       Kumogakure (Hidden Cloud)

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Kumogakure (雲隠れの里, Kumogakure
no Sato, English TV: Hidden Cloud Village, Literally meaning:
Village Hidden by Clouds) is the hidden village of the Land of
Lightning and was founded by the First Raikage. As the village
of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Kumogakure has a
Kage as its leader known as the Raikage, of which there have
been nine in its history. The village is located in a range of
tall mountains, and is literally hidden in the clouds. The
Raikage works in a large blue structure built into the tallest
       mountain.
Despite many issues in politics, resulting in four changes in
hokage over the span of less than 100 years, The Hidden Cloud is
flourishing. Leading the world in transportation innovation with
their different areal devices, from drones and gliders, to the
first Airplane, (which is still in production,) The Cloud is
doing well. They've used energy from the hidden Leaf to find a
way to artificially alter the weather. Though the technology is
still in it's early stages, there are high hopes that it will be
completed in the next few years.

Ay read over the message with skepticism. It was unusual that
the Hidden Stone reached out to anyone for assistance. Much less
the Hidden Cloud! The Raikage was hesitant to accept such a
request. But after his attendant convinced him that it could be
mutually beneficial, he decided to go along with it. "Send in
       Squad A..."

Tamui was still angry! He was the only one on his team who
didn't get promoted! Even though he performed just as well as
any of his teammates! He couldn't help but feel like the Raikage
treated him more strictly than anyone else just because he was
his son. Then again, if it hadn't been for that guy from the
sand, he would have had more time to show what he could do!
The frustrated Genin was skipping rocks when the messenger
arrived. Another mission. They had been extremely busy since the
exams. With two Chunin on the team now, they had higher
expectations of them, which Tamui didn't mind. It meant he got
to spend more time with Leiko! He made his way to his dad's
office and waited for his teammates.

It had been three months since the Chuunin exams; those three
months found himself with his grandfather, ignoring his
teammates and his duty to his country, but not necessarily
slacking off. Still remaining a slight of a boy, he had put on
extra muscle; his body hard and solid. The skin tanned from days
in the sun. But despite these changes, or perhaps because of
them, his eyes remained the same lackluster blue; devoid of the
intelligence lurking within; betraying the cruel shadows hiding,
       waiting.
His eyes were warm for only one person, his lips breaking their
stoic frown to form a smile for that same person. But, alas, his
grandfather's health was failing; Ryu having to take up odd jobs
here and there after the first month due to an accident. The
young ninja inducing his grandfather in a comatose state via
genjutsu, both knowing the old man would be going soon. Halfway
through the second month, the old man had passed though no tears
       were shed.
       They had offered to bury him, but Ryukyu had waved them away;
anger surfacing below the grief, two emotions he was unable to
handle well as the days would go on.
So, instead, he burned his grandfather's body; planting the
       ashes beneath a tree.
An advisor for the Raikage had visited him a few days ago,
telling him about the mission needed. His team had done rather
well for being only two people, but felt that the third would
probably be best. The boy had shrugged, offering nothing.
A humble boy raised from a single parent, not prone to violent
outbursts but never known to back down.
He felt some pang of guilt at leaving them to their own devices,
but it mattered little. They'd excelled because of him, and so
the guilt was silenced. His lips pursed as he began to whistle
softly, a tune that lost itself in the quiescence about them.

Though three months had passed since the exams, Leiko hadn’t
stopped training - her low chakra reserve worried her some and
she knew that in order to get better and succeed as a ninja, she
had to exhaust herself physically every single day. Her dark
eyes roam the vast area that surrounded her; the clearing was
shrouded with clouds of various sizes, blossoming sakura trees
also planted in random spots. It was a perfect place to train
and if one observed the aforementioned trees, they would come to
notice the shuriken marks, her own personal imprint. One would,
of course, also tell her off for ruining such trees but Leiko
didn’t care much for nature, she was selfish in that regard.
She could feel the upturn of her lips as she digs around in her
backpack to grab 6 shuriken before tossing them to the floor
carelessly, though she doesn’t waste much time - her fingers
making quick work of the hand sign.
       “Magnet Release Shurikkeeennn!”
First, the change in density around her, as she begins to form
her magnetic field, focusing on controlling her chakra but not
limiting it so it could attract the shuriken she had thrown
earlier, but before she could even begin to perfect her jutsu,
the footsteps of a messenger resonate through the region. With a
sigh and a roll of her eyes, she picks up her objects, stuffing
them back into her backpack, before leaning back against a tree.
What was it now? When he did appear, he had a smug smile on his
face, ruffling her hair before beginning to explain the mission
she was supposed to go on.
Her eyes light up a little and the moment he finishes, she
begins making her way to Ryu’s. The past few months had been
especially tough for him, having lost his grandfather and she
knew that without some sort of goading from her end, he wouldn’t
come on the mission. Even now, as she skids to his door, and
knocks impatiently, she wasn’t sure his answer would be yes.

He put a book down, one of the last ones his grandfather had
gotten him; setting it aside carefully, Ryu almost lazily so
walks towards the door. As he opened it, he spoke, 'I told you
before, go away. Nightmares won't be the least of your worries.'
Even as he came to stare at Leiko, his words continued; despite
the threat, his voice was neutral. As he finished, Ryukyu
stepped aside to let her in.
'Seems I am needed then.' He sighed softly, shrugging as he
       walked around the small house and began to pick up his gear;
allocating the items in the correct position. His eyes wandered
to the book, shaking his head. 'Enjoy your time with Routa? I do
offer some apology for my lack of attendance, but to be honest,
it seems you both benefited from my absence. A shame his father
couldn't see what everyone else does.'
Again, some pang of guilt rose within him, but it was diminished
greatly; especially now that he had apologized. But perhaps
getting out in the field again was what he needed, even if it
was for some silly mission. The house brought him down, the
emptiness; the silence. The simple lack of something that once
       was.
They were his friends, had been for quite some time; it wasn't
as though he hadn't wanted to be there for them, but he had
duties elsewhere. Now, perhaps, Ryu could give them his
attention. 'I see you've grown stronger, which is good. Always
       was a bit concerned.'
He left the small critique at that, knowing his mouth had a way
of getting ahead of him; it wasn't Leiko's fault her chakra
wasn't as strong as everyone else's; nor anyone else's for that
matter. How much simpler life would be if things fit inside the
       puzzle in his head.
The blue hues glittered dangerously as the gears behind them
       began to turn slowly.

Tamui tapped his foot as he sat on the bench outside his
father's office. Ryu had been largely absent lately. Tamui
understood. He was taking something of a leave of absence
because of his grandfather. Tamui respected that. But where was
Leiko? She was usually the one scolding him for being late!
Might as well get in some practice... He sat in his chair,
slowly forming the necessary hand signs for one of his
techniques. "Storm Release: Thunder Cloud Inner Wave."
It was a technique he had mastered quite some time ago. But now
he was looking to take it to the next level! Instead of the
storm cloud engulfing his body, he formed a tiny thundercloud in
the palm of his hand. Once he had stabilized it, he attempted to
move it up and down the hallway, raise and drop it in elevation,
even make it larger and smaller! Being able to control it
completely, even after it was formed was the first step in the
evolution he had planned for his technique...

Ryu lacked to comprehend basic human interventions; for
instance, how to greet people, but it didn’t matter, she was
ecstatic that he had invited her in, not articulating it of
course, but that could easily be disregarded too. She seemed to
do that a lot in his presence, his approach to certain things
wasn’t exactly pleasant and when he spoke, he held no particular
regard for how the person would perceive the words that filled
the air. She had half expected him to bang the doors shut, but
it was pleasant to see him do the opposite. She avoided his
reference to her weakness with a shrug of her shoulders, having
been working to better herself, and like he had seen her
physical changes, she could feel her inner body metamorphose.
“Hi, Ryu, lovely to see you too,” her voice was laced and
dripping with sarcasm, adjusting the straps on her shoulders so
the bag on her back tightened, before beginning to make her way
through the streets to the Kage’s office. Her mind begins to
wonder to Tamu; when they had gotten the results only to find he
hadn’t made it, she found it saddened her a great deal, and even
now, she was nervous. Not because of her, she tread around the
subject carefully but for what the boy beside her would spill.
As they make it to the building, she begins to walk ahead,
picking up her pace before she’s faced with the sight of Tamu.
It brought her great joy to see him again, smiling only
slightly, very cautious of the people surrounding them.
Abandoning her facade, however, she wraps her arms around his
neck, holding him for a second before stepping back, looking at
       everything but Tamu.
“Do you know what the mission is going to be?”

Tamui saw his teammates coming down the hall, but he didn't stop
focusing on his technique. It was difficult for him to focus
when Leiko was around, but after two years of being on a team
together, he had grown much better at it. He had managed to move
the cloud some distance, while maintaining it's density! But it
all faded into nothing when she wrapped her arms around his
neck! The looks on his face likely mirrored shock, before
turning to acceptance as he wrapped his arm around her waist.
It was hard to enjoy Leiko's sudden increase in affection, when
he knew it came from a place of sympathy. But still, Leiko's
hugs were always soft and warm. So he couldn't complain...
Tamui couldn't stop himself from noticing the way she avoided
eye contact though. Did she think that he would look at her
differently for becoming a Chunin? Or that he would see her gaze
as condescending? It wasn't a good trade off... Getting extra
hugs in exchange for personal distance. He didn't like it...
"I haven't heard anything, but it sounded pretty urgent." He
said, rising to his feet. "I guess we'll find out now!" With
that, he headed to the door of the office with his teammates.

'A shame no one can see what we do, Tamui. You'll make a great
leader one day. But I wouldn't take it too personally, instead
take it as a learning experience.' He shrugged. 'All any of us
       can do.'
Ryu had softened a bit in the company of the two of them; it was
nice, a break in the monotony of his current life. The lack of
socializing had left him mentally unready for most situations,
but his lack of caring gave him a knack for ignoring most
situations, and so Routa's rank mattered little to him; any rank
for that matter, save perhaps his Raikage.
He would enter the office with his teammates, humming a soft
tune that was barely above a whisper; his chakra murmuring
gently in his ear; a light chuckle, barely a breath, escaping
his lips. It was a hoarse sound, much like his voice as if
unused to making such a noise. In truth, that was probably
       right.
In his many weeks with his grandfather, who was as talkative as
Ryukyu was -perhaps less so- he had begun to explore the depths
of his own chakra and mind. Many nights spent laying awake,
trembling in fear as he slowly became numb to the nightmares
within; to the doubts and uncertainty's that plagued him. Ryu
knew it this was more of a self-inflicted genjutsu, a comforting
gesture one did when nervous; or out of habit as his was, but at
the time, listening to his own chakra had helped. But it was
hard to discern reality from the illusions from time to time. In
truth, he hadn't even thought Leiko was real, but enough people
had stopped by to tell of this mission that he found some truth
       in her appearance.
He knew there was something broken inside him, something missing
-moreso now than before- but he was unaware of what it was; nor
was he in a hurry to fix it. Perhaps when he was older.
Not that he planned on living to old age. Such a boring way to
       go.
His humming stopped as he stood before his Raikage, awaiting.
