Re: Bound in Time

As the two talked, they were approached by a car: a 2016 Nissan
Maxima. The driver was a young woman. Attractive, but apparently
worn, she appeared. She rolled down her window and spoke to
them. "Are you Ciaran?" She asked, looking at Santiago in
particular.
"Afraid not" He responded, looking around for anyone else who
might be the man she was looking for. But there was no one
around the building that he could see. "Maybe check the other
side?" As the driver pulled off, the sound of a gun cocking
could be heard behind Santiago. "Empty your pockets. Drop the
bag" Eyes wide, Santiago raised his hands slowly, feeling the
barrel of a gun in his back.
"We don't want any trouble. All I have is my phone. You can
search me."
The robber instructed him to remove his phone and turn his
pockets inside out, confirming that what he said was true.
"Must not be much of a gambler to walk out empty handed. He
walked around Santiago, keeping the gun fixed on Santiago's
stomach. He wore a black hoodie, and a dark blue bandana
covered his face. HE was tall and lanky, but otherwise no
defining features could be made out. He urged Zahara to hurry,
but before she could move, the sound of a car door slamming shut
caught him by surprise, causing him to reflexively pull the
trigger.
"Oh shit!" He yelled, running off before the man could even hit
the ground!
Responding to the sound of gunfire, Ciaran soon ran up from the
building, kneeling down to inspect the man's wound. "Quick!
Call an ambulance!" He called to Zahara. before carefully
checking the man's back. "Bullet's still inside." He said. It
was a bad sign. He pulled the fancy hankerchief from his suit
pocket and applied pressure to the wound, attempting to stop the
bleeding as they awaited the ambulance.
"Did you get a good look at the shooter?" He asked. His usual
smirk was nowhere to be found; replaced with a calm, but urgent
demeanor that showed he meant business. It would take very
careful movement, and a bit of luck if they were going to save
this man's life...

Re: Bound in Time

Zahara nervously paced in hospital waiting room. She knew that
Santi was rushed into surgery when he arrived but since she
wasn't family, the nurses weren't giving her much outside of
he's still in surgery.
"Z?"
She jerked her head towards the anxious voice. She rushed over
to Santiago's older brother and threw herself into his arms. "Oh
Christof."
He comforted her as he walked her over to some empty seats.
"Tell me what happened."
"We were standing by my car when some guy came up behind us with
a gun." She took a deep breath. "When he got spooked by a car
door slamming, he shot Santi and then ran."
"Are you okay? What did the cops say?"
Zahara resisted the urge to stand up and start pacing again. All
she felt was her guilt eating away at her, thinking that none of
this would've happened if out wasn't for her. "I made my
statement and they said that they would get back to me if they
made any progress. But I don't know how much help I was. I
didn't see what he looked like."
"I'm sure you did the best you could."
"Christof? Christof, where is he?"
She looked up to see the rest of Santiago's family rushing into
the waiting room. Santi was the splitting image of his father
but only with his mother's eyes. Eyes that were now glared at
her with anger and hate.
"What is she doing here?" The woman spat out. "Why weren't we
the first ones notified?"
Zahara bit tongue, holding back her anger. She wouldn't get into
an argument in the hospital waiting room. She hugged Christof
one more time. "I'm going to go and let you be with your family.
Keep me updated, please?"
"Of course." He pulled back from her. "If you need anything,
don't hesitate to call."
She nodded, smiling slightly. She held herself together all the
way down to the hospital entrance but she felt like she was
going to collapse. She leaned against one of the pillars outside
and started to cry. Her nose twitched slightly at a familiar
scent. She looked up through the blurriness of her tears and
watched as the same man, who no longer made her tense for some
reason, walk towards her.
"Why do you smell like fresh cinnamon and nutmeg?"

Ciaran didn't go up to the waiting room with Zahara and the
others. His presence would alter the energy in the room, and
potentially prompt questions he didn't care to answer. Instead,
he waited near the entrance, calmly pacing between the Stone
columns in front of the check in station. He couldn't exactly
leave after all, since he had driven Zahara here in her car.
Well, actually, he COULD leave, considering Zahara never took
her keys back from him. But what fun would that have been? What
benefit would he gain from another car? Compared to the prize in
his sights, that was worthless!
Speaking of his prize, it wasn't long before he sensed her
heading out the door! It seemed she didn't notice him at first,
as she leaned against one of the stone pillars and commenced the
waterworks. Everything was as he expected. It was her nose that
gave it away when she noticed him. It twitched, as if she
smelled something she recognized, and she looked at him as he
approached.
Her question was one that he couldn't provide an answer for. He
was perceived differently by different people. to some, he may
have smelled like the ocean, or had paler skin. It was really a
matter of the person's personal perception, unless he decided he
wanted them to perceive him differently. The only thing about
himself he had changed in Zahara's case, was his eye color. So
the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg was something that her mind had
conjured on it's own.
"I've never heard that one before." He answered truthfully.
"Maybe a combination of my own personal scent, and some memory
you may have associated with me?"
He shrugged the topic off and continued, placing a hand on her
shoulder tenderly.
"More importantly, are you alright? How is he doing?" Genuine
concern played in his tone as he asked, but he already knew the
answer. There was something in her expression other than
concern. It was anger! Something happened up there that had
nothing to do with the boy's injuries. Whatever it was, Ciaran
would have to get to the bottom of it soon...
