Magenta Island

A large island located halfway between the Kanto and Johto
Region. Named for the Magenta colored sky at sunset, this land
is known for being well populated with Pokemon from both
regions, it is often used as the location of Field exams. On the
easternmost side of the island is a beach that traverses from
the northernmost to southernmost points. Traveling East will
lead to a wide field, that is split down the middle by a large
river that travels from a cliff and waterfall in the northeast
to a large freshwater lake in the southwest. West of the lake
is a forest that's heavily populated with different pokemon. A
hike through the woods alone would take over an hour. But on the
far East side, is a small mountainrange filled with underground
caves that house even more species! A hike from the far East to
far West sides of the Island would take about 3 hours.

A New School Year! That meant new minds to mold! The fifty
accepted applicants had been testing all morning, and they now
flew on the Academy Plane toward Magenta Island, where they
would take their final entrance exam before being officially
admitted into the Academy. None of them had been given the
details of the exam, only told that it was a field exam that
they had to pass in order to become students.
The flew over the island just about noon, and landed in the
field in the middle of the Island. Once everyone had gotten off,
the students would gather around the Proctor, who would finally
explain the details of the exam to them.
"Welcome to Magenta Island!" The proctor called out. His voice
was loud enough for each of the 50 prospective students to hear
him, and yet, he somehow didn't come off as if he was yelling at
them. Your final entrance exam is simple!" He held a pokeball up
over his head
Each of you will be given a single Pokeball! Your objective is
to capture a Pokemon on this Island, and return to this location
before 8pm! You can capture any Pokemon you like to pass the
exam, but I advise you to capture one that's capable of
performing, as it will be your partner at the Academy!"
Five of the Proctor's assistants then lined up to the right side
of the Proctor, each holding a suitcase.
"You will be loaned a Pokemon to assist you on your exam, upon
completion, that Pokemon will be returned here. line up in front
of the proctors in order to receive your Pokemon. Applicants
1-10 will get your Pokemon from the first line, 11-20 in the
second line, and so on! Once you have received your Pokemon,
you're free to begin! Remember! If you haven't completed the
task by 8pm, you will be considered to have failed the exam!

Zaria tried to sleep on the plane, but her nerves simply
wouldn't allow it! The entrance exams had been so tough all day
it was a wonder they hadn't sent her home already! And this was
supposed to be the toughest one! What if she didn't get
accepted? What if she had to go back to Pallet Town and live a
boring life like her parents? She just couldn't live with that!
So she sat up, with her window closed waiting for their arrival.
She didn't know anyone there, but some of her colleagues seemed
to be well studied, far moreso than her. How could she not be
nervous?
It only got worse once they were on the ground, and the Proctor
explained the exam! They had to catch a Pokemon! And it needed
to be strong enough to be a good partner at the Academy! She
practically broke into a cold sweat! But she followed
instructions just the same. Her number was 24, so she lined up
in the second line and went to retrieve her Pokemon, which she
released to reveal a Squirtle!
The tiny turtle Pokemon was so cute it relieved her nerves a
bit, she smiled to it and pet it's head. "Alright Squirtle!
Let's go! She said, taking off in a random direction. She may
have felt a bit better, but she still didn't have a plan...

Shortly after the announcement, Aries had stepped forward to
take the pokemon temporarily assigned to assist her in capturing
one on the island. The task was simple, yet the idea of
attempting to catch an actual pokemon without any outside
assistance was nerve-racking. Her recent years had been spent
aiding the local pokemon hospital, permitting her minimal
knowledge of what it took to handle pokemon, but it was hardly
the same as catching her own.
She held the assisting pokemon's ball with reservation and
attempted a greeting. The pokemon, a squirtle, reminded her of
one of the nurse's that had helped cleaned hospital instruments
in the basement. Unlike that squirtle, this one was not
familiar or as friendly.
Not wanting to bother any of the other applicants, she headed
out without conversing with anyone and headed to the caves and
mountains. Her first intention was to capture an Abra, but she
first stumbled on a Larvitar and decided that it was just as
good.
"Okay, Squirtle, let's see what you got," she murmured, more so
to herself to calm her nerves than to the pokemon.
First, the Larvitar attempted a leer, but she instructed
Squirtle to tackle thwarting the attack before it could be fully
implemented. However, by throwing itself against Larvitar, it
provided the opportunity for it to bite Squirtle. A pained
whimper followed, distracting her momentarily.
'Focus,' she mentally commanded herself.
Before she could think of something, the Larvitar acted on its
sand storm attack.
"Tail whip!" she shouted, just before they could be overtaken.
Squirtle was quick and successfully caught the pokemon off guard
with the counter attack. Defeated, the Larvitar weighted down
her hand in its pokemon as she carried it back to the starting
point with an energized smile.
The entirety of the trip took longer than expected. Although
she did not regret going to the mountains and caves in search of
pokemon, she was pressed for time as a result. Altogether, the
trip there and back had taken four hours and capturing the
pokemon had detained her another half an hour.
Hoping she had made it back in time, she broke into a sprint
just before arriving where she was to be.

Merith had done a lot of research on the academy even before he
had been able to join its ranks, he wanted to know everything
about pokemon so that one day when he was a pokemon master he
knew as much as he could about each one. The plane ride over
wasn’t long enough to read up on every little thing that magneta
island had to offer, but he did get the basic layout. When they
landed each of the procters handed out pokemon each one a useful
friend to help them catch one of their own. He had received
Charmander, a fire type pokemon a useful one against the pokemon
he truly wanted. When they were told they could go Merith was
off to the forest area dashing straight towards the area he
needed to be. Once inside he knew he had eight hours to complete
the exam so it was simple catch the pokemon he wanted and train
it a bit before heading back.
After about an hour of searching the area he finally stumbled
upon what he was looking for and in person the pokemon was much
bigger and scarier than he thought. Its large scythe like blades
chinked together, its wings beating at the air and the loud
screech it gave out as they approached caused Merith to recoil
slightly but it was too late to run now. He threw the pokeball
forth releasing Charmander from its home. “Charmander I choose
you.” Charmander came forth from the ball and spit a small bit
of fire forward. Scyther prepared itself and charged straight
for Charmander, Merith pointed forward with a smile.
“Charmander use tackle.”
Charmander met the scyther midway through its charge knocking
him back slightly from the recoil, merith smiled at the slight
victory before shouting. “Charmander use Ember” A small bit of
fire extended forth from charmanders mouth and caught the area
around scyther on fire causing the pokemon to flair back a bit
in fear. Scyther however started a counter attack flying towards
Charmander through the fire and swiping at him four times,
causing Charmander to fall back to right in front of Merith.
Scyther charged forward again preparing for the final blow.
“Charmander use ember then tackle.” Charmander spit forth flames
again and went to tackle at the same time causing the fire to
engulf its head and slam into scyther sending it reeling to the
ground. Merith pulled out his pokeball and tossed it at the
scyther. One shake, two shakes and then no more movement. Slowly
he made his way back to the field ready to begin his days at the
academy.

Zoran had kept to himself throughout the exams, watching and
observing everything. He spoke only when spoken to, and took his
exams with confidence. He didn't Ace them all, but he felt sure
that he did well. On the plane, he looked out the window the
whole time, He had his suspicions about the final exam, but he
couldn't be sure just yet.
The proctor confirmed his suspicions. It was the reason they
weren't allowed to bring their own Pokemon. So that they could
catch their own and start on equal grounds. By the time the exam
had begun, he already knew what he wanted to catch; A Staryu. He
would evolve it into a powerful Starmie just like Misty had! She
had told him once that Starmie could become even more powerful
and versatile than hers was. It would be a perfect first
Pokemon!
After getting his Pokemon, he took off, without even opening the
ball. Once he was alone, he opened the ball to reveal the
Bulbasaur inside. Perfect! A grass type would give him an
advantage against the Staryu! After exchanging a few words of
encouragement with it, he took off in the direction of the
beach. He had been walking for a half hour when he heard a high
pitched screech. He turned around to see an Eevee, being chased
by a Beedrill! It must have pursued the small canine all the way
from the Forest!
Without thinking, Zoran jumped between the two. "Leave it
alone!" Zoran called. The Eevee quickly hid behind him.
"Bulbasaur, Leech Seed!" He called, and the Bulbasaur obeyed
without hesitation. It fired a single seed from it's bulb, and
it landed on the Beedrill's head, vines quickly erupting from
the seed and wrapping around the target, sapping it of it's
strength, and restricting it's movements.
"Now Tackle!" Bulbasaur rushed the giant Bee head first, sending
it flying free of it's confinement. The shaken Beedrill
retreated back toward the forest. Zoran smiled at the Eevee.
"You're safe now." He told it, before beginning to walk toward
the beach.
But the Eevee didn't leave his side, it stayed on Zoran's heels
all the way to the beach, and nuzzled his leg every time he
stopped. Giving up, he knelt down and scratched the Eevee behind
the ear. "So you want to come with me?" He asked. The Eevee
chirped happily. With a happy sigh, Zoran forfeited his hopes of
catching a Staryu. "Alright." He said, dropping the empty
Pokeball on the Eevee's head and catching it without a fight.
"Let's work well together!"

After walking away from the group, Zaria looked back. It could
be easier to pass the exam if people traveled together. The
proctor didn't say it was against the rules, but it didn't seem
that anyone was. They went off on their own without a word to
each other. It was possible they wanted to avoid the competition
and fighting over pokemon. With a sigh, she took off on her own.
For some time she didn't see a single Pokemon. Eventually, she
arrived at the waterfall and the lake, where she saw a Shellder!
She almost squeed in excitement! "It's so cute!" She exclaimed.
But when she approached, the Shellder quickly retreated beneath
the surface of the water. She huffed and took a seat by the
water. "How do you even catch a Pokemon?" She asked herself. She
understood the concept, of course. But what was to stop every
Pokemon from running away instead of fighting? She had already
wasted almost an hour. She decided it was time to get up and go.
But just as she was preparing to go, she heard a clotting sound.
She turned to see a Ponyta approaching the lake for a drink. Her
eyes widened at the sight. It was beautiful! She wouldn't let
this one get away...
"Squirtle! Let's go!" She called as she released the turtle from
it's ball. "Bubble!"
Squirtle fired a barrage of bubbles toward the Pony Pokemon that
exploded on contact, startling the Ponyta. The flames on
Ponyta's back flared up, and it turned to Squirtle, it opened
it's mouth, and sent a series of Embers it's way. "Withdraw!"
She called out. Squirtle quickly withdrew into it's shell, which
prevented the bulk of it's damage. "Headbutt!" Squirtle lunged
at the Ponyta, crashing into it with it's head, and knocking it
off it's balance. Zaria threw the Pokeball then, catching Ponyta
inside. It put up some resistance, but it eventually held still.
"I did it!" She cried, picking up the ball containing her new
Ponyta. "Thank you Squirtle! She cried. She hugged the turtle
and returned it to it's ball. She pushed her hair out of her
face and smiled in accomplishment. She passed her exam!

Xeta couldn't focus during the exam, her mind kept wandering
away to the various Poke types on Magneta island. What would she
catch? What would be the best one to match her personality? The
plane ride was no different. Various students murmured to each
other or reading while she choose to stare out the window, and
watched the rays bounce off the waves below.
They soon landed on the island, and the proctor announced that
they would be given a Pokemon and have to go out to catch one of
their own, one that could perform as well. What should she
catch? Her mind wandered as she headed off in an unplanned
direction, her mind lost in its thoughts.
The sound of a snapping twig caught her attention, a Girafarig
appeared in front of her and it looked just as surprised as she
was. With a quick back step, she threw her poke ball, releasing
the Charmander inside. "Charmander! Bite!" The little dragon ran
and bit Girafarig on the neck, then dodged quickly to the left
to avoid being hit by Girafarig's tackle. "Ember!" Charmander
blew a ring of fire around the Girafarig, burning it in the
process. Xeta celebrated silently before she threw her poke ball
at the Girafarig and the ball hit it on the right shoulder.
Shake....shake.....CAUGHT!
Xeta danced to herself then smiled at Charmander. "Good job! We
did it!" She petted the little lizard on it's head before
opening it's poke ball to return it. She scooped her new Pokemon
up with a happy squee. Now she had to get back before the time
limit ran out and she already spent half the time wandering in
her own little world. "Come on little buddy! It's time to meet
the other students at the Academy!"
She started on her journey back to the academy, thinking up a
name for her new best friend.

My journey was going to be a long a hard one , but at the end
when I look back on it , it would all be worth . I listen the
best I could . I was way to excited to even keep still . I
wanted to start asap . The Announcement was shorted then I
expected and really straight to the point . Which was a good
thing because I don't think I could maintain my character any
longer .
I waited to receive my temporary Pokémon till I was able to
catch my own . I thought they would have a pattern on how they
where giving the Pokémon out to us but it was completely random
. I really didn't know what was I getting till I recieve the
poke ball and threw it to the ground. "Bablbasur"!! A bablbasur
, the grass type Pokémon that likes to sun baith . Cool ! We
going to do great things the short time we have with each other
. Balbasur !! I take that as a yes . Let's get going then but
wait here's a snack . I made it myself for grass types only . Do
you like it ? Balbasur took a bite and smiled confirming he like
it . Good! I noted it and save it to my notebook where I keep my
ingredients for Pokémon food .
We all started to go our seperate ways . Some went to the shore
, some went into the forest and others began to take the hike .
I already knew where I wanted to go . To the mountains I go. !

It was just after 3pm when Zoran arrived back at the base. A
quick scan of the area confirmed that several students had
already completed the exam, opting to capture Pokemon that
occupied the areas surrounding the base, and not venture too
far. It was a smart move for getting into the Academy, but could
possibly work against them in the long run. Even so, he was
happy to see his classmates doing well. He smiled as he
approached, and returned Bulbasaur to the Proctor, removing
Eevee from it's ball to confirm that he had captured it.
Once his success had been confirmed, the Proctor retrieved a
Pokedex, and took a few moments to program it before handing it
to him, and explaining it's various functions. "There are just
under five hours until the end of the exam. Feel free to explore
the Island at your leisure during that time."
Exploring did sound fun, but Zoran decided to instead take a
seat on a nearby rock, and fiddle with his Pokedex. First, he
scanned Eevee. "So you know Swift, Sand Attack, and Quick
Attack..." Eevee nodded as it nuzzled his leg. He couldn't help
but smile as he watched. He may have wanted to catch a Staryu,
but he was happy with his decision. "I'm going to name you
Kitsune. We're going to become the best together, alright?"
Kitsune chirped happily and jumped into his lap. He stayed in
position, examining his device and his Pokemon, as he waited for
something interesting to happen.
