Sakura never let her guard down, as much as she wanted to, she
never had the time in the day to. When Gais spoke to her, she
gritted her teeth. That wasn't supposed to happen, he wasn't
supposed to see her melt down like that. She was stronger than
this! Taking in a deep breath she smiled, and nodded. "You're
quite right." Slowly standing up, she dusted invisible dirt of
her jeans that clung to her skin. "Sorry that you had to witness
that.." She gave him a shy smile, and plunged her hands into the
front pockets of her jeans. "So, what exactly made you want to
go look for stars?" A soft yawn, taking her lips, as she smiled
at him.

She recovered faster than Gais could even express real concern.
To be bathed in the dim sadness that poured from her heart only
to have a shade pulled upon that window was frustrating to a man
who spent so much time looking for the lights around him... The
fallen fragments of emotion that had scattered along the earth
were his muse and his reason for living, after all.
His face furrowed with worry at that false smile, and though he
wanted to pursue it further Gais knew that Sakura herself was
the only one that could lift the mask from her face. "Well... I
miss them," he admitted quietly, "They used to all be there in
the sky... but now they hide from humankind."

For a minute, as Sakura looked at Gais, his image blurred. She
squinted her eyes, in case she was just seeing things. But, his
image kept fogging up. Slowly she reached up and rubbed her eyes
with her knuckles; dropping her hands to her side, she looked at
him again, but she didn't see Gais. In her eyes, all she saw was
James. Her heart fell to the floor and her throat grew dry.
"J-James?" Suddenly his image blurred again, and she saw Gais.
She took a deep breath, listening to what he was saying. She
laughed. "Well, at least you can miss something..." Sakura
titled her head, allowing her brown hair to fall freely down her
back. "I can't even miss a single." She knew it was a lie and
she had a feeling he'd know too.

This time, Gais was ready for that dry, rattling breath that
pulled hard against Sakura's throat and as she seemed to grow
faint with the blurring lines of reality, He grasped her firmly
with both hands. Arms seemed almost clammy under his grip, as if
sorrow clung to her very skin, and the warmth that filled Gais
was pulled to that. He stopped her underneath the night sky,
still clinging to the hollowness in her laugh, and just started
to wonder what had made her this way. What was that distant look
in her eyes searching for?
