There Will Be Blood.

The sun shined and made its
presence felt upon the face of Alexander. It kissed his cheek
and to make matters worse, his handmaiden, Alyssa barged into
his room and opened up the curtains. "Wake up, Sir Alexander.
Today is the big day." She reminded him then scurried out of his
room. Alexander groaned while rolling over and covering his face
up with one of his pillows. The big day was the family from a
neighboring Kingdom coming to their Kingdom of Thirmos to
reunite the Queen with himself. A lot can change in the course
of years though but maybe his feelings can resurface once again.
Maybe.
Another knock came upon his door as his mother, Queen Eleanor of
Thirmos glided her way over to sit on his bed. "I'm getting
ready in a moment." He said, muffled with his face still buried
in his pillows. "They're almost here, my dear Alex and you're
still not ready. Luckily your father isn't here to see you not
ready." As soon as she said that, there he was, standing at his
door frame, muscular arms folded over his muscular chest,
glaring at him. "Uh, hi, father." Alexander waved a little as
his father shook his head. "I'm going to give you till the count
of two to get out of bed." His voice was stern and tone was very
direct. Alexander's mother got up and walked over to stand
beside the King now.
Alexander removed the covers from over his body and stood at
attention beside his bed as a joke. His father, Alexander I,
walked over towards him, pointing his index finger at him.
"Screw up this reuniting for me and I'll ship you off to a
deserted Kingdom. And there you shall not be an Heir." The
threat was made but Alexander knew that it was almost a promise.
With the nod of his head, the King and Queen left his room as he
walked over and closed the door behind them, pressing his back
against it in the process.
After a few minutes of bathing and getting dressed, Alexander
was ready to once meet his potential and future Queen, Atiya. He
reviewed himself over in the mirror before throwing on a fur
wrap and exiting his room, walking down the hall and the spiral
staircase that led to the lower halls of the castle. His family,
The King and Queen, along with his brother, Prince Alexander III
and their sister, Princess Elena. He nodded his head towards
every single of them then looked as their doors were opened as
they walked down the graveled road and stood there along with
many other nobles and royalty, awaiting their arrival.
"Remember not to screw this up for us." The King muttered into
Alexander's ear then stood up straight with a smile, as the
carriages carrying the Queen and whoever else she brought along
with her stopped right before them. When the doors opened and
she came into sight, Alexander gleamed a smile towards her as
the King looked at him then back at the young Queen. He'd wait
until she was a little bit closer to them before making an
announcement.
"My Queen." The King said with a smile while bowing down before
her then standing back upright. "Ah, Queen Atiya. How long has
it been, huh?" And everyone else followed suit, even Alexander,
who went the extra mile by grabbing a hold of her hand and
placing a kiss upon it then staring back up at her, locking his
eyes with hers. "How have you been, Atiya?" He asked while
smiling afterwards.

“Do not harbour doubts in your mind,
Atiya, what you’re doing is right.”
“And who knows?! You might even take a liking to him!”
Her friends words didn’t comfort her crazy heart or all the
frenzied thoughts in Atiya’s mind. After all, she was going to
meet her husband to be, a man who was a complete stranger to her
and no amount of consolation could ease her distress. But as
queen, such burdens were expected to befall her, and she had to
do all she can to try and stay calm through the long journey
ahead of them. Fingers fidget habitually, twisting the ring
right and left around it, and though no one could see, her legs
shook under her dress as she looks outside, to the blue skies,
and the birds as free as ever.
How she wished to be a bird right now.
When at last, the carriage stops, seemingly a century later, and
she peeks outside to be met with the gaze of the King, the
crowned prince and several other nobles, she smiles a gentle
smile, slipping out with ease and grace, that of which suited
someone with such a title. The girls that had been sent with her
whispered among themselves, their excitement evident and Atiya
can’t help but feel at home, even though she was miles away.
“Far too long,” she sings sweetly, returning the King’s bow with
a dip of her own, before looking to her suitor, noticing how
handsome, and refined he had become with age.
They continue to look at each other for a moment, on their
faces, some fleeting recognition of shared spirit, and uncertain
reassembly and when he takes her hand to set upon it, a tender
kiss, a subtle glow resonates in the apples of her cheeks, and
the amber of her eyes.
“As good as can be, and you?” She whispers, so only he could
hear, before inclining her head in sheer respect.

After Atiya had answered his
question, a soft smile had began to spread over his lips as he
reached and grabbed her hands, cuffing them with hers. "Better
now that you are here." A slight chuckle could be heard coming
from him as his mother stepped beside him and he released
Atiya's hands, stepping aside. "Finally. Another Queen here to
fill the void." She said with her hands in front of her in a
greeting manner then reached out and gave Atiya a small hug then
held onto her shoulders with smile, staring at her for a moment.
"Tell me, how is your mother after your father's death? Is she
holding up well?" Queen Eleanor asked as Alexander stood there.
"Mother." He said with clenched teeth then looked towards Atiya.
"Surely, my bride to be isn't ready to talk about such things."
Alexander went and stood beside her, reaching to place his hand
into hers. "Atiya, surely you remember Alexander and Elena." He
pointed over at the Prince and Princess then shouted a few more
names and pointed over there towards the family. He smiled a
sort of held her hand tight then looked at the ladies she had
brought with her. "Perhaps you should introduce your friends to
us."
The King gave Alexander a scowling look then stepped in. "No
time!" His voice roared a little but not in a mean, stern tone,
in a tone that meant they really had to time. "Don't want your
welcome back feast to get cold. Shall we?" The King extended his
hand out then sort of grabbed Atiya away from Alexander,
escorting her inside, leaving Alexander to stand there alone.
His eyes looked at their guards then towards the ladies behind
him. "Uhm.." Alexander cleared his throat then pointed to their
bags and to them. "Help them with their belongings then see them
to their rooms." Alexander then turned heel and extended his
arms outward in a welcoming manner. "Welcome to the Kingdom of
Thirmos, ladies. These men will see you to your rooms and hope
you'll be joining us for the feast?" Alexander said with a firm
nod before walking on inward towards the castle and finally
catching up with everyone else.
The King was showing Atiya what had changed and what was just
the same but sort of renovated. Soon, they'd reach the dining
hall, where the feast was already laid out for them and plates
already prepared. The King sat at one end of the table and the
Queen sat at the other end. Alexander pulled out Atiya's chair
and waited till she sat down to scoot it up some then take his
place right beside her. "Hope you don't mind but I've invited
your ladies to the feast." Just as he said that, here they come,
bumping into each other, taking in the sight.
"Ladies, please." The King recommended while waving his hand at
the empty seats at the table. "So, Atiya, will you introduce
your ladies to us, please?" Alexander offered while grabbing his
goblet and taking a small sip from it then looking at Atiya then
at her ladies, who blushed slightly when he stared at them with
a charming smile.

She hesitates for a moment, trying to
compose herself and while the warm reception helped in the
process, she did begin to feel out of place once more as the
Queen asked about her father, a wave of unwelcome memories
flooding her mind once more. This time, it was of her beloved
king, her kind father; in truth, her mother hadn’t handled the
death very well, she had been bed stricken for a month, her eyes
and cheeks had sunken in, making her look like a china doll, and
she was robbed of any colour in her cheeks but that was to be
expected, she was a widow to a loving, fair man. The woman
refused to eat and Atiya had to be her shoulder, and rock,
handling any political issues and sitting on the council in
substitution for their -broken- regent.
“She’s handling it well,” Atiya flashes the Queen a warm smile
before averting her attention and gaze to Alexander’s siblings,
inclining her head once more before being ushered by the king
into the castle for this big feast they had prepared. She
watched silently as Alex retreats, looking around at the grand
Castle, the staircase that lead up into the many rooms, the
chandeliers above their heads, and finally, the dining hall,
it's beauty beyond simple articulation, rendering her
speechless.
When her husband-to-be pushes out her chair and Atiya takes a
seat, she’s pleasantly surprised, unaware that in her mind she
was comparing him to the best man she had come to know her whole
life - her own father.
“Of course,” she muses, looking over at her girls, “that’s
Elizabeth, that’s Annie, and that’s Sophie.” Elizabeth had big
bright blue eyes and blonde hair, and blushed when everyone met
her gaze, she was reserved, more so than the other girls,
practically curling up in her seat because of the attention
settling on her. Annie, on the other hand, held her head high,
proudly; she had dark features, brown eyes like coffee beans,
and dark, black hair. And then Sophie, the closest to Atiya;
with auburn hair, and freckles dotting her cheeks and nose. She
greets everyone charmingly, and before long, they’re all
feasting on the delights they were served, and diving into a
world of laughter.
