The Spirit World
By: Renegade Date: February 2, 2017, 9:45 am

The Gate to the Spirit World is located only a few miles from
Capital City. Anyone is now free to walk into this land of
mystery at their leisure, but be mindful. Bending is impossible
in the Spirit World, and this is where Spirits are at their
strongest. Be mindful of where you are, and always be respectful
to the land and it's inhabitants, or you may never find your way
back!

"Well how else was i supposed to handle him?" Nitara bickered
with the spirits around her. "His desires for women and drink
were his downfall, i simply played the reaper. Perhaps that
position is open? With whom do i share my credentials?" she
jested as she placed a hand against the trunk of tree. Extending
her hands above her head she smiles to the canopy of the great
oak. "Up, please, i wish to fly." In moments the vines wrapped
around her wrists and swung her into the air. Planting her arms
to her sides, she allowed the momentum to shoot her forward like
a torpedo.
Without so much as a second thought she was somersaulting
through the leaves, pausing briefly only to redirect herself
from a nest or less friendly spirit. Her red skin warmed in the
glowing light. Nitara balanced at the tip of a tree looking out
on a clearing. "To truly be an air bender, you must let go of
fear" She smiles, closes her eyes and falls backwards. Straight
down through branches and leaves and into the river.
A catdeer plods to the river's edge and cocks its head
curiously. He paws the ripples in the water before stepping
backward. With a wild battle cry, Nitara leaps from the water
and pounces at the catdeer, narrowly missing. "Will you follow
me everywhere, beast?" she laughed as she wrestled the creature
playfully. She places her forehead against the creature's. "Lets
go, Kaze" she hummed, swinging herself onto the saddle. "i don't
know if its all the humans here but i feel... unrest"

"We lost him!"
Calia looked around at the bizzare surroundings as she trudged
forward. She had followed his trail to that strange city, and
then through the bright light, and had ended up in this strange
place, where Spirits roamed free!
Well, she had believed it to be his trail at least. In truth,
Xanther's senses had been a bit off since they first arrived on
this Continent. She looked over at her Panther Wolf, and stroked
his back gently. It was probably more for her own comfort, than
for his, but she continued to do so as they walked, surveying
their surroundings carefully.
"I've never seen a Spirit in person before, Xanther. But here,
they're all over the place! Do you think we actually found our
way into the Spirit World?"
Of course she had heard stories of the Spirit World. About how
the man who fused with the Spirit, Raava had sent the spirits
there so they wouldn't quarrel with humans so many generations
ago. Her guard was on high, but the Spirits paid her no mind at
all! It was as if it wasn't strange for them at all to see a
human wandering around! But how could that be? Weren't they
supposed to hate humans? Why didn't they attack on sight?
It was probably best not to question a good thing.
"Let's take a rest." Calia finally said.
They had been tracking ever since they arrived and clearly had
only gotten themselves lost. She had no clue where the rest of
her Clan had gotten to, but she couldn't worry about that yet.
She had to handle her unfinished business first. She would take
some time to reorient herself, and then restart the search from
scratch. She had just started to relax, when Xanther rose to his
feet, appearing reckless. Someone was approaching... But was it
human, or Spirit?

Kaze and Nitara padded up behind the girl, looking out over the
clearing. "Calm yourself beast, i wish no harm to your master"
she commanded the pantherwolf as she dismounted. Kaze hunched
its shoulders in a defensive position. "This is the last place
you'd wish to lose your life, dear one" she spoke in a way
gentle way, despite her words. There wasn't an ounce of fear or
worry on her face. Smiling down at the girl she tilted her head.
"Many come into the wilds looking to conquer spirits, some to
commune. Tell me something, which would you seek?" she
questioned the girl with a raised brow. A breeze blows between
them, carrying with it the scent of burnt wood and flora. For
the moment, she would seem lost in thought.
'Was this convergence truly for the better for us, Father
Zaheer?' she prayed silently.
"Do you see the land before us, girl" spoke the red skinned
woman abruptly."Scarred by the greed of humans and their thirst
for power." With a running jump she landed in a pile of broken
branches and ash.
"New growth cannot exist without first the destruction of the
old." she breathed the quote from Guru Laghima, steadying her
temper. The air still quaked with the power from the blast all
those years ago. She said a prayer for the spirits that lost
that day before drawing in a deep breath

Calia rushed to her feet when she heard the woman's voice,
placing a hand on Xanther's back before he had the chance to
jump on the offensive. She looked the woman over, her expression
calm, however clearly still on guard. Her first observation was
that the strange woman was beautiful! Her rick colored skin
soaked up the sun so effortlessly, she could easily pass for a
member of Light Clan! The second was that the way she spoke was
unsettling. She spoke with a sense of authority that didn't sit
right with Calia. No. Perhaps it wasn't authority... But what?
Arrogance? Maybe it was simply reverence for the land?
She seemed to carry a certain protectiveness over this land and
it's Spirits. Perhaps she was some sort of Guardian? The thought
immediately made Calia uneasy. She thought maybe it was best for
her to get going sooner, rather than later.
"I didn't come here seeking spirits." Calia replied in response
to her questioning. "I seek a murderer, and simply ended up here
in my search."
But before she and her Panther Wolf could retreat, the woman
continued, drawing attention to the battle damaged land;
Speaking of the warring humans who were responsible. It reminded
her of home so much that it hurt! But she wouldn't allow her
face to soften. She wouldn't allow the tears to fall!
The woman's final words only added to her oddity. They were
dark, but also, hopeful, in a way. She suggested that
destruction could be a good thing! That it would bring about new
growth! Calia wanted desperately for those words to be true, but
she couldn't bring herself to believe them.
She walked to an area of charred land, and kneeled down. She
could feel the aggressive energy of war, though the scars were
old and faded. She took a sigh and stood once more. "Has anyone
ever told you, that you're a little strange?"
She meant no offense in her words, but she couldn't help but
wonder. It wasn't every day a stranger walked up to you and
started spouting their personal philosophy, after all...

The woman tilts her head again in the same curious manner. "I
suppose my ways would seem a bit strange." she assented with a
smirk "Yet you followed, surely i'm not that worrisome." As she
spoke to the girl she began to move her hands in a sweeping
motions in front of her. The breeze around them turns into a
gust of wind that sweeps the ash from beneath her into a neat
pile. Thick patches of grass can be seen where the ash once sat.
Waving her hands in an arc above her she gathered the soot in a
cloud, letting the earth fall from it.
'New growth cannot exist without first the destruction of the
old.' she muttered once again
Nitara bows and looks back to you smiling. "If your murderer
found his way into these woods my dear, then he is will find his
just deserts." She extends her hand to assist the other woman.
"However, vengeance will only only cause you to lose yourself."
The woman nodded speaking from experience. "We should be sure of
that which we request, especially here."

For a brief moment, a hint of a smile played on Calia's face. It
was true, after all. Despite her odd mannerisms, the strange
woman wasn't as bothersome as Calia had anticipated. Even so,
she couldn't afford the distraction. Every moment wasted only
got her further from her objective! She was preparing to make
her exit when the woman began making strange arm motions,
immediately raising Calia's guard once more! She took a
defensive stance, but stopped in her tracks when the winds began
changing, deliberately cycling, and moving to clear out the
debris from the ground.
"You're from the Wind City..." She said, eyes wide. "I've never
met anyone with the ability of Air before..."
She couldn't help but to stand in awe, almost completely
missing the purpose of the woman's demonstration. She stood
erect and looked at the grass.
"But there's a flaw in your philosophy." She said, walking over
to brush her fingers through the grass as Xanther sat and
watched patiently.
"Your statement suggests that this fresh grass wouldn't have
grown if the land hadn't been destroyed in the first place. Once
something stops living, it loses the ability to grow and can
only be replaced. There's no telling how lush and beautiful this
land could have grown, had it never been destroyed in the first
place..."
He headed back to her partner, listening to the woman's warnings
about this land, and revenge. She could only hope that she was
wrong. If just desserts were a certainty in this land, it was
only a matter of time before they found her as well, after all."
"I'm no avenger." She finally responded. "I'm simply a Soldier.
And my battle isn't over yet."She hopped onto Xanther's back and
looked down at the Wind Bender. "I'm Calia, by the way."

"I am Nitara of..." she paused ruefully. She had never
introduced herself before. The spirits simply knew with whom
they intended to speak. It surprised her how subtle social
nuances were lost to her. Her "tribe" hadn't recruited in so
long eventually everyone just knew each other.
'Not that any of that matters' she thinks to herself
"I am Nitara of The Red Air" she finished with a decided nod.
"Like you, death also brought me to these woods." With a sleeved
hand the woman bends down to pluck a white and red flower bud
from a bush. "Like the buds of this white jade that grew beneath
the ashes, so can that death give us a new life."
Packing the flower in a cloth satchel on her waist she looks up
to you. "Like the Avatars, one must die for the next in the
cycle to be born" she concludes. A spirit floats between the two
before pausing to rest on Kaze [b]"I wish to accompany you,
soldier? Our paths must've crossed for a reason, no?"[/b ]she
insisted, mounting Kaze with an air kick.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nitara."
Calia was slightly in shock. She had only been on this Continent
a few hours and she had met someone who could bend Air! She
wondered if there were Air Clans of all different colors here.
Maybe one day she would meet Chak, of the Blue Wind! and Sina of
the Purple Wind! She smiled at the thought.
The smile faded when Nitara said that she was also lead here by
death, though she didn't seem particularly upset about it.
Calia's eyes remained fixed on her, watching her collect the
strange flower and make her way to her Cat-Deer. She hoped
Xanther would behave around the beast.
And then came the best news ever! Nitara offered to accompany
her! Calia had considered asking because she seemed
knowledgeable, but it seemed too odd a thing to request of a
stranger! Now she had been spared the trouble and embarrassment!
"You're more than welcome!" She said, trying not to sound too
eager as Xanther began to advance. "Do you know the area well?
I'm afraid the trail has gone completely cold..."
She headed towards the Mountains in the distance, wondering if
her target had even come to this place at all. What if he had
been hiding in the City this whole time? What if he hadn't
survived the landing? Many questions traveled through her head
before she finally settled on one.
"What's an Avatar?" She finally asked, as the Mountains began to
appear closer.

"What's an Avatar?" the woman frowned at the odd question. "From
what estranged world do you hail?" She hadn't considered the
girl being from somewhere... different. A place where the avatar
was unknown. What was her world like? Assuredly no different
than ours if she chased her culprit here. "I am somewhat
familiar with The Spirit World, although admittedly this is my
first physical trip."
Astral Projection was a regular practice among her tribe.
Whether they wanted to or not.
'...Empty and become wind.'
"Now to answer your question. An Avatar is our spiritual proxy.
The supposed bridge between their world and ours." she waved
indifferently. "Although it doesn't do us much good when the
gates are opened. Honestly, it seems a fancy title and obsolete
notion for those too afraid to delve within themselves. A hero
for the helpless." she recalled. Kaze could be heard grumbling
something to her mistress which earned her a pluck on the ears.
"Brother Unalaq fell to his vengeance, his soul was not as
balanced as portrayed, beast"
she snapped at the spirit.
The woman looks over the her new companion. "Do you have
something of the criminal's? I can perhaps trace the spiritual
connections between you 2."
