       Start of the Record.
By: RC Date: February 8, 2016, 7:10 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
"I believe this is the planet that He told me to visit first,
though I have no idea why. I would say that it must have
importance to Him, but with the way his mind works he could have
just picked it at random. It would be very much like Him to do
so, make me overthink his actions just for the fun of it." The
voice appeared before the person who spoke did, though it was a
subtle distinction due to the fact that he had continued
speaking without pause as his body manifested in a clearing.
There had been no theatrics or fanfare to his arrival, one
moment the area was vastly empty and in the next he was there.
He was dressed just as simply as his entrance had been, a plain
white shirt covered his torso and a simple pair of blue jeans
hid his lower half from view. The only slightly odd bit of his
apparel was the fact that he wore no shoes.
As his voice fell silent he took a moment to take in his
surroundings, spinning in a slow circle. For the most part the
area was dominated by plant life forms of gargantuan size, from
his viewpoint they appeared to have a rough coating, mostly
brown and gray in coloration, with what appeared to be smaller
versions of themselves sprouting from them in random locations
though they all started several feet from the base of the main
plant. Attached to the extensions of the plant were even more
objects, those these ones appeared to be smooth and had a green
color to them. Directly in the center of the clearing resided a
       pool of currently unknown liquid.
He quickly decided that the pool was the thing that deserved his
attention first he appeared next to it, once more teleporting in
a simple fashion. He was caught off guard when he looked down
into it and discovered a reflection of himself looking back. The
surprise faded rapidly though, and as soon as it was fully
dissipated he reached out with an open hand directly in front of
him. Instantly a book appeared within his grasp, already opened
to the first page. He began to speak aloud, and as he did the
       words appeared on the page.
"First entry. Name of life form, currently unknown. Title of
life form, The Recorder. Type of life form, currently unknown.
Species, Keeper. Physical properties, tan skin tone, long light
brown or dark blonde hair, of average height and weight, lean
muscular build, eye color is difficult to determine but likely a
dark green or brown. Extra note, this is me. Further information
to be added at a later time. End entry."

It was another mundane week in the castle.
Shoxan had prepared for the day, slipping into a black striped
dress, and pulling a cardigan over her shoulders. She could hear
the guards on patrol outside her door, laughing huskily and
chugging down drinks. Probably wine. Her hair hung over her
shoulders, long, stopping just at the small of her back and she
held her book tightly, the tips of her fingers becoming blanch.
As she reaches her window, she pushes it open quietly, not
wanting to alert the guards. The girl got in trouble for leaving
the castle every time, yet she didn’t learn her lesson. She was
not a caged bird and refused to abide by rules that kept her
constricted. Constricted from a world of wonder, of birds, and
animals. Of rivers and evergreen. She refused to give up the
solace the outdoor provided for another day of forced dinners,
men laughing like horses and women fluttering their pretty
       lashes for their attention.
She makes her way down the ladder on the wall, covered in thorns
and roses, each stinging her skin and drawing blood, but she was
careless for that. It would all be worth it.
Since birth, she felt there was a power within her, an unnatural
force but she hadn’t spoken of it to anyone - it was a secret
that burdened her to no end. On cold, dark nights it haunted her
and even now as she reached the ground, the dirt instantly
tainting her naked feet, the conspiracies flew around her mind
and kept her somewhat preoccupied. She makes her way out of the
secret passageway, leading her out of the sturdy walls of the
prison she was born into and to the beauty of the outdoors.
For the last few years, there was only one place she visited.
The creek, in the heart of the forest.
She opens her book and begins to read where she had left off
last and before long, the voice of a man, seemingly writing a
diary entry interrupts her hearing. Her brows perk up, as she
moves through the opening, standing behind him and listening, in
       complete awe, to his entry.
“The Recorder,” she muses, holding the book to her chest now and
moving so she’s standing directly opposite him, “your eyes are
green. With little specks of brown and a warm orange, when the
       sun hits them.”
When she’s done, she takes a seat on the ground, dipping her
bare feet into the pool, enjoying how cold the water is against
her skin. The sun is high up in the sky, and the brunette
decides it would be a marvelous day today. And with that, she
places the book she’s holding in her lap, opening it up again,
       to resume her reading.

He lifted his gaze from his own reflection as he heard the voice
of another life form, though higher pitched than his own. At her
words his head cocked to the side slightly, before he began
speaking to the book. “Edit entry, The Recorder. Physical
properties, eye color is green with specks of brown turns
orangish when hit by sunlight. End edit.” His eyes lingered on
the new entity sitting just across from him, long enough that
for a moment it seemed like he would address them. However this
is proven false as he shifted his focus back to the liquid that
       separated them.
Unlike the first time he looked into it he completely ignored
his reflection and instead examined the liquid itself, noting
the ripples that appeared following the other life form placing
its feet into it. . “New entry. Name of object, currently
unknown. Physical properties, it is a blue-green in color though
this may be due to the reflection of the blue that is currently
blocking out the stars, it is a liquid or a liquid like solid
due to the ripples that occur when something is placed within
it. Special qualities, it is highly reflective, it appears to
contribute to living organisms as there is plant life below the
surface (Side note: Plant life beneath is too far to make a
report of, will have to find a way to circumvent this at a later
       time). End entry.”
The Recorder straightened his back, he had inadvertently bent
over in an attempt to better see the plants that grew beneath
the liquid, and turned his eyes back to the other being. Without
taking a step he appeared on her left, just a foot away, gazing
down at her. “New entry. Name of life form, currently unknown.
Title of life form, currently unknown. Type of life form,
appears to be carbon based. Species, unknown. Physical
properties, tan skin tone, dark brown almost black hair ending
at the base of her back, shorter than myself, build is difficult
to determine due to clothing covering her body, eyes are an
interesting shade of green. Extra note, looks similar to Him and
myself though appears to have softer and more elegant skin, I
believe this life form is female. End entry.”:
As soon as he finished speaking the book vanished from his
grasp. He stared down at her in curiosity for another moment
before bending down to bring himself closer to her seated
height. “You are a strange one. He told me that there would be
sentient life on this planet, but I didn’t think it would look
       like Him, but you do.”

The way his face was painted with such a brilliant -almost
amusing- veil of concentration, one would assume he didn’t know
or had even come across water before. The woman peeked up at
him, observing his nature, his indifference to her presence and
the entries, his words seemingly appearing at their own will on
the page. When he finishes the entry, she interrupts him, for a
short moment “this liquid is referred to as water,” before
letting him continue with his next entry, both in complete awe
and delight that people like this man existed. Has he lived
under a rock all these years? He seemed old enough to know these
things but his actions and words suggested otherwise.
She didn’t know she would be the object of his new entry,
laughing as he finishes, before tilting her head to the side, a
gleam of hilarity reflected in her emerald gaze.
“Name of life form,” she copies, “Shoxan but you can call me
Sho. Title of life form,” she stifles a giggle, trying to keep
her composure, “princess. Species, human. Female, definitely
       female.”
As the book simply vanishes, her eyes widen slightly. Shoxan had
read about things like this but had obviously detached herself
from the mere thought or possibility of mystical beings. They
only appeared in books, so how was this man so willing to allow
her passage into his world? This wasn’t a facade, that she was
sure of, but maybe he’d help her dig closer to the surface so
she can fully grasp what he is.
“Y’know. . . people would get pretty uncomfortable if they see
your book vanishing, just like that, into thin air. Us mere
mortal beings aren’t capable of such things. Which begs the
question. . . what exactly are you?"
Her confusion blooms like wild fire. If mythical beings existed,
all the villains and monsters she seemed to relate to in books
were real but all her life, she had been told differently.
Bringing her focus back to him before her mind goes into
oblivion, she asks yet another question, desperate to know more.
Shoxan didn’t seem intimidated even when introduced to a
different dimension, one she wasn’t familiar with.
“And who is this ‘he’ you speak of?”
The book in her lap might be of more use to him than it was to
her, and she smiles gently as the thought crosses her mind,
mentally making a note to give it to him before they part ways.

With each interruption provided by the other being his book
automatically updated the information accordingly. In this
manner it was able to record everything that had been said,
regardless from the source, making it so he did not have to
bring the book back after he had made it vanish. The Recorder
was quite grateful towards Him for creating the book in the way
that He had, it was really a brilliant piece of technology. And
it was the last bit of magic performed by Him, at least to The
Recorder’s knowledge, before He left this reality. If he ever
ran into Him again he would have make sure to properly thank
Him. The Recorder shook his head for a moment, bringing himself
       back to reality.
“Shoxan.” He paused for a moment as the unfamiliar name rolled
from his tongue. “I like it. It is a smooth name, and elegant. I
must ask though what exactly does your title mean?” He cocked
his head to the side at this question, prepared to memorize the
answer so that he can record it later on in his book.
His attention shifted away from his own question when the young
woman, as she had indicated she was in fact female, seemed to
become shocked at the disappearance of his book. At her words
his lips slipped into a frown, before he held out his hand and
made the book reappear. The action was so natural to him that he
never considered the fact that it could come off as strange and
potentially upsetting to other beings. He thought for a moment,
wondering what he could do with it, before he decided that he
didn’t care too much about how others would perceive the action
and let it fade from view once again.
“I am sorry if that makes you uncomfortable, but at the moment
it is the only means I have of transporting it with me. As for
your second question I am unsure how to properly answer that. I
am a Keeper, which likely won’t mean much to you, beyond that I
hold the title of The Recorder. Beyond that I don’t know how to
better describe what I am.” His voice faded out for a time, his
eyebrows furrowed together as he is drawn into his thoughts. His
first encounter with another sentient being and he was already
at a loss for words. He had not anticipated such questions, and
he had not been given the answers to them by Him.
Her next question however was one that he knew the answer to,
and was grateful she asked it as it took him out of his own self
evaluation. “He is the one who brought me into existence. He is
the Creator. Sadly He is no longer within this reality, else I
would call upon him to ask for a better way to answer your
       previous question.”

She noticed it was no longer a requirement for the book to be in
his grasp, even as she corrected his other two entries, assuming
it happened on its own will, wherever it had vanished to.
Extraordinary. This man knew the English language, he understood
her but had problems with the concept of certain words, and
evidently, hadn’t been exposed to certain things - water, trees,
her list was short for the time being and if this wasn’t their
last encounter, the woman was sure it would grow.
“You don’t know what Princess means.”
It wasn’t a question, her statement was a weak attempt to wrap
her head around the situation for it seemed he wasn’t the only
one being fed new information. Granted, the things she were
being fed were hard for her brain to swallow and it appeared
regurgitation in the form of quashing it all would happen when
they part. She wouldn’t accept all of this, surely? Though
ultimately, her silent debating proved she was swayed already,
       by this strange man.
“In Kingdoms,” she begins, her hand waving over their current
canvas, “such as this one, there are Kings, and Queens who rule.
They decide the fate of the land and the fate of the people
under their reign. The King's and Queen’s daughters and sons are
       princesses and princes.”
She watches as the book reappears, shaking her head when he
       apologizes for it being uncomfortable.
“No, no,” she argues, “it doesn’t upset me. I’m rather
intrigued. Not just about the book, but you.”
The emphasis on the you seemed appropriate. The Recorder; this
man was seemingly created to document everything he came across
and perceived as strange but wasn’t such a life meaningless? Not
to mention, his lack of temperament was somewhat disturbing too.
“It seems you are no freer than I am. You’re shackled by Him,
       and I, by the castle. . .”
And here she thought, she could live vicariously through him, in
the little time they had together. To understand what it was, to
       be truly free.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
He listened intently to every word that fell from the woman’s
lips, though a few here and there made little sense to him. He
did manage to determine the meaning of a couple of them via
context clues, such as kingdom. Through her motions he reached
the conclusion that the word kingdom referred to an area that
belonged to someone. The other two he figured out throughout the
conversation were king and queen, which he believed to be titles
similar to princess though apparently a better version.
He sat silent for a bit, trying to process the information he
had been given thus far. He had only been on this planet for a
few moments and already he had discovered a plethora of things
to record. While many may have been discouraged by this, given
that it was only one location on the planet, and only the first
planet that had been visited, it in fact brought a large smile
to The Recorder’s face. To him it meant that he would be able to
remain busy for an incredibly long time span and continue to
       learn for just as long.
These thoughts were not allowed to last long however, for his
attention was brought back to the present with Shoxan mentioning
how the duo was bound by outside entities. This caused a
confused expression to appear on his face, which was accentuated
by his head tilting to the side. He knew the word, and knew
enough about context that she was not referring to being
literally chained but rather forced into a set of circumstances
by an outside force. What he did not understand was how she
perceived him of being tied to one path.
“I think you are misunderstanding my position Shoxan. He is no
longer part of this reality and is incapable of forcing anything
upon me. He gave me a purpose and a means of fulfilling it,
however it is completely up to me how long I pursue it. I could
end up like Him and end up abandoning my path entirely, or I
could continue doing it but with changes. The only chains that
are placed on me are those of my own design. For the time I have
decided to stick strictly to what was lain out before me,
because I do not know anyway to improve it nor what other path I
       could follow.”
Conversations that he used to have with Him began to return as
he spoke, and remembering one particular bit of wisdom he leaned
forward a bit to close the distance between himself and Shoxan.
“He had a saying, the only one he would repeat, no one is truly
bound by anyone but themselves. They can always choose to change
the course they are on, but many do not in fear of the unknown.”

“No one is truly bound by anyone but themselves.”
His words echoed in the fortress that was her mind long after he
had uttered them and they left her rattled - the only thing
Shoxan craved more than the air around them was to be free of
her allegiance to the castle and her position within it. Though
she loved her family to no ends, she needed more out of the
world they lived in, it was a necessity for her to venture out
and explore things she hadn’t, to taste things and smell things
foreign to her tongue, and nose. How could she possibly shackle
herself? What was she so afraid of that she couldn’t simply
disturb the restraints around her and travel freely like the man
next to her whose magic was almost suffocating, though, in the
small time, she had forced herself to become accustomed to it.
“That would be easy for one like you,” her green eyes meet his,
       “I have a family here. . . a mother and father who’d be
heartbroken if I left and an obligation to the people of this
town, as the only heir. In my father's demise, hopefully long
from now, I would have to take his position on the throne and
become Regent Queen. You see,” there’s a tender sadness in her
voice as she faces the many obstacles keeping her from just
vanishing, “you and I, we’re different.”
And they were. Hypothetically, if she did decide to leave this
place once and for all, where would she get her means of
transport? To go back to the stable unnoticed would be close to
impossible, with all the guards on patrol and how far would she
even get in that time slot before the King realises his daughter
had once more disappeared into the woods, the unforbidden locale
for the royalty of the town? With a somber sigh, she shrugs her
shoulders, fiddling with the book in her lap in a pitiful
attempt to distract herself from the depressing thoughts. This
man, who in comparison to her, was lucky in so many ways brought
envy to course through her veins.
“I wish I were like you, to be able to up and leave, come and
       go.”
       But, she couldn’t.
       She was a princess.
It simply wasn’t in the cards.

The sombre atmosphere seemed to have little to no effect on the
man, as he simply stared at Shoxan in a reflective manner. In
reality he was trying to conjure up the lessons that He had
taught him about etiquette but he quickly discovered that they
had never discussed that particular subject. With this
realization his eyebrows turned down slightly at the corners as
a brief flash of red bloomed within his mind. He couldn’t
understand why He would have left him without such a valuable
piece of information, however after a moment of thought he
realized that He would want him to learn how to interact with
people in his own manner. The red inside of his head slowly
burned itself out and he was left staring at the woman.
The silence following her words did not last long, as he decided
to follow a strange sensation that came from some basic
instinct. “There are many ways in which we differ, this I cannot
deny, however in this regard I must say you are incorrect. You
have just listed the shackles that you have made for yourself.
Your...parents? Yes that was the word, your parents have not
physically bound you to this place but you allow force yourself
to by saying it is your destiny.”
His voice drifted away toward the end of his speech, and once
more a contemplative look appeared upon his face. For a small
moment in time he felt as though he possessed His abilities, for
he could easily read Shoxan’s thoughts through her expression.
Slowly he rose from his kneeling position and took to looking
around the small clearing as he attempted to decipher why he had
the urge to show her that she could break her bonds, even if
       only temporarily.
He gave up on that endeavor soon after taking it on, he was not
properly equipped to figure out the foreign sensation he felt.
Instead he turned his focus upon the task of freeing this woman.
Without a sound or movement his body appeared again on the other
side of the pool of water, several feet away from the location
       he had just been.
“My book is far from the only thing I can make appear and
disappear Shoxan.” The next words that fell from his lips came
from her side once more, though there was no pause between them
and the first sentence. “The only unique thing about it is that
I don’t have to be holding it to do so.”
Slowly he extended his hand down towards her in invitation.
“Take my hand and think intently of a place you would like to
       see.”

Inclined to reserve all premature judgements of the situation,
as it had become a habit of the brunettes to do so, she simply
tilts her head back, to listen, and ignore every fibre in her
being telling her to run for the hills and not look back. The
man teleported, seemingly at will, had a book that can disappear
into thin air, and was now inviting her to go on a quest of some
sort, anywhere she wanted to go. Could she trust him? The voices
in her head screamed no, but the small delicate hand that
reached up to slip into his denied her mind the pleasure of
listening to it. It was as if her body had a mind of its own in
that moment, more than that however, it was her hunger, to see
       something she hadn’t seen before.
She closed her eyes, standing beside him, and tries to think
about what she wanted to see, and it dawned on her, that it was
war she wanted to see. Not just any war, however, one of her
father’s trials and wins, she had heard many stories in the
castle - maybe this was her way of validating them. Though
Shoxan was foreign to war, she thought about it, as intently as
she could, conjuring the thought in her mind, and trying to
focus on it, everything else surrounding it becoming a blur.
She keeps her eyes closed, waiting, doubtful that it was even
possible, even though the man had shown her what he was capable
       of just minutes ago.
