       The Mischief of Rodents

"Sir, we just lost artificial gravity in sector 4. Engineering
is requesting if you could go talk to... him."
The call came over the speaker in his desk from security, and
Professor Owen Prinz let out an exhausted sigh. The little
cretin was beginning to become more of a problem than a
solution. It was incredibly smart, and agile, able to loft and
carry things that far outweighed it. His latest experiment,
TK-1110 seemed only interested in breaking valuable equipment
aboard the station. Prinz still needed the creature though, out
of eight hundred specimens, TK-1110 was the only one to actually
wake up, and gain sentience. The downside was, Prinz had no idea
how, genetically, and neurologically all thother specimens in
their growth tanks were identical. There was no discernible
difference, and as 1110 grew, and became more intelligent, it
became more apparent that being contained in the lab would not
work for much longer. Prinz had designed the creatures to be
workers, be able to operate in confined spaces and were humans
could not go. They were perfect in all ways, except the fact
only one of them was operational. Prinz knew he would have to
dissect it in order to discover how it was different.
       "Professor?"
Prinz looked at the syringe in his hand, and keyed the intercom,
       "in on my way, Anya."
Prinz felt himself go weightless as the elevator entered sector
4 of the station, a sigh slipped from hus lips as he clicked the
heels of his shoes and the magnetic treads activated. Walking
through the various labs were techs worked quickly to ensure
nothing got damaged or broken when power was restored, Prinz
finally reached his creations, 'bedroom'. "Authorization code,
Kilo-Juliet-Alpha- 3-5-9-8." the doors unsealed as his command
was accepted, and Prinz entered into the room.
"TK-1110? TK-1110..." Rolling his eyes, he tried again"Tek'et,
where are you? You've been rather troublesome according to the
engineers." As he waited for his creation to produce itself, he
walked around the room, inspecting the various contraptions.
Lifting one object for closer inspection he felt a high pitched
buzz in the back of his brain, just as a streak of ruddy fur
flew in front of him, and grabbed the object. "No. No. No. No.
Professor can't see yet. Tek'et hasn't made it ready. Needs more
parts. Professor be proud. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes." Prinz watched
the creature floating upside down, it's back to him as it
fiddled with the object he had been holding.
