pace back and forth, Detia offered a sad
smile. "I can't help you there. I mean, I could. I could tell
you all about our life. But I don't think it's kind of childhood
anyone would want to remember." Unknowingly, Tia reached down to
fiddle with the serrated edge of her dress, letting out a sigh.
Looking into eyes that no longer matched her own, she shook her
head and looked away, the lost trait just another thing she had
lost without warning. Not wanting to make things awkward, Tia
smiled her fake, but well practiced smile, not bothering to make
the false emotion reach her eyes. Her voice teetered upward in
pitch as she spoke, dripping with cheeriness that made her
slightly nauseous, but usually appealed to people. "You know,
with the red hair and green eyes, you'd fit in perfectly in
Ireland. Ever been? It's a little too campy for me, at least the
countryside, but the accents are so charming." What she said was
true, despite it only being said aloud for the sake of
distraction. Yes, they might have been practically joined at the
hip as babies, and literally been through Hell together, but
this woman was almost a stranger to her now.
Somehow, the more she thought about it, the guiltier Tia felt
about withholding her twin's life from her. She was well within
the capabilities to show her twin her entire childhood, and it
should be Dani's decision what she did and did not know.
Growling under her breath, she balled her hands into fists and
battled with herself for a moment over her next course of
action. After a moment of muttering to herself, and a good deal
of hissing, she shook her head in exasperation and looked back
at Dani. Her eyes fixed steadily on the girl's, her tone
entirely business like after years as the only socially
acceptable member of their family and therefore the PR for the
entire royal court. "If you really must know about our- Your
childhood, I can....Show you. I won't promise you that it's all
bluebirds and butterflies, much of it was actually kind of
devastating for us. But it's your choice, albeit a poor one in
my opinion, if you want to relive it." Swallowing in an attempt
to moisten her throat which was suddenly oddly dry, she pursed
her lips and waited, watching the woman.

With a smile Mearad shook her head as she continued to pace back
and forth. Her feet itched to move and wonder. She wanted,
needed, to ask, to be told, shown, and taken to the place of her
childhood. If there was something she loathed more than anything
else in the world it was the not knowing who she was. To not
know where she came from and the events of her life that led her
to where she is now nagged at her, making her feet itch to
wonder and follow whoever the wind may take her. It made her
restless, made her throw away all the things that had brought
joy to her life. Her feet stopped moving, her head tilted to the
side as she watched Tia, and a frown crept upon her face.
Squatting down in front of Tia, so to not talk above her, she
looked her in the eyes, the same eyes she knew she had once
shared, “Ireland? I’m more of a England person myself …” The
sentence trailed off, her frown only deepening as she thought of
her time spent within that continent. With another shake of her
head she pushed those memories away, they could be remembered
another day. A smile tugged at her lips as she raised an eyebrow
at the girl, “However, there really is no need to pretend joy or
happiness. That practice becomes useless and annoying after a
while.” With a shrug of her shoulder’s she stood back up,
continuing her pacing, “Jumping back to an earlier topic, I
sincerely doubt I would find my childhood any more horror filled
than I do the life I recall living.”
She frowned to herself as she recalled the words she had just
spoken, and the actions she had just done. There were things she
would normally do or say, but they seemed more amplified and the
other side of her missing for the time being. She would have to
make amends for them later because right now she could almost
hold the thing she so desperately wanted. It was the thought,
the idea, of getting so close to learning another snippet of who
she was that made her this way. Her body was filled with energy
and a tension she desperately wanted to get rid of. As she
paced back and forth, back and forth, her emerald green eyes
watched the girl. She watched as Tia fought with herself over
something, watched as frustration took over her. Mearad didn’t
need to ask or beg to be learned in the thing that was her,
their, past. This girl was trying to talk herself into it. A
small smile crept upon her lips as she watched and saw all of
this, despite not knowing her Mearad could already see that they
were indeed siblings. Her pacing came to a stop again, her lips
turned into a smile that infected her eyes along with it. “I
make a living with poor choices. I also tend to go by what my
curiosity demands to know. So, please, let’s go on this little
field trip.”

A true, brilliant smile lit up Tia's face at her twin's
proposal, although Dani was behind her at the moment and could
not see her expression. It would be unpleasant at points, but in
the few moments it had taken Dani to think, she had thought of
an incredibly entertaining way to spin this little adventure. A
delighted smile crossed her face, and she tapped her fingers
together as she grinned, the perfect pose of an evil genius on
the brink of discovery, although this was merely her expression
of joy, and occasionally psychosis. Turning to her twin with a
flourish, she batted her eyelashes and asked with barely
contained glee, "Hey stunt double....Are you still fireproof?"
Not waiting for the answer, which she already knew, she grabbed
Dani's hand in a secure hold, not quite tight enough to hurt,
and snapped her fingers near one of the shreds of her dress, the
resulting spark igniting it like a fuse. Tia looked at her twin,
mouthing a three-two-one countdown as the fuse got closer and
closer to her body. Tearing her eyes away from the pretty green
she had come to accept as just part of her sister, she looked up
into the sky. On spark-to-skin contact, Detia exploded into her
meteor-like travelling form, her sister fused harmlessly to her
for safety. Shooting up into the sky, into deep space in a
matter of seconds, Detia had no conscious thought at the moment,
but could control where she went. Heading for their now
abandoned place of birth, she tumbled down into the front lawn
of the palace in a fiery gust, although here it had little
effect on the white-hot grass, which was permanently burning.
Taking the few minutes to reform as a being, she turned to Dani.
"This.... This was your home. Our home. You're a princess, er,
were, when there was still a stable royal family to speak of."
Not able to look directly at the house, filled with disgust just
being near it, Tia gestured her forward, talking as her twin
walked and she shuffled, never taking her eyes off the ground.
As they passed through each room, Tia would gently pull Dani to
a stop in the middle of the room and play little memories for
her in their minds, telepathically. Memories of learning to walk
together, occasionally pushing each other down trying to stay
balanced. The times when everyone else was too busy being
trained to torture or kill or entice, when they could only light
sparks. Being teased for not having a 'real power,' as fire was
found in human elementals. The day they first stood up to their
brothers and sisters, and... No. Abruptly, as the memory was
playing through of the last time they had seen each other,
before Dani had been whisked away with little explanation, only
that she was no longer part of the family, it stopped. Tia
stood, stony faced and angry, much like her four year old self
when the incident had happened, and shook her head. "I can't do
this anymore. I'm sorry. Hunt down the rest of our family if you
want more of a detailed story." She fought back tears, and
grumbled as one rebel drop streaked down her cheek.

“I will never drag myself out of this,” headphones lay draped
across a girl’s neck, filling the once empty stone hall with
music, “The shadows of my past bogging me down.” Ice blue eyes
stare up at the incomplete stained glass window. Her head tilts,
causing the red hair to fall across her face, as she traces the
lines, trying to piece together what it once was in the time of
glory and prosperity. “Feeling lost in turmoil and crisis,” Her
bare feet moved side to side keeping track of the beat as her
legs hung over the side of the throne. “My face forever set in
an endless frown,” She sat up, her face alight as the puzzle
came together, the image set within the now destroyed started to
come together and look in the days when it was new. “I have been
hurt beyond mental repair,” leaning back against the arm of the
throne the girl sat there listening to the music that filled the
empty stone hall of her home and the used to be kingdom of
Inferi “Thence destined to suffer eternal damnation,” A sigh
passed through the pink lips her boredom becoming apparent.
“Feeling lost in turmoil and crisis,” How long was she supposed
to wait here? How much longer was her Alice going to take to
follow the White Rabbit down that rabbit hole? “But without I
will never find salvation,” her ears catch the sound of
movement. A smile creeps across her face, “Oh, Alice, it took
you long enough to fall down the rabbit hole.” Her voice was
barely a whisper as she spoke in the silence of the room, her
fingers had long since moved across the screen to shut the music
off. “Shall we continue our little game, Alice?”
Mearad looked at her sister, her head tilted to the side.
Breathing in she opened her mouth, but instead closed it without
uttering a word. She lacked the ability to comfort her twin and
so she did the next best thing she knew how to do, disappear,
“I’m going to take a look around …” And with that Mearad found
herself outside within the once beautiful garden. It was a place
that loomed in the background of every dream and nightmare that
she ever had. Her cheek resting against the rough black stone
she stood there listening, imagining, what this place had been
like before in a time when this land was still alive. A smile
tugged at the blood red of her lips as she heard the sounds,
smelled the smells, and felt the people move about her. The
smile fell as a thought occurred to her, these things that she
was imagining where to strong and real to be mere products of
her mind. Opening her eyes the images of the past disappeared
before her like sand in the wind. They had been illusions,
things made to seem real to those who looked upon them. Her
heart twisted with fear as a face burned within her mind, the
same face she had seen smiling before it disappeared with the
rest: Kalma. “Tia …” Her voice cracked out of fear as she ran
lost through the halls of the empty castle. “Tia …?”

Detia wandered through the halls, her footsteps echoing
hauntingly, bouncing into each other and multiplying. The once
proud, beautiful woman had to fight the urge to run screaming
from the castle now. But then she heard music coming from one of
the rooms, and picked up the pace. 'So much for this being a
deserted castle,' she mused begrudgingly. Jogging to the only
open door, she peered in, a smirk playing across her face as she
recognized the girl in the room. She strode into the room with
the gait of a runway model, her head held high, her eyes never
leaving her neice. A worry for Dani crossed her mind, as Detia
realized she would be vulnerable to Neuge's mind power shit, as
she so lovingly referred to it. She settled herself across from
her sister, and leaned her elbow on the table, her chin balanced
on her palm as she eyed her sister with an amused grin. "Feeling
a little emo, being here all by yourself, Mindfucker?" Sure,
Detia could have tried to start anew, offered to re-introduce
her to Dani. But a sick feeling in her stomach told her she was
already aware of the long lost twin drama. A scream
reverberating through the castle, her name, confirmed the fear.
Remaining calm, save for the ball of anger that had been
sparked, Detia's face went from Jekyl to Hyde as she growled,
"Stop it. Now. I don't give a shit what kind of self-serving
bitchfest mood you're in, but leave Dan- Mearad alone." Although
the raw rage and protective aura coming off Detia would've
scared the living shit out of a normal person, she knew Neuge
was quite different. The furious young woman launched herself
out of the chair and spat, "I'll be back for you," before
storming off to find her twin. Pity, and possibly a twin-sense
type of panic rose in her chest. She felt like she had been
running for hours before she ran into Rad.
With a quick explanation of Neuge, and what was going on, Detia
faced her twin, silent for a moment. "What.. What would you like
to do? Personally I want to beat the shit out of her, but
somehow you seem a little more peaceful than that. She's only
gonna be able to f- Screw with you, so it's your call." Inwardly
cursing her parents, and Neuge, and anyone else she could blame
for the little brat's existence, Tia had also noticed she had
slowly gotten more protective of her twin. It made her ache a
little, knowing it was a subconscious effort to pay her back for
protecting her all those years ago. But right now, she needed to
do what Rad asked of her. Detia's eyes had gone nearly charcoal
black in her anger, and were just now returning to a sunset red
as she watched her twin's face for a sign of what she was
thinking.

With a roll of my eyes I look at the women who bounded in as if
she was still a queen of this shit hole Inferi. She acted as if
she was still held power and beauty, the very things she hadn’t
held in so long. It was a sight that would make anyone laugh
themselves in hysterics, anyone but me. I had to keep my
composure, emotions are only things that would get in the way
and ruin the plan that been set into motion so many years ago.
“How cute, has the bitch finally gained enough courage to pull
that tail from between her legs? I wonder why that is?” The
familiar feeling of my ice blue eyes changing to a darker blue,
indicating my amusement and wonder, never fails to bring a smile
to my face. “So that’s it, isn’t it? It’s all because of Mearad.
It’s always because of that girl. You feel the need to protect
her, how cute.” I tilt my head to the side allowing the red hair
that marks all of Inferi’s children to fall across my face like
a bloody waterfall. Tapping my finger to my chin, “But I wonder
how long she’ll stay by your side? You do realize she’s a very
fickle and broken person, bound to run the other direction and
leave without warning. That happens quit and bit doesn’t it?
People leaving you without warning?”
Leaning back against the arm of my throne I look back up at the
ceiling already bored with the conversation, “Subtlety,
something you fire users never have or will ever be able to
grasp. You allow your emotions to rule you and rarely, if ever,
use your heads in battle. It is not my fault dearest Detia that
I was born with a power that requires a deeper understanding of
the world around me.” I let the conversation lapse into silence.
I fight the urge to shift in my seat with discomfort and to turn
the beautiful music back on. There were things worse than
talking to the queen bitch and that was silence itself. It
marked an end to all things; even death has a sound if one
listened close enough. A grin pulls my lips from ear to ear as a
fearful scream echoes through the halls, “Before you leave
wonderful Aunt of mine, please know that I do not fuck other’s
minds. They do that everyday with their own free will.” And so I
was left to sit there and wait as I have been doing for more
years than I can remember. My guiding hand finally led my Alice
and her White Rabbit to this place. All I had to do now was wait
for I already know what it is Mearad would choose to do.
Mearad leaned against stone wall demanding her self to calm
down. What was she five years old again and afraid of the
monsters that supposedly lived beneath her bed? No, she wasn’t.
She was a women older than time cared to remember, somebody time
would love to forget about it. Sliding down the wall she allowed
the rough stone to bit into her skin and tear at her skin. With
a grimace she started to twirl her beloved dagger through her
fingers. The simple act of doing that, twirling the sharp blade,
calmed her down immensely. This blade that had bitten into her
flesh more than any others was just another relic of this
forgotten place. Leaning her head against the wall she began to
laugh. Everything she owned, everything that she was, always
pointed back to this place. It was as if life had put a leash
around her neck and slowly has been pulling her in this
direction. With a quick shake of her head she stood up,
determined to find her way back to her twin. Before she could
even more an inch she saw Tia, “Found me before I could even
begin looking …” With another shake of her head she listened to
what her twin had to say, her smile forever growing a little
wider. “Come now, there’s not much more she could do to me. I’m
no longer that scared child whose forever alone.” Her feet
started to carry her in the direction that Tia had just came
from, her dagger still being twirled, “I keep living to find
people like you and her. People who know of me and my past. So
let’s go talk to her.”

Detia's well-defined eyebrows shot up, and she had to fight to
keep her jaw from dropping. "Talk?! You.... Want to talk....
Hmm..." But as she thought about it, and the blaze in her mood
calmed, she accepted the choice her twin made. Taking a deep
breath, she promised herself she would be as bi-polar as she
wanted toward her niece, but would let the girl and her twin
develop their own relationship. Besides, she knew her niece
recognized she was merely playing a game and didn't take real
offense. Shaking out her curls, she rolled her shoulders back
and titled her chin upward, every motion smoothed into one
seamless sequence that radiated confidence. "C'mon," she
murmured, addressing her twin. But as soon as she approached the
doorway, a brilliant smile lit up her face, her eyes brimming
with friendliness and cheer, and sharp 180° turn in attitude
from their meeting before. Gently pushing the door open, she
popped her head in, waggling her fingers at her niece who had
gone back to relaxing. Opening the door the rest of the way, she
walked in with the same grasp of a royal entrance, and patted
Neuge's head, yanking a small chunk of hair rather roughly
before sitting down in the seat she had occupied before, the
well-meaning smile never leaving her face. Lucky thing the young
girl couldn't get in her mind.
Gesturing at Mearad/Dani with a nod of her head, Detia spoke
with perfected charm and calm. "Sorry about our incident before.
This is Mearad. My sister. She wants to know more about her
childhood, and having your perspective would be much
appreciated. Of course, we don't expect to have to rely on
someone so... Out of tune with the world... But whatever you can
say would be wonderful. Anything you'd like to say, Rad?"
Glancing over at her twin, Tia blinked, genuinely curious about
what she wanted to know.

With a soft laugh and a nod of head her feet began to carry her
in the direction her twin had come from, “Of course, I think
I’ve seen enough violence to last me the rest of eternity.”
Mearad continued to walk down the long corridor, a tune on her
lips as she hummed. The way the sounds of her feet hitting the
ground and the hummed tune bounced against the stone walls was
beautiful and hypnotizing. It was something that made her want
to simple roam the halls and corridors until she tired or till
the end of days came. How simple and nice that would be, to just
simple wonder with no worries about anyone or anything in this
world. But she couldn’t allow her life to be that way, there was
no fun in that, and so her feet stopped, her tune quieted, as
she come to an option – turn right or left. “Hey, uh, Tia, which
way is it?” She smiled sheepishly as her twin took the lead,
forever was Mearad directionally challenged. It was still a
wonder that she always managed to find her way back to Crudele
after she always left … ran away … from that place she called
home. Her lips curled into a smile as she remembered the first
day she had been inside the Crudele Castle. She had gotten lost
going between the kitchen and the stud where her and Dies where
studying. It had felt like she was lost for, and for all she
knew it could have been, eons before someone finally lead her
back in the right direction. The memories faded as they came to
a grand door that Tia just threw open without a second glance or
hesitation. It made Mearad flinch a little, the doors where
beautiful, silver metal with the image of a dragon carved into
it, how could someone simple just throw them open with first
admiring their beauty? With a shake of her head she moved
forward and took a seat amongst the mismatched chairs of the
room. “… Just tell me anything that you can.”
With a glare my eyes followed Tia as she moved around the room.
Anger flared up within me as I felt a hand yank my hair. It was
moments like this that made me want to regress back to the age I
was and the child I never could have been. I wanted to yell at
her with all the angst and hatred a teenager usually does, but
instead I just sat there and said nothing. She saw it as a game,
and so I let it stay that way in her mind. Just a game. A game
that continually hurts the player. “When someone sits in
complete silence they begin to hear noises that aren’t truly
there. Turn the light off or dim them enough a person will begin
to see movements amongst the shadows to accompany these noises.”
My gaze wonders around the room, where these two and this place
simply my imagination? Was I somewhere locked away without sight
or sound? With a sigh I shake my self doubts away and close my
eyes from the world; this was not the time or place for unwanted
sights and thoughts. “These are illusions that a person creates
for themselves, it’s the bases of what those who can create and
manipulate illusions have to first understand and study.
Illusions are ….” The sentence drifts off as I feel a soft jab
of a finger into my side and the feeling of someone hovering
above me. I open my eyes to the sight of the ceiling and empty
air so far above me. “Sorry … I know more about illusions and
their inner workings than I do about your life. But there is one
thing I can tell you, and that’s about Kalma.” With a glance
over at Tia I choose my next words carefully, there was no need
to spill the secrets so soon and carelessly. “Tell me, has this
Queen B over here told you that … Alistair created your illusion
of Kalma to torment you? What if I were to tell you that such a
statement is both correct and false, that Kalma is both real and
not real at the same time, he’s a paradox such as other beings
that walk upon this earth?”

For once holding her tongue, purely out of curiosity, Detia
waited until the younger girl had finished. Shaking her head, a
cynical laugh tittered from her lips, and she turned her
merciless gaze on Neuge. "Please. If you're going to tell her
about her life, at least for one teeny second could you speak
without coating everything in overly dramatic bullshit? Thanks.
I'd like to not have to spend hours editing all the lies from
whatever you have to say. Now. Carry on." Fixing Neuge with a
brief scowl, she sighed tiredly and turned to Rad, murmuring an
apology. Personally, she would have never wanted to be part of
this upside down, turned every which way family, but she
understood wanting to know about her past. Not to mention, Detia
had brought her here. Of course, she hadn't known Neuge was
here, as they clearly were not on friendly terms, but some
things could not be avoided. Still, she supposed she was allowed
to have her fun. She tilted her head, looking at Neuge as the
girl spoke, and mimed various nasty hand motions at her,
including but not limited to shaving the girl's head, slitting
her throat, insinuating that her breasts were inflatable and
could be popped, and lastly, flipping her off. Giggling into her
hand, she coughed to cover it and whispered, "Sorry, I don't
know what came over me!"
