Jethias looked at him cheerfully. With a quick huff he
turned to follow the man, awkwardly crashing through the brush
as if unintentionally screaming his position to whatever
predator or dark creation that lurked through the dense-jungle.
"So, the name's Jethias. I never caught yours, though I
suppose a thanks should be in order. Right? Ok. Umm... .
.How did you heal me in the first place? Was it magic? My
father said magic is evil. All it causes is suffering. I
guess that doesn't matter, you saved me, no ill intent, so thank
you. Where are we by the way? And do you know where your
going? And how did you find me? Although maybe a better
question is what are you doing in the middle of . . . .well,
this place wherever this place is. You know I don't even
know how I got here. All I remember was passing through some
mist at the base of the foothills of Amer-roth, and bam, I find
myself in this cursed land. I don't suppose you know where the
City of Calroth is? That's where I am headed, training to
become a knight I will be."
Jethias continued rambling on about how his father had
died, what he warned Jethias to be cautious of, the wars in the
Southern lands of his home, Abeh-rohn, and all about what his
family was like that the subtle yet strange events that led him
to where they were now. During his chatter, he lost the pain
that racked his body, he forgot about the sorrows of his losses,
and for once in a very long time, felt genuinely happy.

During the boys tirade of questions, Dracierous had stopped;
shoulders shaking with frustrated laughter, "Gods... Why? What
did I do to deserve this?" With a quick motion, he turned to
face the kid, his finger poking his chest to stop Jethias from
bumping into him. "First off, walk quieter. Secondly, no more
talking. Thirdly, I have an idea of where I am going. Oh, and
stop smiling. It's creepy." If this is what his ancestors had to
put up with, he was not surprised they had sacrifices. Sighing,
he turned back around and continued his trek through the dense
wood, cursing in Old Norse when his clothes snagged. "Alistair.
It was magic, yes. It is not evil, but the intent behind it can
be. It's all about how one uses it. Like that sword; it's just
an instrument of your beliefs and intent. You must believe in it
for it to work, the magic that is. Like faith, only stronger,
and more real. Granted, I will admit to having seen some pretty
awe-inspiring things with faith." Great, now he was babbling
like a fool! He sighed and continued on talking despite what he
told the idiot following him. "I have used magic with ill-intent
before, and have it used on me with ill-intent. That being said,
I wasn't always this... pale." The word was spat out, in disgust
and... shame? Smoke billowed out of his nostrils as his
self-anger fumed within. "A mistake that should've never
happened, but I was arrogant and young, invincible, as it were.
Which, in a sense, is true." Stopping briefly, he looked left
and right, then went left.
"We are in the realm of the Demon God of Eight, Romulus. The
bastard is cunning but I will get him. By the gods above and
below, I shall have him." For a brief instant, his body shifted,
flickering to that of a taller being; silver hair growing darker
as well as the pallor of his skin. But, though this image faded
after its brief exposure, his shadow had changed: wings stretch
forth from the shadow-body, two swords clenched in fists, though
his hands remained emptied and open. A faint haze warps around
the shadow. "In any case, I just want a drink. And a wench or
two." He shrugged. "What about you? Is that all you plan to do
with your life? Become a knight? Why?"

Jethias flinched as he felt the man's finger press sternly
against his chest.
"Why should I walk quieter? It'd only make me slower.
Besides I think I can handle a few woodland creatures!" The
boy patted his blade in reassurance before beaming cheerily at
the other man. He listened Dracierous heartily, interested in
learning more about this new-found friend of his.
"Alistair huh? Funny name. Is it common where you come
from? Mine isn't particularly; my parents named me Jethias
after my Great uncle's war-mate, the man who had saved his life
during the seven-year purge. They thought it to bring me good
fortune. Ha! So for that! Only if they could see me now."
The boy did not reply to the other's statement on magic.
He didn't want to bring the subject to matter. He did not want
to create suspicion of his own power. A power too dark to be
released. A power too great to control. Magic was evil and
to Jethias it would remain that way for many days to come.
During the seemingly innocent chatter, Jethias began to slip
into the recess of his mind, back to that unforgettable day, the
day they came. The day he lost his Father. Although his
memory--his attention--had traversed back into time, resurfacing
old pains; he held that carefree attitude on the outside, all
too well.

He shook his head, "Trust me, kid. I wouldn't want to tangle
with these "woodland" creatures as you so casually put. No,
these are demons, in the literal sense. Weak, yes, but fast,
strong, and resilient. But, when you have been around as long as
I have, you learn a few things." That and his magic was stronger
than it was hundreds of years ago, more refined; he had been
afraid he wouldn't've been able to rein in his other half after
it decided to force itself in, but it had gone back to slumber
quite easily. Or not so easily, as it still stirred, waiting to
pounce. "And they come in groups, mostly. They look normal until
they, well, don't. Kind of gross to watch, actually." He
shuddered, hand rubbing his stomach. "It is... not so common
anymore." Letting the silence rein, though his muscles flinched
with each of Jethias's clumsy steps. Alistair's brows twitched
in annoyance before he muttered beneath his breath to deaden the
boys blundering. Ah, that's better. He pulled a cigarette from
his inside jacket pocket and rested it between his lips, though
he didn't light it, despite this smoke still came out of his
slightly opened mouth and nostrils. One of the things that gave
away what he was, or half of what he was, but what was one
monster compared to another? Because he could control his urges?
Ha! As if. The beast within merely allowed him to ride front
seat. Alistair was powerless beside it. He glanced back at the
kid, noticing the seemingly care-free attitude and chuckling to
himself, "Awful quiet back there, Jethias. Tell me more of your
homeland; it is curious indeed."
