"A grave robber?" Tala suggested with a laugh when Marrok
suggested she must be the opposite of a cradle robber, "No,
that's not right..." Feeling as though she could not stop from
smiling, Tala felt genuinely whole for the first time in many
years. There was of course moments where Tala could have said
that she was happy while Marrok was absent, but she had always
felt like a piece of her life had been missing. Any lingering
feelings of anger or sadness had begun to melt away.
Feeling his arms wrap around her waist and pull her close to
him, Tala knew she was safe and loved. As Marrok expressed his
love for her and his wish to never leave her side, guilt began
to creep up in Tala's mind. She had been so distracted by his
return that she had all but forgotten that she was keeping a
small detail from him about what all had transpired while he was
gone. The thought perished once again as she felt Marrok's hand
drop to her backside, lifting her from the ground, and planting
sensual kisses along her neck. She wanted so much to let herself
give in to the sexual tension, but she knew he would never
forgive her if she continued to keep her secret for too much
longer. Just as she was about to ask that Marrok set her back
down, he pulled away almost as if he could sense her
hesitation.
As Tala spoke of most everything that had happened while Marrok
was gone, she could sense the anger with Arcane bubbling up in
him. She was angry with Arcane as well, but she knew that was
not a battle that she wished to choose. Wiping the tears from
Marrok's cheeks with her slender fingertips, Tala attempted to
dissuade his guilt. "Hush, my darling. It was not your fault
that you were not here. And while your presence may have
comforted me, you know as well as I that it was nothing I could
not handle on my own," she said. She then took his left hand
into hers and kissed his bleeding knuckles. Such a superficial
injury was easily remedied by her magic as a warm energy flowed
from where her lips grazed his skin and into his hand.
Looking up again to meet Marrok's eyes, Tala's voice wavered as
she confessed, "But, my dearest, there is still something that I
must tell you about my life while you've been gone."

With a crease in her brow and her tongue poking out slightly
between her lips- a trick she knew was one hundred percent
likely to increase her concentration- the small girl lifted the
needle and thread before her silver-blue eyes, inching them
closer together at a painfully slow rate. But for what must have
been the hundredth time, she missed, groaning in irritation as
she dropped both tools to the floor.
With a prominent pout in her lips, Aelin reached out to scoop up
the ragged stuffed wolf at her side, yanking it into her lap and
examining it- years of dragging it around with her had left it
worn and tattered, marked with evidence of the many stitchings
to hold it together. Most recent was the tear along the stomach;
sticking her fingertip in, Aelin attempted to push the fluffy
filling back inside. Rising to her feet, she cradled the wolf in
her arms and trudged her way towards the front door.
“Mother!” She called out over the sound of her bare feet padding
against the floor. “Mother, I tried and tried to thread the
needle myself, but I cannot!” She lingered in the doorway,
frowning at the silence that met her, heaving a sigh as she
stepped outside, a soft breeze tugging at her fair hair.
“Mother, I need you to sew Fenris back up before all of his
fluff falls out…”
Her words died in her mouth as she spotted the older woman- and
the man that sat beside her. He was unfamiliar, someone she had
no recollection of meeting before, and so her steps were slowed
as she approached, clutching the stuffed wolf to her chest. As
she fell into place beside the dark haired woman, she eyed the
man beside her warily. The child rose up onto her tiptoes to
lean in close to Tala’s ear. “You have to say hello for me,” she
whispered. “I'm not supposed to talk to strangers.”

~Marrok could only smile as Tala wiped away his tears, He could
finally settle down and start a family with no interruptions.
All his life every time he attempted to settle down and put his
past behind, the vicious demons drug him back into war. Leaving
each woman he loved dearly. But now, now was the time he would
finally be able to fulfill his dreams. Marrok could not see
himself with anyone else. Tala was his and his forever, the
undying love he has for this woman can not be compared to any
other. She was his foundation, shoulder to cry on, and his
strength. Marrok's thoughts kept rushing through his mind, But
were brought to an abrupt stop as Tala spoke. Marrok quirked a
brow as he sat beside his love. "What is it my love?" He was
curious as to what secret she could have.....he knew she was a
bit distraught about something but was not sure just what this
something was. Marrok was about to speak again as the small
steps of a young girl came from within the house. As he turned
to face the front door, coming through the arch way was a
stunning young girl holding a stuffed wolf. Marrok's eye's grew
wide.~
~Once again his mind began to race, who was this
child?.......who did Tala go to after i left? His mind replayed
these questions as the child sat beside Tala. He observed the
two interact and saw similarities. This Child was no doubt
Tala's but who was the father. Marrok looked closer as the young
girl got on her toes and whispered in Tala's ear. Marrok's
enhanced senses heard what she said. Without thinking he spoke.
"Hello".......was all he manage to say as he stood up from the
steps and walked to the bottom only to turn on a heal and face
the child. As he observed a bit more, this young child had
features of himself in her. Could it be?......Was this child
his?......But how?....when?....Then it all clicked, that night
Marrok and Tala slept with one another for the first time. Tiny
pools formed once more as he reached his massive right hand out
to her. "I'm you're father"...was all he said.~

Nervousness had begun to well up in Tala's stomach and knot in
her throat. Returning to old anxious habits, she caught her
bottom lip between her teeth. She tried for a moment to find the
right words to tell Marrok the secret she was keeping. "Its...
its just that..." she began when the sound of little feet
padding from within the cottage and towards the front door
caused her to abruptly stop mid-sentence. She took a sharp
breath in, with wide, concerned eyes.
As she heard the small voice calling out for her, Tala quickly
remedied her uneasy expression to one of warmth and love. A
slight laugh escaped Tala's lips as the small girl whispered
into her ear that she couldn't say hello since she wasn't
supposed to talk to strangers."It's alright. He is no stranger
to me, sweetheart," Tala cooed before quickly changing the
subject."Poor Fenris!" she exclaimed, taking the ragged stuffed
animal into her hands and trying with futility to push the
stuffing back into its belly. "He'll be alright, my dear heart,"
Tala said with a gentle smile, setting the wolf stuffy down in
her lap and taking the small girls hands in her own, "We shall
fix him right up."
Tala had not forgotten Marrok's presence in the slightest, but
for the sake of her child, Tala had chosen to attempt to keep
the situation as light as she possibly could. When Marrok
greeted Aelin, Tala nudged the girl to indicate it was alright
for her to greet him back. But the words Marrok spoke next
caused Tala to become wide-eyed with concern once more. This was
not quite the way she would have chosen to impart that knowledge
to her daughter, but she reminded herself it had been many years
since Marrok had to practice the delicacies of interacting with
a child. Staying quiet, Tala waited to gauge Aelin's reaction.

Though the small child had been watching the man with a
carefully guarded expression, the soothing words of her mother
urging her on, assuring her that it was alright, provided some
sense of comfort to Aelin. However, all of that was shattered
the instant he spoke, his words- that he was her father- echoing
over and over in her mind. For ten years, she had wondered, had
prodded Tala for even the slightest information on her father,
receiving in return only the most basic information. Above all
else she knew that he was gone, that he had been gone since
before she had even been born. To stand before this man that she
had never met in all of her ten years and hear him claim that he
was this same person that she had sought for so long brought a
wave of confusion and warring emotions down upon her.
Stealing one more look at the older woman and finding her
expression very passive, a blank mask put in place to hide her
emotions away from her daughter, Aelin frowned and shuffled a
few steps forward, until she stood directly before him, pushing
her long tresses of hair away from her face and peering up at
him through her lashes, studying him for a long moment. “You're
my father?” She repeated, tilting her head to the side.
Her eyes narrowed slightly with curiosity before she reached out
slowly, hesitantly, to place one of her own small hands atop his
own. Then, almost instantly, she pulled away and shoved her
stuffed wolf towards him instead. “Mother said that when I met
my father he would like Fenris, and Fenris would like him too.
So the only way I'll know for sure if you're really my father is
if he approves of you.”

~Once the man spoke these words he turned to Tala, observing her
reactions and took her hand in his other. This child was so
beautiful, The thought that Marrok would be able to help create
such an angelic being was just a dream. But here she stood in
front of him. She had so many of his features that tied with
Tala's. He turned to his love more. "We did good baby" was all
he spoke as thin streams of water descended down his facial
features. As Aelin put her tiny hand atop Marrok's massive claw
he turned to observe her. She spoke to Marrok as she pulled her
hand away. Aelin pushed forward a stuffed wolf and this only
caused more tears to fall. Reaching forward he took Aelin in
his arms and picked her up with one arm while still holding
Tala's hand and pulling her up with Him.~
~Marrok pulled his love towards him as he smiled lightly. "Yes
Aelin, I like Fenris. I hope he feels the same." He smiled
lightly as he wrapped the two most important women in his life
in his loving embrace.~

As Aelin's focus had shifted entirely to Marrok, Tala allowed
the few soft tears that had welled in her eyes to fall from her
lashes to her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away with her
fingertips. For the majority of their lives, all three of her
children had been raised without their fathers. Tala had almost
grown used to the idea that she would have to continue to raise
her children alone, but the wishes for a whole family had not
been entirely dashed. Tala laced her fingers with Marrok's as he
took her hand in his. She smiled and nodded, agreeing that they
did indeed do well.
A smile and a muffled laugh escaped Tala as Aelin pushed her
stuffed wolf toy towards Marrok and insisted that he could only
be her father if Fenris liked him. She may have been a sweet and
innocent child, but Aelin was just as outspoken as both of her
parents. As Marrok lifted Aelin and tugged Tala to her feet to
embrace them both, Tala reached out and tucked a strand of hair
behind Aelin's ear and kissed her daughter's cheek. "What does
Fenris say, Aelin? Does he approve?"

A disgruntled cry of surprise fell from her lips as Aelin felt
the man- her father- she had a father, just as her mother had
promised her, and now he was here for real- pull her up into his
lap. Straddling his leg, she nuzzled in against his chest, felt
the safety and warmth of his embrace. And she knew, without even
the shadow of a doubt she knew that this was true and real and
magnificent. This was her family, together for the first time in
all her life, and it was even more magical than she had
imagined.
A combination of her swelling emotions and her mother's question
brought a giddy laugh to her lips, her sheer happiness gleaming
in her eyes. Clutching tightly to the stuffed animal, she lifted
him up to press his snout against her ear, tilting her head to
the side. After a few drawn out moments, she pressed him back to
her chest and gave a sharp nod. "Fenris says that he can stay,"
she decided. Glancing between her mother and father- her father,
for real, it was never going to stop exciting her- she added,
"He also thinks that you two are crying too much. This is happy,
isn't it?"

~Marrok finally had the family he has always wanted. He quirked
a brow as he observed the small stuffed animal. It was a wolf
pup, turning his glance to Tala he smiled lightly. Even in his
absence she kept him in her thoughts and relayed something of
his being to their daughter. He turned his attention back to
his beautiful daughter as he awaited the response from the
stuffed wolf pup. Tala and Aelin in his arms, his lovely
daughter spoke. "He can stay." Was all it took for the former
god to be welled with happiness. His lovely little girl spoke
again about the tears Tala and himself had forming. Marrok
laughed lightly. "Why yes it is my heart. These are tears of
joy. This is the happiest your father has been in centuries."
Just as Marrok finished his sentence, he could feel the presence
of two over powered creatures heading this way. He sighed "I
knew this was going to happen." Marrok stood as he placed Aelin
into Tala's arms. "My love, two beings are on their way here.
I think I know who they are but I'm not sure. Do not worry, I
am not going anywhere this time." He smiled and kissed both of
them on the forehead as he stepped off the porch.~
~Just as Marrok stepped upon the earthen crust of the beautiful
land, two massive thunderous crashes exploded in the shadows of
the forest. The over whelming strength of these two creatures
were all too familiar. He turned and looked back to Tala.
"Please go inside, It's Demarious and Arcane. It's time for the
fusion between father and son to come. They need me to help
pull it off." He smiled as he stepped forward and walked
towards the forest his silver locks swaying gently in the on
coming breeze.~

Tala set the child back down to her feet. While Aelin was small
for her age, holding her was awkward for Tala's small frame.
However, Tala still kept Aelin tight against her side as a knot
of fear twisted in her stomach. Marrok needn't have said the
names of the strangers that approached. For they were not
strangers at all. The experienced witch could easily have
guessed who they were based on the assault of their powerful
auras on her senses. As Marrok kissed both mother and child on
their foreheads, Tala willed herself not to tremble; willed her
legs to stay steady beneath her. Her hand almost reached out to
grab Marrok's arm as he stepped away from them, but she managed
to quiet the reflex.
When Marrok turned to confirm what Tala already knew, she pulled
her daughter's hand into her own. "Come along, dearheart," she
said as she led Aelin back to the door of the cottage, "It's
time for little ones to go to bed."
Fear and anger and grief wracked Tala's mind as she coaxed her
daughter along to her bedroom. Marrok's promise that he was not
going anywhere this time did little to calm her terrified heart.
She couldn't lose him again. With her perfect family finally in
reach, to lose him again would surely break her.
Lifting the blankets from the bed, Tala helped to lift them over
Aelin. Tucking her precious daughter in tightly, Tala began to
softly sing the same tune she had sung Aelin to sleep with every
night since her birth...
"Stay awake, don't rest your head
Don't lie down upon your bed
As the moon drifts in the skies
Stay awake, don't close your eyes
Stay awake, don't close your eyes"
