Stealing the Crown

The castle was more alive than it had been in years. In
celebration of the Princess' coronation. Foreign dignitaries
have flocked from counties from around the world. The Ballroom;
the main place for the event was filled with loud music and the
sound of people laughing and having a good time. Though it was
not fun and games for everyone. The guards of the palace were on
High Alert against any threat that may come to the Kingdom or
the Crown itself.
One Knight in particular stood out from the rest. His choice of
black made him stand out. It was as if death himself was
watching over the celebration. Patrolling the crowd with
professionalism.

Everything was in place. As well as her crew. Dana was giving
her announcement as Princess LuLa from the southern seas.
Captain Riley chuckled as her fake name was called. Long red
hair flowed down her back. It took many hours to get each strand
perfect. Her purple gown flowed over her body the dress was a
little stiff and didnt do much to show her delicate curves.
Under her dress not visible her worn boots hit each step and
eased the stuffiness of it all. These women here were crazy to
do this sort of thing. Riley made eye contact with several of
her crew members who were all primped and preened as well.
Everything was in motion. She just needed to get the princess
alone. ...

As he scanned the crowd a flash of red caught Leif's eye. He
turned his focus on the woman. Her flowing red hair was her most
vibrant feature. Princess Lula he recalled from the address.
There was something about her that seemed, odd. Like she didn't
belong at an event such as this one. Leif's a strange feeling
settled in his gut and made it twist with unease. He made a
mental note to keep an eye on her as the party progressed. Just
in case.

Rileys eyes locked on target. The princess who lived in the
castle. As expected she was by the thrones talking to a prince.
Or so the princess thought. really he was a scrubbed up crew
member who had a strong chin. Riley grinned and hurried over.
"So Princess shall we go somewhere more private?" As planned
Riley arrived just in time to save the princess.
"My word! Ive looked for you all evening! Is this man bothering
you? Come with me. I wont allow him to sleeze up your name. Lets
escape the crush of the ball and go find a drink. Something a
little stronger than the champagne offered shall we.
The princess went through a series of faces. Deciding if she was
offended or delighted at the idea.. She finally giggled and
nodded. "My father has a stash of brandy in his study. But rhe
guards will tell on me. So we need to sneak past them."
Riley nodded and looked around and itched her cheek. One of her
crew gave a slight nod and turned to another crew member and
punched him. The two made a loud drunken scene. "Lets go
princess, here is our chance!"

The loud ruckus drew the attention of Leif, as well as most of
the guards stationed in the ballroom. They all rushed towards
the brawl which was slowly growing. Leif looked at his
surroundings in shock; it was a madhouse and looked like
something that belonged in a bar not in a castle. Nemurous
guests were involved plates and dishes were being thrown, chairs
broken over the backs of men. Suprisingly, women were also in
the middle of a scuffle, and holding their own too. The guards
joined, eventually putting and end to the fight and arresting
anyone that continued to resist.
Lief let out a sigh, it was over though it was still unclear how
it started and it was lucky no one was severely injured. He
turned his attention back to the crowd, his eyes sweeping the
rattled occupants. His breathe caught in his throat. The
Princess was nowhere to be seen. Not wanting to sound an alarm
and cause more panic, he took off running out the ballroom and
down the corridor.

When they reached the study Riley was astonished. It was by far
the largest study she had ever been in. The princess pulled out
a bottle from the desk. Poured 2 drinks and sat the bottle down.
Riley took one glass and a gleam caught her eye. ''is that
it?''A smile crossed her face. It was the crown. She walked
over and touched the stand it was on.
"'Yes its beautiful right? Ive always wanted to wear
it.''Opportunity knocked. Riley was damnedsure gonna answer it.
"Try it on."'She picked up from the stand and placed it on the
primcess' head before she could protest. Then as any girl would
the princess looked in the mirror and posed looking at herself.
"'Its so beautiful princess!'' Riley finished her drink and
walked over to pour another. When she looked back the princess
had her head tilted back chugging her own drink. Riley grabbed
the crown and the Princess nearly choked.
"'Hey what-'' Riley cut her off by smashing the bottle over the
back of her head. The princess fell tot the floor. Riley made
sure no glass was in her head. Then she put the crown in a bag,
leaned down and put a cloth on the back of her head. " Youll be
okay. But I dont envy the splitting head ache you will have when
you wake. I am truly sorry."' She stood and and looked to the
door. All was moving along perfectly.

Lief was in the middle of searching one of the castles many
galleries, he cursed at himself for not keeping a proper eye on
the princess. The king would be furious when he hears about what
a disaster the night had turned out to be. Lief exited the
Gallery and turned back the way he came when a loud crash of
breaking glass stopped him in his tracks. His heart jumped in
his chest as he turned and rushed to investigate.
Stopping at the door to the King's study he took a brief moment
to steady the loud pounding of his chest. Taking a deep breath,
he drew his sword and burst into the Study. Seeing the collapsed
Princess caused Lief to curse for the umpteenth time that night,
he was about to race to her aid when he noticed the woman.
Coming face to face with the red haired woman from the party
shocked Lief, he knew he shouldn't have trusted this woman and
now the Princess was unconscious and possibly injured. He turned
his full attention to the woman and pointed his sword at her.
"What are you doing here and what did you do to the Princess?"
He demanded threateningly.

Riley found herself facing a guard. He was obviously angry. ''Oh
thank goodness you are here! The princess fell. A little too
much to drink. Hurry I think she is hurt.'' Riley put on her
most worried face and stepped back hands clasping at her skirt
nervously.
She kept backing up, till she hit a window. ''I do apologize.
But I have to run.'' With that she tore away the skirting, and
all the frills. Tossing them at the guard. She had had pants on
under for a hasty escape. She looked out the window and assessed
her options. Luckily there was a rope with flags lining in.
''Pity I would have loved to see your swordsmanship.'' With that
she jumped out, drawing a her own sword, and cutting the rope
feel.
"'You're too cute to kill. You will remember my name. Captain
Riley Red!'' She called over her shoulder as she sailed through
the air. Once she was over a walk path between towers she
dropped off the rope and waved to the window she had just
jumped out of. Then she looked around. Where to go?
Behind her was ocean and before her she could drop into the
court yard. She grabbed the bag with the crown to secure it.
Then she dived over the edge, into the water. The bobbed up and
swam to shore. A grin on her face. She had succeeded in stealing
the crown. Now she needed to escape the whole kingdom.

Lief tossed the dress to the ground and raced to the window
sill. He saw Riley's decent and watched as she disappeared into
the water.
'A pirate in the kingdom? What would sh-.' His thoughts trailed
off as his eyes fell upon the stand where the crown was supposed
to be.'Dammit. If I hurry I'll have enough time to reach the
docks. If she truly was a pirate she will have a ship waiting
nearby.'
Turning away from the window he bent and checked on the still
unconscious Princess. She wasn't badly hurt but judging by that
bruise she would have a terrible headache. Lief lent down and
took her into his arms then exited the study. Luckily he came
across two patrolling guards nearby. Handing them the Princess
he gave his report.
"You and you, take the Princess shes been knocked unconscious.
Get her to her father let him know that a thief just escaped the
castle with the crown. Not just any thief, a pirate. I'm going
personally to hunt her down."
He turned and took off towards the docks hoping he made it in
time.
