AS she ordered him to sit, he did obeidantly, still remaining
quiet. Everything she was saying, was true, and he could do
nothing to dissaude that fact. He had unintentionally insulted
her, and it hurt to think about, the last thing he had wated was
to upset Srytka, to make her seem weak, and embarrass her.
Looking at her he could see the streaks on her cheek from her
crying. Shaking his head, he looked at her, "Sry... I didn''t
mean to... The last thing I want is to undermine you in
anyway.." He stated so softly she barely heard it. When she set
her hand on his shoulder, he reached up to take it then stopped,
he wouldn't do anything until she was down, as she was talking
about the fact the men were scared, a man came throug the tent
enttrance. Informing Srykf neww about Ccade, and the fact that
the King would planb the atack or soon, the man. If there was
one thing Whelan did know what to do, it was fighting in the
       woods.
Standing up, he stepped up to Srytka, before she could push him
away, he wrapped her in a tight hug, and did nothing else. "Sry,
you are a great leader, you are right, I don't know more than
you. I wasn't trying to embarrasss you, I would never dream of
it." He explained softly, feeling her try and push him back, but
he continued holding her, his arms strong around her shoulders.
"I will follow what comamands you have to give me. I am yours to
command, Sry." He stated, pulling back.
Lettingher go, he rolled his shoulders, andflexed hisa hands,
"About this attaack that is to come... If you don't mind, I have
a few ideas." He offered, she could very well tell him to screw
off, and just listen to her, and if she did, he would. Srytka
didn't want stepping on her toes and he wouldn't. No, Whelan had
another goal in mind, he could feel how much this had damaged
their returning relationship, so he would simply do as she
ordered, and would work on getting her to care for im again.
Pausing he reached into his coat and pulled out an object
wrapped in clothe, but when he unfolded it it was just the
clothe he was holding. It was a small red banner,m with a dragon
head on it, handing it to her he winked, "Nothing beats the Red
Knight, not even the Blue Knight you were so found of when we
were kids." Pausing he took the clothe back and looked at her,m
"Sry, consider me your Blue Knight, except not even the Red
Knight will stop me, from carrying out your orders." With that,
he turned and started to walk towards the tent flap.

She spoke, telling him how his actions were backfiring in her
face. Her face was emotionless but there were still tears
running down her face besides the fact that she wiped them away
when she turned to look at him. He would be the only one to see
her like this. No one else. Standing there, she touched her
fingers to her lips as she caught a glance of him in the mirror,
but he was looking somewhere else and did not meet her eyes.
Taking a deep breath, she rested her fingers against his
shoulder and gave the last part of her talking. She gave him
time to speak, give his apologies. She knew that this was coming
her way. Nodding her head, she spoke. "I know you didn't." She
tilted her head. "Now you know to not bother me with certain
things." She said quietly and turned her hand away from him and
crossed her arms over her chest when the man came in with news.
She nodded her head, taking it all in. "Thank you." Then she
sent the man off to tell the men to prepare. They had weapons to
make, armor to build, and minds to focus on the plan at hand.
This was going to be difficult. Especially with Hughe no longer
       around...
When the man left, she suddenly felt arms pull her into a hug.
She had no time to react and she couldn't seem to pull away
either. He was holding her there, as if she was hostage. His
words soothed her for the time being, but now he was just being
a kiss ass. She rolled her eyes and giggled a little bit. "Thank
you for trying to make me feel better." She tilted her head as
she looked back up at him. "Anything to get on my good side,
huh?" She said with a smile before she finally pulled away after
he released her. She felt the warmth of his arms retreat from
her shoulders and she turned her head toward the table where she
laid out maps of the forest around them to seem like she wasn't
affected by his hug. Even though, damn, she was. As she was
distracted, she heard his words of speaking that he had a few
ideas. "Maybe. It might help with how the king's men were taught
to come into the forest because I want to use that to our
advantage. I will have to start training them." She said quietly
before she shifted her feet looking down at the map. They were
pretty far from the kingdom all together, which gave them a fair
amount of room to prepare and set up weaponry within the thick
       trees and canopy.
As she looked upon the map, thinking of the many ways that the
King's men could come in and counter acting the attacks with her
own motions. Smiling to herself, she looked ahead before she
could hear a movement of fabric. Her head turned and she could
hear his words as well as see the banner that he held out in
front of him. He spoke of them being little and she was so fond
of the blue knight, only because it matched her eyes. Though,
Whelan was set on being the Red One and matched it with her
because of her fiery red hair. She shook her head and took hold
of the banner. "I can't believe you still have this. After all
these years. I was surprised that they even let you keep this.
They would have had my hide if I even showed up with this
thing." She smiled at him and he said that he would be her blue
knight...the one that could not handle the red knight if she
came around. A soft blush came to her cheeks as she nodded her
head. "Thank you, Whelan." She said softly, watching him leave
the tent. She didn't want him to go, but she didn't want to give
him all the confidence that she was his just yet. She needed to
play it out to see if he could handle her during War.
Her eyes looked ahead at the maps and she soon picked up pieces
that she had set aside neatly and began planning different
attacks. Pushing around some ideas, she finally came up with
some, but she knew that she would need to bring in Whelan to
look at them to give her the most likely plan that would play
out, though she needed to be prepared for all.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Walking out of Sry's tent, Whelan had to keep his head down, so
no one saw the slight smile on his face. Things had actually
gone surprisingly well during the exchange. Though the thought
of a fight put a dark cloud of the rekindling relationship
between himself and Srytka, he realized now that the
relationship, if anything happened, would be a secret. She
probably felt that if they were seen together as anything more
than friends, and comrades, it would undermine her leadership,
and Whelan would not risk that. This rebellion was her idea, and
he wanted nothing to do with running it, he would be Srytka's
tool when needed, and friend when she didn't. After all, Whelan
was a weapon, best used in the forest, she had spoke of training
her men, and Whelan knew he could help. He could teach them to
become better archers, and how to disappear. Walking towards his
tent, as he thought, he was interrupted when he heard his
stomache growl. Lowering his gaze he nodded, "I concur./" He
stated to himself, then turned and walked towards the cook tent.
Strolling in he went up and grabbed a loaf of bread, a wedge of
cheese, two mugs, a small wine jug, and a large portion od
venison. Walking out he smiled to himself, he did not know when
Sry had eaten last, and after the trouble he had caused today he
was sure she could use some food. Walking by her tent, he
paused, made sure no one was looking and slipped back inside,
setting the food on an empty table he poured some wine into a
goblet, and walked over to Srytka, her back still to him.
Setting the drink near her hand he looked at the maps, and
absently stated, "I thought you might be hungry, so I brought
you food." L;ooking at one map her traced a path on it with his
finger, an idea forming in his mind.
"Hey Sry... this trail here... it leads right through this rise,
leaving a steep hill on both sides.... We could put archers on
those hills, and have a few men lead the King's soldiers through
there..." He stated, allowing her to catch on to his idea, and
figure the rest out. Taking a drink from his own wine, he leaned
on the table, "It would help lessen their numbers, and buy us
more time..." Looking at her, he gave her a soft smile, and
shrug, "Anyways, go eat... I haven't seen you eat anything at
all today..." His tone was concerned as he stared at her. His
eyes never left hers, as he stared her down, when she finally
went to get some of the food he brought, a small, child like
       smile of victory.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Srytka stared at the plans, seeing the maps of the forest. They
had quite a bit of room between the kingdom and the campsite,
and she wanted to keep it that way. She didn't want the kingsmen
coming into their territory without her plan considering it. She
leaned heavy against the table, closing her eyes for a moment,
she needed to breathe and take this all in. Her stomach began to
tighten and knot up, making everything worse, but adding to the
pain was the growl of her stomach. She considered going to the
cook tent and get some food, but she would wait, getting the
scraps of whatever the men had not eaten. She would like them
well fed before herself. She needed strong men to fight by her
side, and she would be okay with scraps. Opening her eyes, she
leaned forward to press her elbows to the top of the table and
stared at the maps. She could see openings where the kingsmen
would come in and how to block them.
Her sights caught onto the river, if she remembered correctly
there was a ledge there. She could use that to her advantage,
but how would she be able to make sure that the kings men got
there? She smiled to herself. Lothar would have a ball chasing
the kingsmen into a trap. Smiling, she soon heard the flap of
her tent open. "I do not want to be interrupted." She said with
a sigh as she rubbed her face. When she opened her eyes and
uncovered her face, she saw the wine jug and a mug there already
filled with wine. Her eyes opened a little more and she was
about to speak when Whelan spoke, telling her that he thought
that she might need food. Her eyes went over the wine glass and
she picked it up, putting it to her lips. As she did so, his
fingers touched the map, explaining that they could use the
ledge. She nodded her head. "The only problem with that
situation is making sure that the kingsmen come that way in the
first place. It is the most direct route, but in case they
decide to go in a different direction, I need a group that would
be able to chase them into the trap." She said, holding the mug
       into both of her hands.
Looking down, she nodded, considering his plan, when he came to
a stop and told her that she needed to eat. She sighed heavily,
turning her head. "I usually eat the scraps. The men need to be
well fed in order to keep up." She smiled at him, taking another
sip of her wine. "I will be fine. You eat." She began to hear
his stomach growl. 'I will eat what you don't." She smiled at
him and turned her head and attention back to the maps. Pulling
out the figures, she set them on the maps in a way of how to
arrange them in just a way that they would win. She sighed a
little bit, considering that she didn't know which way they were
going to be coming in. Her eyes fluttered over and she began to
see trails that had been led from the other side as well. "I
need people in the trees mostly. Most of the kingsmen won't
really be trained for gorilla tactics, but more of hand to hand
combat with their fancy swords." She said with a soft sigh.

Listening to her talk, Whelan nodded, as he tore off a piece of
bread, and cut off a slice of meat. "Hmm... give me five men,
that can move quietly in the woods, and are good with a bow, and
I'll get those soldiers wherever you need, Sry." He stated, then
slipping an arm around her waist he pulled her away from the man
table, and gave her a push towards the food. "I am not very
hungry. You eat." He stated, then took a bite of the food in his
hand, and washed it down with a sip of wine. Then when she tried
to go back to the table with out any food, he stepped in her
way, when she went to move around him he stepped in her way
again. The smile that played on his face was like a stubborn
little kid. Taking another drink he stared down at her and
finally stated, "I'm not moving until I see food in your hands,
       and mouth."
When she finally had food, he stepped out of his way and looked
back at the maps, as he stared. Swallowing he tapped where it
showed the ledge, "How high is this?" He asked, then explained
why he was wondering. "My men and I can lead them to this ledge,
we hold out of a lttle while, then as they close, we use ropes
to get off the ledge, at that time, another group attacks from
the rear." Taking another drink he refilled his cup. "You lead
the men to attack their rear, using whatever you can. Bows,
spears, maybe rig a few traps to come offf the hills..." Looking
at Srytka he smiled, "It would leave them two options. Fight to
the death, or surrender." His face softened slightly, and he
touched Srytka's cheek. "If you do that though, and it starts to
go bad for us. Run. I don't want you to try and fight a losing
       fight..." He whispered.
It was true, after so long, they were finally together again,
and he didn't want to lose her again. He couldn't think of that,
if something happened, he would be devastated. She had grown
from a pretty girl who he had a crush on, to a beautiful woman,
that he loved. Smiling, he had to look down and away, before he
let himself get lost in her eyes and try to kiss her. They may
have feelings for each other again, but it was still slightly
dangerous ground to tread on, he felt. Turning back towaards the
table, he picked up his cup and held it up, "Here is to, making
things right, and rekindling old flames." He stated, and tapped
       his cup against hers.

"Those five men will be your life if I give them to you." She
narrowed her eyes in his direction. "Most don't know how to move
quietly in the woods. Being on their own for a while kind of
does that to you. You get careless." She said with a lifted brow
before she shrugged her shoulders. "So you will need to get five
of them, you choose, and you will train them, give them your
whole life at one time because we need this if you are going to
be my only men out there. So you better be able to do all of
this on your own, because I will be training all the others."
She said with a sigh as she crossed her arms, still holding the
cup of wine in her hand, and hearing that he was still stubborn
about her eating, she clearly explained that she would eat
scraps. Rolling her eyes, she shook her head. "I have my food
right here." She lifted up the wine and stealthily got behind
him and still had a full glass of wine without a single ounce or
       drop missing from it.
She leaned against the table and took another sip, not letting
him order her on what she should do. Lifting a brow, she leaned
against the table again, and heard him finally ask when he gave
up on telling her what to do. "It's pretty high. Since those are
where the falls are." She said softly. "I'm surprised you
haven't heard of that ledge. It is where most people off
themselves." She shook her head and looked to the side before
she pulled out more pieces. As she was doing so, he began
speaking of their chances, and then told her to run if it gets
bad. "Are you freaking kidding me?" She pressed her fingers to
her face for a second and slammed her cup of wine down on the
table. "Stop telling me what to do." She said with slight
irritation. "I have had enough of that. This is my time to tell
others what to do." She shook her head and sighed, pressing her
fingers against her temples. "Whelan, I understand that you
care, and you don't want me killed, but you have to understand
that they know I am behind all of this!" She looked at him with
her emerald eyes wide and full of anger. "They already murdered
my brother, now they are wanting me to die because that will
most likely end the rival against them!"
"I will fight, until there is no one left, or until I am no
longer breathing in the forest air." She said with strict words.
"You or any other that pull me away from the fight, I will kill
with my own weapons." She was shaking by the end of this time.
In her childhood, she was obedient and she would do anything of
what she was told, but now that was enough. She was no longer
going to be told what to do. She was no longer going to be
pulled back from a fight when she was the one who started it in
the beginning. She was going to fight until the end. If it was
going to be someone who was going to back down, she was going to
make sure it would be king's men.

Listening to her rant, Whelan didn't look away this time, or
feel ashamed, folding his arms over his chest he watched her.
When she finally quit he nodded, "Fair enough, darling... But
what happens if you fall? What about these men that follow you?
You think they will have the courage to continue what you and
Hughe started? They wont... they need you Sry, you are the
reason they fight." He explained, softly. He had changed from
being the little boy with the quick temper. Becoming a warden
had taught him to control his anger, and be patient. "Srytka...
you are the heart of this rebellion, these men fear you and
respect you." He added, then smiled at her.
Reaching out, he lifted her chin, and gave her a soft smile, "I
am not trying toorder you to do anything... I am just trying to
be a good assistant..." He stated. Trying to turn the subject to
a lighter topic he nodded towards the food, "Now come on... I
pilfered this food ffor both of us. The planning can wait a few
minutes." He said, before she could pull away, he caught her
hand and in a voice mocking royalty, he added, "Now, now, Lady
Srytka... Every good general must stay strong, and eat, so as to
be able to lead their troops." Looking at her, he tried to keep
a straight face, but ended up giving her his stupid,
       troublemaker smile.
"Honest, Sryy. Let's eat... Then we can go back to planning. Ill
even stay up all night to help if you want." He stated, to get
her to move towards the table, he kept ahold of her hand, and
tookk a step. "I know who two of the men I am going to choose
are... I think they are brothers or cousins. Trip, and
Wililam... They say they grew up hunting, and they are rather
quiet, so I wont have to teach them much..." He said, trying to
talk about the plans, even as he tried to get her to eat.

Srytka continued to talk, but she could tell that it was only
going so far. He had the look like he did when he was a child.
He was just trying to catch the few words that she was speaking
to get a gist of what she was saying. It frustrated her always.
She let her words fade from her lips and he finally spoke,
calling her darling. She shook her head. "Do not call me
darling." She said quickly, practically cutting him off in the
middle of his sentence. She sighed and urged him to continue and
once he finished she nodded her head. "Stop trying to baby me
into this." She said with a slight narrow to her eyes. "I will
eat when I want." She said stubbornly and turned back toward the
food when she was suddenly captured by the chin. "A good
assistant would leave me be." She said, pulling her chin away
from his hand as well as her fingers when he tried to capture
       her hand with his own.
She kept her hand away and looked at her wine that was slightly
spilled next to her plans. She crossed her arms over her chest,
looking back at the plans. "I'd rather get them done first." She
said with a slight irritated tone. Keeping her eyes away from
his, she could hear his begging for her to eat, but she only
shook her head. "You are taking this rather fast...On trying to
settle back into my life as more than a friend." She said,
keeping her eyes away from his still. She could not bear to look
at him. "That kiss has seemingly given you hope...." She waited
a few moments then she continued. "And I didn't mean for that to
happen." She said quietly, tapping the table.
Letting him speak about who he was going to take and train, she
nodded her head. "Those two are good. They won't turn on you."
She gave a soft laugh before she pulled away, knowing the
information that she had just gave him besides the two men being
good was going to bother him. She stayed quiet and moved to sit
in one of the chairs across the table where the plans were,
where they were far from him. She couldn't handle a love right
       now...Especially during war...She couldn't, she would be
distracted on who she would save. She wouldn't worry about her
men, but about him if she continued this and she couldn't have
       that happening.

Listening to her talk, Whelan stiffened, most of what she was
saying was wrong. He was not trying to baby her, or even try to
be more than a friend, he was trying to care for his friend.
Yes, he had feelings for her, but he was not going to act on
them, not fully, not yet. Watching her slp away to the therside
of the table, he stared at her, withouyt saying a word. Even as
she talked about the men he had chosen, he clenched his jaw when
she had they wouldn't turn on him. He knew that was directed at
him, for turning against his oath and order.
He stood there quietly, contemplating the words he was going to
say to her, but when he looked back, he felt himself pause, then
sighed. What he was about to say, he knew might hurt their
relationship even farther, but perhaps not, he didn't know. She
was right though, the kiss had given him hope, he had felt his
heart stop for a second when she had done that, but it seemed
like an eternity ago now, even if it was just the previous day.
Swallowing he nodded, "You are right... It did give me hope..."
He replied, his tone even, as he ran a hand through his hair,
"However, I'm not a foolish little boy anymore, Srytka. I had no
delusion about coming in, and like some knight in shining armor,
steal you and your heart away." He said, his tone slightly angry
now "I know that you probably don't trust me very much. After
all I did just turn against my own order... I know the odds of
us kissing again, are probably non existent..." Sitting in the
chair on the opposite side of the table from her, he set his
elbows on his knees, and rested his face in his hands.
"I want to be your friend again, Srytka... I want to know that
we will be there for each other.." He mumbled into his hands.
Whelan had turned into a harder person since she had seen him as
a little boy, but he still spoke softly, and felt like he was a
little boy around her, even after all these years. "I was not
trying to baby you, or order you, or undermine you in any way at
all... I was trying to care for you, and about you... I was
trying to be a good friend again..." He explained, rubbing his
face as he picked up his wine and took a drink.

Her instincts were coming back into play. They were thriving off
of this. She sighed heavily as she moved to sit opposite of him
and far from him. He continued to watch her, knowing that the
words that she was saying were hitting him at home plate. Lacing
her fingers, she looked up at him, resting her elbows against
the table. He swallowed, and all she could do was watch. There
was nothing that she could say that would make this any better
because all of it would come back and bite her in the ass later.
She couldn't care about him. She couldn't love him. She couldn't
rely on anyone right now. She needed to direct, and be the head
honcho around her like her brother was, but it was going to be
very big shoes to fill. She took in a deep breath and nodded her
head, as if she was listening, similar to how he was when she
was speaking to him. Though the words that she knew had caught
him the hardest were the ones that came back. It did give him
hope. Her brow shot straight up and she stayed still, frozen
actually besides the movement of her eyes as she watched him sit
       down opposite of her.
When he finally got done explaining that he wasn't babying her,
or undermining her, or even making her look bad, he was just
trying to help her, she nodded her head. "You have your place,
and I have mine." She said softly. "If that involves friendship,
great, but for right now, our places are for war." Her eyes
narrowed and they darkened slightly. "War and love do not go
together. Any type of love. It's called reliance and
determination toward the same goal." She said orderly. She let
her eyes fade away from his and she looekd toward the opening of
the tent. There was already beginning to have the sounds of
metal hitting metal as the men began preparing, just as she had
told them too. "Go find your men. You are of no help here
arguing with me when you could be training your men outside. We
need all the time we can get before we have to go and fight."
She stood from the table, setting her hands on a towel that was
beside the plans and began cleaning up her wine that she had
       spilled.
Her eyes looked forward, and her voice was emotionless. She did
not have any emotion toward the subject. She could not let her
emotions run her haywire. She needed to stay together, and if
she needed to, she would break apart alone. Just as she had
always done. Turning her head, she cleaned up her mess,
straightened up the pieces, setting them apart and organizing
them on the maps again as she began playing out the different
play by play of the war and the possible outcomes without
another word to Whelan. She didn't need to speak anymore. She
had told him to leave and the reason why. Now it was his turn to
       do as she asked.
