       A world of Mutants
By: Zavien Date: January 24, 2019, 3:22 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Bryant hadn't been out just to be out in weeks! He was always
either working on a job, or holed up at home! It was nice just
checking out the town for a change! He had gotten a nice meal,
and found himself wandering aimlessly. He didn't know why, but
he ended up at the train station, seated on a bench and watching
people as the boarded and departed as well as the ones arriving.
People watching had once been a favorite pastime of his. He had
honestly forgotten how relaxing it could be! People meeting with
loved ones for the first time in a while, or departing after
visits. They were very emotional scenes. Of course, there were
also the loners; Either running away from, or toward something.
Bryant thought that maybe he should take a trip somewhere! He
hadn't left Chicago in all his life! He certainly had the means!
What was keeping him from going to see new places? He decided he
would take a trip soon! For now though, he was just here to take
       in the scenery...

“Finally a day to myself.” Amina murmured to herself as she
walked the streets of Chicago towards the train station. It has
been one hell of a week for her. Multiple deadlines due back to
back at work, very little sleep and not enough energy to cook a
real meal. Though who doesn’t love PB&J for breakfast, lunch and
dinner for consecutive five days? The streets were loud with
cars and buses driving, horns honking and people walking the
streets with their friends and family. Amina normally stayed in
the apartment after working so hard, but she felt like she
deserved to go out and do something fun. She made a slight left
and began to walk down the stairs to the trains, the light from
outside began to fade behind her as she descended. The man
speaking over the loud speaker sounded muffled as he talked
about trains being delayed, the arrivals and departures. Her
eyes glanced at the arrivals for her destination, “15 minutes.”
Amina glanced around for a spot to sit and she found one open
spot next to a man on a bench. She made her way over to the
bench and flashed a warm smile at the man sitting down. “Is this
       seat taken?”

This world was one of prejudice...
It was an unfortunate fact that Bryant knew all too well. After
all, he stood on the receiving end of many of those prejudices.
Not only was he a black man, but he had the gall to be a mutant
on top of it! Either of those things could get him killed in the
wrong situation, but at least one of them, he could hide! Even
so, this lead him to a very suspicious nature. Though he watched
people for his enjoyment, he also did it for his survival! He
would see any signs of aggression in advance, giving him time to
react accordingly. Two or three seconds could mean the
       difference between life and death!
This practice had also made Bryant very good at reading
situations and people. Were the two leaving the station friends?
A couple? Or something different entirely? Was the man on the
phone lying about his intentions? Was the woman getting off the
train nervous about the man she was meeting?Bryant could see it
       all
But what he saw in that moment distracted him from all of it!
Deep brown skin and eyes, a sultry expression that she most
likely wasn't even aware of, and most of all, an afro that would
make even the most regal of African Queens cry out in jealousy!
In a word; She was fine! But she deserved more than a word! She
deserved a book series complete with two sequels and a movie
       deal!
Still, Bryant kept his composure as she made her way to the
       bench.
       "Is this seat taken?"
"It is now." He answered calmly, gesturing for her to take a
       seat next to him.
Once she was seated. comfortably, green eyes began surveying the
       room once more.
"Here to pick someone up?" He asked. He decided it was unlikely
that she was catching a train, since she had no bags. Of course,
there was a chance she would shoot down his attempt at talking.
But hopefully she was in the mood for a chat!
