Unsuspecting Village (Aren't they always?)

A small village of about 250 people, their homes are planted
between trees and other brush in the serene, natural wooded
landscape. Dirt and cobble create the main pathways through the
village.

Silence was brushed through the village as night fell. A cool
wind sweeping in from the west through the trees cooled the
sweat on the backs of laborers making the trek home from a long
midsummer day. Others, it caused a cold shiver to run along
their spine. They anticipated a cold winter with winds like this
skirting through the land. While the children where brought in
from their chores and preparing for bed in their nice warm
homes, fathers shut the doors and pulled closed the windows
while bachelors poured towards the local tavern to waste away
their hard earned pay from the week.
The village itself seemed to breathe a humble sigh as the day
drew to a close.
But this night, something else had rode in against the wind. The
leaves shifted on the east side of town and a faint glow of
purple lined the shadows in the trees as Zuberi watched the
small village settle down. He licked his lips. None would see
the morning this night. Zuberi crouched down and braced himself
against his hands and feet. His muscles clenched as his first
victim wandered towards his hidden perch. A simple guard had
made a grave error and wandered outside the wall past his post
to relieve himself in the deeper woods.
And just as the unsuspecting soldier made ready, Zuberi
descended on top of him. Under the powerful launch, the guard
simply crumpled into a heap and left Zuberi with perfect access
to land the killing bite straight to the man’s neck. With a
sickening crunch, teeth ripped flesh and there was once more
only silence.
Blood coated the monster as he grinned a sharp grin and began
his way toward the town itself. Zuberi lowered himself like a
cat to the ground for the hunt. Before the people knew it, the
beast was within the limits of the city and stalking for his
next prey. The fun for Zuberi would truly begin when chaos ran
rampant through the village. But first, he would have his fill
of the silent kill.
