Re: Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf)

The plan for the guard was ideal, except for the fact that Akito
placed himself right next to the entrance to the Conference
room. It was possible that he had something up his sleeve, but
that was unlikely. The more reasonable explanation was that he
saw himself as the last line of defense; The MVP. The records
would say that he was; Being the champion of the tournament at
the Chunin exams, but there could have been multiple things that
contributed to that. Regardless though, Raidon went along with
it, silently signaling to his teammates to be diligent not only
in watching for ourside threats, but to keep an eye on their
partners as well.
Of course, the same applied to him. Not that he would have a
hard time keeping an eye on Rikona. But then again, that was the
problem. He was given the partner that would make him least
effective. Quite possibly intentionally. Raidon didn't object
though. He made his way to the roof with Rikona, and perched
himself atop the raised door that lead to the steps back into
the building.
Rikona's cold demeanor wasn't surprising. It seemed not much had
changed since the exams. She still hadn't spoken a word. Simply
accepted her directions and carried them out. A ninja who was
seen and not heard. It wasn't a bad trait, but it could be a bit
offputting. "Nice to see you're as enthusiastic about your work
as ever..." Raidon said, hoping to at least put a crack in the
ice...

It was not long before Raidon had arrived behind her. She was
enjoying the silence until he spoke. Actually, that was not
exactly the truth. Silence was nice, but after a while it could
feel more like a cage than anything else. Though she preferred
the quiet over speaking because it was less demanding, she could
not deny that she was somewhat grateful to be made to speak.
Even if only this once.
As she attempted to summon up a decent response the words fell
short. A strange sensation settled within the pit of her stomach
as her eyes moved from the view to Raidon. Suddenly, she wished
Kara was there. She served as a mediator. Also, she seemed to
have a basic understanding what Raidom was thinking whereas she
had not the slightest idea.
"Yes," she said, nodding once. "Um..."
She blinked, realizing just how terrible she was at small talk.
Still, she felt the propelled to let him know that she was not
trying to be antisocial. A moment later passed and there were
still no words that came to mind. She didn't understand how
people could converse and ignore more pressing matters. Was she
supposed to pretend the weather was more important to address
than the information he had relayed the last time they had seen
each other? Perhaps she was. That was the way friendships
worked; built on pretenses and good intentions.
"The weather..." She glanced around then zeroed in back on him,
taking in every inch of his expression and appearance as well as
the things that surrounded him. "It's normal this time of year,
isn't it?"
Suddenly, the corners of her lips curled into a small smile. She
had successfully small-talked.
As quickly as it came, the smile vanished and her eyes returned
to their icy gaze.

It wasn't like Raidon to develop crushes. His entire graduating
class expected him to end up with Kara, considering how close
they were, but it was something he never showed any interest in,
despite her being arguably the most attractive girl in their
class. He just never showed an interest in romance.
But there was something about Rikona that intrigued the boy, and
he couldn't say what it was. She wasn't particularly friendly,
or energetic. In fact she was more standoffish than anything!
But perhaps that was a part of her charm! She was mysterious.
Raidon couldn't help but wonder if that charm would fade, should
the mysteries subside...
His eyes settled on the girl as she began to respond. A part of
him was simply pleased she didn't intend to give him the silent
treatment the entire time. It was posible this mission could
last for days, after all... But as the minutes passed, no words
passed from her lips. Raidon's eyes traveled to Rikona's lips as
she searched for words. They looked soft...
Shaking the thought, he looked down at the people walking by,
deciding that a response wasn't coming after all. The chances of
an attack were slim. With the 5 great nations allied, things
like that just didn't happen anymore.
Eventually though, she spoke! His eyes met with hers as she said
the word "weather." curiosity fed him a bit, wondering where she
was going with her statement. But when she concluded it, he
couldn't help but laugh!
"Quite the conversationalist we have here!" He said playfully,
jumping down from his position atop the door, and walking past
Rikona to look down over the edge of the building. The sun was
still high in the sky. They were truly just beginning. But the
pay for this mission would be more than satisfying.
"You know..."
He turned around to face the girl. Now able to look her evenly
in the eye, as opposed to the Chunin exams, where she had been
two or three inches taller than him. The past few months had
served him well.
"You don't have to force small talk. Valuable conversation comes
naturally. I'm sure you don't talk to your teammates about the
weather, right?"

Rikona heard his laughter and scowled. Although she had her
quirks about her, the man was rude to openly mock her for them.
Perhaps she had been foolish to converse with him. Silence
suited her. Still, he pressed her to go deeper than the weather
as he meandered to where she was standing and faced her.
His statement had been correct. Her teammates and her never
talked about anything outside of their missions. After their
fallout, Akito hardly even looked at her.
Distracting herself, she eyed Raidon. This close, she could see
the full color of his eyes, notice the faint lines that sculpted
his face, and detect the scent of his clothes and skin. That,
and she noted he had grown considerably since they had seen each
other last. The boy she had battled was coming into his
masculinity well. Since he was attractive now, she could only
wonder what the rugged effects of manhood would bring. Also, she
contemplated what it would do for his power.
"Raidon, why do you talk to me?" she asked, pointedly.
People did not talk to her, they avoided her. Unless it was
Kara, but the girl was much kinder than Rikona deserved.
She had assumed his confession to liking her had been a ploy to
distract her. Even if it had not been, her personality surely
would have pushed him away. Her cold nature had not seemed to
deter him, but rather, it intrigued him. Perhaps he was
searching for something that simply was not there.

Rikona's question was a fair one. Odd, but fair. People talked
to each other! It was the way humans interacted. But at the same
time, the two had met as competitors, and even now, it couldn't
be said that they were exactly friends. Talking to her was far
from a necessity. He sighed, and met her gaze, a hint of a smile
teasing his features in the form of light dimples. "At first I
didn't plan to..." he said in complete honesty.
"I was completely content with allowing you to be the beautiful
girl from the sand that I saw at the Chunin exams one time. But
with Kara, and the way everything played out, I couldn't just
say nothing. And after speaking to you that day, I wanted to
know more about you. So naturally I would still want to talk to
you now..."
Raidon turned away from her and walked back to the edge of the
roof, taking a seat before looking back at his partner. "So why
are you so adamant about being left alone?" One quetion deserves
another, right?

She gave what he had said some thought, then nodded her head. It
made sense. Though he'd be disappointed to know there was not
that much to know.
At his question, she blinked. Long wisps of hair fell over her
shoulder as her head tilted to the side and she looked over to
the other side of the roof and then back to him. His question
was fair, yet a complicated one to respond to. She had been
raised with Akito and their master whom was as easy to get along
with as a stone wall. The man never saw value in anything other
than hard work and power. Perhaps, that was why Akito was still
insufferable and she was the way she was. She had always been
trapped inside herself, unable to detach herself from what made
her desire things normal girls wanted, but equally powerless to
escape her upbringing that made her practical and methodical.
Still, that did not compensate for her lack of interaction with
those around her or her forbidding personality. It was not
because she felt inadequate. In fact, only Raidon had ever made
her feel that way.
Finally, she shrugged. "I don't enjoy the way people look at me.
Although, I understand why people are put off, most write me off
as quickly as they see me. If not for the oddity in the color of
my hair, then for my personality. You and Kara are the only ones
who have really spoken to me. I won't change who I am neither
will I try to be something I'm not to be accepted."
For a moment, she lowered her chin, lost in a sea of her own
raging thoughts. Then, she glanced back up, meeting his gaze.
"Are you and Kara together?"

Raidon listened to Rikona's explanation, considering her words
as she spoke. She was a social outcast. It wasn't something he
could relate to necessarily, but he could empathize just the
same. He couldn't understand anyone judging her for the color of
her hair though. "I think your hair is beautiful..." He
interjected.
He respected her resolve. She was unwilling to forego her
principles just to appease the crowd. But he couldn't help but
wonder if she had ever gotten the chance to really get to know
herself in such an environment.
Her question didn't surprise him because it was uncommon. It was
because of the way Kara approached her at the exams. Since she
had tried to play match maker, it wasn't likely that she and
Raidon would have a romantic investment in each other. But then,
anything was possible, he supposed. He patted the spot next to
him, offering her a place to sit down.
"Kara is my best friend. She has been since we were six years
old. I confronted her because I thought her red eyes were
Sharingan, and I was amazed that someone could unlock them so
young. She's kind of been attached to be ever since."
He smiled as he thought back to the simpler days at the Academy.
Before anybody cared about boys or girls, or dating. Back then,
everyone just wanted to be a Ninja.
"Gin is my twin brother. So of course we've been around each
other our whole lives. I was lucky to end up with the team I
did. Having a close relationship with your teammates, makes your
teamwork much better!."
He soon realized he had offered far more information than
requested, and chuckled to himself. "Sorry. went on a tangent.
Guess Kara's rubbing off on me!" He rubbed the back of his head,
slightly embarrassed.

Heat spread through her as he complimented her hair. She
stumbled over a 'thank you' and then accepted his offer and sat
beside him. Her body angled toward the edge so that she could
scope out the entirety of the area, she inclined her chin and
met his gaze evenly as he answered her question.
She smiled as she listened to him talk about Kara and then his
brother. The way the texture of his voice changed and his
demeanor slightly relaxed as he got caught up in the moment and
carried on, just showed how much he believed in what he said and
how deeply he cared.
She laughed softly at his apology. "Don't apologize. Your
rambling makes up for my lack of words."
Taking a moment to think over what he had said, she leaned back
and glanced over the roof, eyeing a movement in some brush that
ended up being just a stray animal.
It was difficult to picture him with a twin brother. That
brought up a string of questions she did not feel like she
should ask, but probably would just the same. There were so many
invisible lines in communication and she had not the slightest
idea where they were all hidden.
With Kara, she was not surprised at his answer, but wanted to
ensure she was not doing harm to the girl by speaking with
Raidon. Since their break from the exams, she had not known if
anything transpired. She had hoped something would with Akito,
but looking back, she was fortunate it had not.
"Does your brother look like you?" she inquired, peering back at
him.

It was true. Raidon's ramblings did fill the silence formed by
Rikona's quiet nature. But that was no reason for him to talk
her ear off. It just wasn't his style. Raidon had always
pictured himself as the strong, silent type. He shook his head
and released a quiet laugh. "I'm sure I can find a happy
medium."
When she asked about his brother, he thought back to the exams.
They had left the arena by the time Gin's match came up. And he
forfeit his match without even trying, so it wasn't all that
surprising that she couldn't remember. "We aren't identical. But
I guess we look similar. He wears his hair short and always
looks spaced out, or half asleep."
The more time passed, the more Raidon realized this would be a
long mission. But the company made it worth it. If it was an
opportunity to get to know Rikona, and figure out why he was so
intrigued by her, he didn't mind the uneventful mission. "What
are your goals?" He asked. "I mean, would you be satisfied just
being a ninja and going on missions for the rest of your life?
It doesn't seem to make you happy."

The corners of her mouth quirked into a fleeting smile as his
laughter reached her ears. Summoning up words in his company was
not as tedious as it was with others, probably because she could
be at ease with herself. At the mention of his brother, her
smile ebbed.
Without continuing on the path their conversation had taken,
Rikona became wrapped up in her thoughts that, combined with the
silence, served as an impenetrable barrier between them.
Although her gaze was attentively navigating the greenery below
them, there was a detachment to her expression- a lost wandering
that painted a vulnerability across the girl's demeanor. When he
had posed the question, she glanced at him. All shields had
returned.
"It doesn't matter what I would like." Rikona looked onward,
watching as a man approached the doors below, pulling a wagon
full of various produce. The man, obviously distraught with
flushed cheeks and a labored breath, said something to a female
who had come out to meet him. Their argument, whatever it was,
did not interest her in the slightest, so she looked past them,
further down the path.
After a pause, she glanced over her shoulder then rolled into
her knees before shifting her weight onto her feet and standing
up.
"I'm going to watch from over here." Rikona glanced his way
before moving to the direction she had looked to before.
Too many, or perhaps, too few, emotions swam within her
expression, making it difficult to winnow out a single one.
After taking a few steps, she stopped. "I could have beat you,
you know."
There was a playfulness to her voice. She then went to a
secluded spot on the other side of the roof and leaned against a
railing there, overlooking the ground.
