Dragons (No time skip)
By: Calyx Ochoa Date: November 10, 2016, 1:05 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The exchange with Marie had been more intense than Calyx
intended. When he returned to Cadence, His adrenaline was still
on high, so the project with the pool seemed like a good idea.
After spending a while adjusting the water and filtration
system, They spent some tie just enjoying the water. Marie had
already gotten ahold of Soraya so meeting with her would have to
wait. Calyx wasn't as proficient in the water as his father or
uncle, but he was at least a proficient swimmer.
He was floating atop the water when he turned to Cadence. "So
when did you first realize you could hear people's thoughts?"
He didn't speak the words aloud, figuring it best to get a grasp
on the situation before risking letting anyone else know. He
didn't want to have to ask anyone for advice. The idea of a mind
reader in the house might freak some people out, considering
they were all full of secrets.

He seemed so upset when he returned from his exchange with
Marie, but she did not want to press anything that he would not
willingly talk about. Instead, she enjoyed the time learning how
to adjust the water filtration system on the pool.
"Ever since I came here. It never happened back home." Candence
swam under Calyx, moving close enough to create a small current
to brush across his skin as she resurfaced. "It doesn't work
with everyone. Just you. It's a bit strange."

Calyx was glad that Cadence didn't press him about what happened
with Marie. That was a whole bucket of crazy that he didn't want
to expose her to. Of course, he wasn't very good at small talk,
so it may have been in his best interest to talk about something
real. That topic was simply out of the question though.
Her answer to his question took him by surprise. It was unlikely
that she had developed the power to specifically read -his-
mind. He didn't respond immediately, considering the possible
explanations before saying anything more.
It was possible that the event that drove her to the Dragon's
Den in the first place also awakened her dormant Draconian
blood. He was the first person she saw after her arrival, so if
her Dragon spirit was indeed a telepath of some sort, it may
have instinctually built some sort of bond with him that made it
easier for her to hear his thoughts than others. But as her
powers grew, it wouldn't be surprising for the thoughts of
others to start leaking into her mind without her permission, or
permission from the other person.
"Well how about this?" he spoke out loud this time. "I want you
to try to send me a thought."
So far she had only been able to hear his thoughts; the most
predominant ones that were formed into words. But theoretically,
she should be able to send messages mentally too. She should be
able to read emotions, and intentions, and who knows what else!
Of course these things all come with practice, but for now they
would start with something simple...

Cadence tilted her head to the right with a confused look across
her features. "Okay..." "My favroite thing to do s sit out by a
lake while reading murder mysteries."
Her features crinkled as she attempted to send her thought to
Calyx. Although she did not fully believe that she would be able
to pull off the simple task, something inside her told her that
it would work because of the bond between them.
A smile pulled at the corners of her lips as she thought about
the two of them, but, she wouldn't allow that thought to become
reality. Just because ht was the first one she met, it doesn't
mean that he is the one that her eye should settle o. Or even
that her her eye should be wandering in such a manner in a place
that she is still not familiar with. She needed to know more
about him, more about the land that they live in. At that
moment, she needed a friend, not a relationship.

As expected, Cadence was able to transmit her message
flawlessly. The question though, was could she do it
continuously, or while focusing on other things. Calyx smiled
and began thinking of what he wanted to say back to her,
intentionally avoiding sending a telepathic message to ensure
that she was reading his thoughts. "Murder mysteries, eh? I
think you would get along with my sister!"
He then held up his bare palm, a ball of water gathering in his
hand as he grinned. "You're Atlantean right? That means you
should be able to control water. Let's play a little training
game! I'm going to think about a random fact about me, and pass
you the ball. You have to catch the ball, repeat the fact to me,
then tell me a fact about you. Neither of us is allowed to
speak, and if you drop the ball, you're out!"
Raijuta was always straightforward with his training exercises.
But training with Ember had taught Calyx that sometimes you had
to be more creative. games made great training methods as well.
"Ready?" He asked, speaking out loud for the final time before
shooting the ball of water toward Cadence
"Before I turned 18, I had never left this realm without a
parent."

"Who's your sister?" Her voice rang out happily around them as
she looked down into the water below them.
"I'm going to warn you now that I'm not the most coordinated
Atlantean. I was always the one who could fall over herself,
while by myself. Don't ask. I can't explain it either." Her head
tilted to the right and turned to look at Calyx with a confused
yet amused face. A game to help her control her abilities. Maybe
this is the something that could finally allow her unlock her
truest abilities.
Cadence nodded her head quickly then caught the ball in both
hands with a stifled giggle. "Any reason why you waited so long
to leave the land without a guardian? I was 5 when I saw my
first Olive Ridley turtle." She tossed the ball back into his
hands.

"Winter, the one I mentioned to you earlier." Of course, Calyx
hadn't told Cadence much about Winter, only mentioned her in
passing, and her connection to the tragedy that was his life,
but even so, she had at least heard her name. "She's around here
somewhere. In the library if I had my guess.."
Her question was a fair one, though Calyx wasn't sure he knew
the answer. "I guess it's different when you grow up in a
different dimension from everything else. Everything on the
outside seems so foreign, and otherworldly. I only left to visit
my mother." Of course, that wasn't entirely true. Calyx was born
outside the Dragon's Den. Like Cadence, he had transported
himself, and his mother there in a time of desperacy, when he
was only two years old. But after that day, this land nurtured
him up to the man that he was growing into. It was home, and
that was all that mattered.
He caught the ball, and tosses it back to Cadence, this time,
high up into the air, before falling down directly in front of
her. "I've never seen a turtle of any kind." Now that he
thought about it, Calyx lived an incredibly sheltered life.

“I feel silly for forgetting about Winter so quickly. Please
forgive me.” Her eyes dropped to the ground for a moment before
they returned to his face. “If she is in the library, she has
chosen a great place to hide in the house. Surrounded by many
different dimensions, waiting to be explored by anxious
adventurers.” Cadence tucked away the idea of the library for a
later adventure to have with Calyx. Right now, they had a task
at hand and she could not allow herself to be distracted so
easily.
““Where does your mother live?”” Cadence still did not
understand how one could grow up in a land that held so many
mysteries but not wander the different worlds that existed
beyond. Then again, she did not know how he was brought up or if
he was curious like herself when it came to the world beyond her
home. Perhaps, it was normal for Draconions to only leave while
accompanied by an elder until their 18th birthday for their
protection.
The movement of the ball pulled Cadence from her thoughts after
it landed on the ground in front of her, wetting her feet and
shins. She couldn’t believe that he hadn’t seen a sea turtle!
“”That saddens me! Have you seen any marine animal other than
the fish that live in the lake here? I hope you have or else we
are going swimming when we have the chance so that you can learn
about the different things that live in the ocean!”” Her
thoughts ran faster than she intended but she knew that Calyx
would be able to understand what she told him, but, something
was missing from the moment. She looked down at her hands, only
to find that she had not made a replacement ball for them to
play with. Her index finger moved in a slow circle as she made a
frizbee that had a small layer of ice around it to keep the
water inside from escaping. “I hope this is okay.” She gently
tossed the disk in his direction as a smile grew across her
lips.

Calyx shook his head. "Don't worry about it. The two of you
still haven't gotten the chance to meet." He said. He hadn't
expected her to remember every detail of everything he said to
her. It was unrealistic. But he found it cute that she seemed to
feel guilty about forgetting.
It seemed that Cadence was also a book head. She and Winter
would certainly get along. Winter never had anyone to talk to
about the books that she read. It wasn't that Calyx didn't enjoy
reading. But he spent entirely too much time training to commit
the time that Winter did to the library and it's contents.
"Officially, my mother lives here." the transfer of thoughts was
getting easier, even for Calyx, who didn't have the telepathic
affinity that his father had. "But lately she spends most of her
time staying with her new boyfriend." Thus far, Calyx had yet to
meet the man, but he could tell how happy he made Imperfect, and
that was what was important. She had agreed to arrange a meeting
for them soon.
Cadence' reaction to Calyx' confession that he had never seen a
turtle was surprising. But then, after considering that she was
Atlantian, and her entire life had been spent with aquatic life,
it made sense. "I haven't." He admitted, grinning whenshe made
her demand. "Sounds an awful lot like a date..."
His eyes widened immediately! He hadn't intended for her to hear
those words. They simply came to the forefront of his mind too
quickly for him to hold them back! He was quickly realizing just
how dangerous it could be to be in her presence for extended
periods of time. With a slightly red face, he looked away from
her, until she sent the disk flying his way.
He grinned, and with his index finger, controlled the frisbee,
spinning it just over his finger before continuing. "Penalty!
You forgot to share a fact! That'll be one extra disk!" He said
with a laugh, creating a disk identical to the one Cadence had
made and sending them both her way. This was more fun than he
had expected!

He consoled her for forgetting about his sister, but, he did
have a point. She and Winter had not had any real time together,
so forgetting that she's his sister was easy to do. "I'm excited
to meet her! It will be nice to have another book worm to talk
to."
'A library waiting to be explored!' Her thoughts began wandering
to the different books and if they had any that shared interest
to the ones from Atlantis. The woman did not allow herself to
slip too deeply into thought as she watched the man in front of
her. Hell, even if she tried, she wouldn't be able to go into
the embarrassingly deep thoughts. Too many things that she did
not want exposed would come to light and she was not ready for
that with him, but their budding connection would soon work it's
way down there.
"You do not seem to be too happy with her beau, even if he makes
her appy. Why is that?" Her head cocked slightly to the left
before returning to it's natural position. Though she was the
last one who should be meddling in family affairs, she wanted to
be there for Calyx. Perhaps, he had something to get off his
chest about the man.
Her tanned cheeks turned a deep shade of red when she heard his
thoughts. "No....it's an....an....educational field trip! That's
right!" her head turned downward in an attempt to hide her blush
but when she peeked up at him, she saw the same red colouring to
his cheeks. Although, he was embarrassed for a different reason.
"You know, you're kind of cute when you're blushing....." She
looked up at him with a slight tint left in her cheeks.
"Dang it! I knew I forgot to do something!" Her eyes focused on
each of the disks as they flew toward her in a staggered line.
"You didn't give one either! Penalty voided!" Her left hand
caught one disk while her right one waved, causing the second
disk to turn into a pile of snow at her feet. "I have an easier
time with ice and snow manipulation as to water. I don't
understand it." Cadence smirked as threw the disk back to Calyx.
