Adonis drove her mad! Every place they visited he turned it down
without even giving it a chance. If there was a crack in the
cabinetry, he made it seem like the entire foundation was
wrecked. In a way, it was amusing to see him take up the role of
a protective father as if he had been meant to do it.
"I think I'll go alone tomorrow," she said, giving him a shy
smile. "We've taken up so much of your time already, I don't
want to be a bother."
Like the day before, Thalia was exhausted without an excuse.
When they reached his home, she helped him give her a bath, but
her movements were sluggish. After the bath, she made a bottle.
She hated that she hadn't been able to breastfeed, but she tried
not to allow herself to feel guilty over what she could not
change.
After feeding her, she put her to bed and then went out to the
kitchen to get something to eat. Thalia settled for some
buttered bread with a glass of milk before going over to the
couch and turning on the TV if it had not been on already.

The chances of Thalia looking for a place alone the next day
were absolutely Zero. Surely she knew that. But she had
attempted to put it into place anyway. "I don't mind. He said.
She had attempted to shield her desire to leave him behind with
a statement about being considerate of his time, but that would
be her undoing. "We're talking about the living conditions of my
child. There's no amount of time I'm not willing to sacrifice
for that." It was true. But it wasn't his only motivation...
Once Pandora was washed and put to bed, Adonis changed into a
pair of sweatpants and a white sleeveless shirt and made his way
downstairs, where he found Thalia eating buttered toast. "So are
you going to tell me what's going on with you?" He asked. He
knew Thalia well. she had always been energetic and full of
life. This exhausted version of her wasn't normal. And the fact
that she was barely eating only made it more obvious. Thalia
loved food. Not just eating, but preparing food, searching for
new recipes, or finding new places to eat. She was clearly out
of character. A straight and serious face looked down at the
clearly exhausted Goddess, awaiting an explanation...

As he descended the stairs in sweats and a simple sleeveless
shirt, she was tormented with nostalgia. All those mornings of
waking up with him were still vividly etched into her mind. She
recalled wanting merely to see him during her time away, but she
knew now not even that was sufficient. It was a new kind of hell
to have him so close finally, yet further away than before.
"What?" She blinked.
Had he suddenly obtained an uncanny ability to read her
thoughts?
When she realized what he meant, she gave a dry chuckle. She
turned off the television and placed her glass down on a table
beside the couch. Then, she met his gaze and shrugged with
nonchalance that she did not feel.
"Besides the obvious?" she asked, raising a brow pointedly. "I
got sick. Now I'm recovering. The Bachelor is on, would you like
to watch it with me? I find the whole show kind of cheesey, but
there's a game coming on shortly and I'm not about to miss the
beginning."
She placed herself against the edge of the couch, making room
for him in the opposite end if he so chose to join her.
The last thing she wanted to talk about was herself some more
and since he would not talk about anything other than the baby,
she would much rather pretend to watch a show in silence. But
she doubted he would watch anything with her. The whole
situation was a mess and an annoying voice in the back of her
mind constantly reminded her whose fault it was. She was tired
of listening to it and dealing with Adonis being so near while
contempt was evident. It was all so suffocating.
She sighed heavily and abandoned her place on the couch.
"I'm going to let Avalanche out for a bit," she mumbled, more so
to herself. Then, she led the husky outside and shut the door
behind her.

Quizzical eyes landed on the Goddess as she stated that she was
recovering from sickness. Adonis knew that she was, in fact, a
demigod. But he was still perplexed that she was plagued with so
many mortal risks, such as drowning, or illness. He couldn't
help but wonder what kind of disease could have such a drastic
effect on the body of a diety, even if she was indeed half
human. But as usual, she seemed unwilling to talk to him, so he
let the question wave in the still air around his mind.
More questions still, arose in his eyes when Thalia asked if he
wanted to watch "The Bachelor." That didn't sound like her at
all! But she quickly explained her reasoning, and that -did-
sound like her! "Who's playing?" He asked, taking a seat with
his back against the arm of the couch, and turning to look a the
tv, which was still off.
It wouldn't be long before she abandoned her position on the
couch, using Avalanche as an excuse to leave his company. His
eyes leveled on her naked ring finger as she left the room; The
ring that should have been decorated with his promise to commit
his life to her... Perhaps attempting to make nice was really
impossible for them at this point. With a sigh, He got up and
headed back to his room. He already knew he was going to have to
fight with sleep in order to command it on that night..

She was fidgeting, but not on purpose. It was difficult to
remain still as scissors were pulled out. After months of trying
to grow her hair out, that was the last thing she wanted to see.
She tried to put on a calm expression, but she was never good at
downplaying her emotions. The hairdresser started to snip away,
leaving behind a much more even cut. When she had finished, her
hair fell just a few inches below her chin. It did not look
great, but it was doable.
She thanked the woman and then returned home. Well, not home,
but she had no other word to call it. Adonis had yet to settle
on a place and she had nearly given up trying. Pandora was safer
with him anyways.
After the first few weeks, Adonis and Thalia had learned to
coexist together peacefully. It was awkward, but nothing like it
had been at first.
At the house, she walked in with her fingers combing through her
hair. It was a lot more comfortable without the wig, but she
worried about what Adonis would think of it. Not that she
should, but she did.
"Hey," she said, once she had located him. Thalia could not
bring herself to look him in the eye. "I have a favor to ask of
you, but please don't feel like you have to do it. Though, it is
almost impossible to resist my charm, I've been told."
Thalia flipped her hair theatrically as she grinned. Then, she
quickly sobered and bit her bottom lip. "So, there's a thing
that a friend is wanting to go to and I think we both could use
a break. In short, I need a da-..." She stiffened and rethought
what she was about to say. "Tag-a-long buddy and I was wondering
if you would go with? But of course if you don't want to, I
always can tie you up and kidnap you."
Thalia watched him, looking for any signs of anger or
disinterest. There was nothing wrong with him declining the
offer, in fact, she suspected he would. She was not entirely
sure why her palms were so sweaty or why her heart was racing.
No, that was untrue. She knew exactly why she was nervous, but
she would not allow the truth to sink in.

Adonis was on the couch, half-watching TV while Pandora slept in
in a playpin next to the couch. she had tuckered herself out
playing with the knobs on the side and now rested peacefully. He
heard the door open, but lost in his own thoughts, he didn't
think to turn and greet Thalia. He had grown accustomed to her
presence in the house, even added a room for her to sleep in,
since it was clear things between them weren't changing. She was
his roommate and co-parent. But that was better than nothing,
right?
When she said she had a favor to ask, he turned to look at her.
When his eyes settled on her, a smile crept onto his face and he
got up off the couch and walked around to where she stood. It
was clear where she had been messing in her hair, most likely
out of nervousness. He fixed it for her, and then gave it
another look. He had never seen her with short hair before.
"I like it." He said, all but ignoring her statement about
having a request.
"That would explain your tips!" He said, returning to his seat,
and waiting for her to join him and explain her request.
Her inability to use the word date was amusing, but Adonis
understood it. They were in an incredibly awkward spot, suddenly
being a part of each other's lives again, and though they had
grown to tolerate each other, there had never been any talk of
returning to a romantic relationship. He had to resist the urge
to make a comment about her tying him up. That had always been
fun in the past, after all...
"Sure, I'll be your "tag-along-buddy."" There were air quotes
around the words. "Not that I would have said no to being your
date..." The words floated casually off his lips as he hopped
over the back of the couch, and headed for the stairs. He wasn't
as reserved as Thalia, after all. "So what kind of thing is it?
How should I dress?" Once he had his answer, he would disappear
up the stairs.

He became too close when he had gotten off the couch and went
over to her to fix her hair. The scent his skin carried brought
back suppressed memories and with them, dangerous emotions. A
glint appeared in her eyes as she watched him. What she wouldn't
give for his hand to wander down to her chin, lift it, and draw
her close. If only he desired to consume her with the fire his
touch carried with it, instead of simply teasing her with it.
"Like it?" She blinked. "The hair? Oh, yes. I despise it."
She turned her back to him as she went around the opposite side
of the couch and then sat in her usual spot which was as far
away from his as possible. Their daughter was fast asleep in her
playpen. The baby was starting to take on more and more of
Adonis' features.
She scoffed at his next words and raised her brow unbelievably
at him. "You would have? Just like you will say yes to a place
for me and her to live?"
Moments later, he was halfway to the stairs. "Tux. Like James
Bond mixed with Will Smith, tux."
She wasn't sure if that was even possible, but if it were, it
would be awesome.
-
"You ready?" Thalia asked, appearing at his bedroom doorway
dressed in a short black dress.
After the months of recovery, her body had obtained its original
state. She finally felt somewhat normal again.
Her gaze lingered on him as she thought about the last time she
had seen him so dressed up. It seemed like another lifetime ago.
So much had changed, but there was one thing still very much the
same. Her gaze dropped, falling away from Adonis. She knew
better than to bring up the past, but...
"Adonis, do you-"
The doorbell interrupted her. Thalia remembered herself and
cleared her throat.
"Here," she said, stepping forward. "Your collar is wrinkled."
She stood in front of him and reached behind his neck to
straighten his collar. It was hard to be in such close proximity
with him. Could he sense it? He was the god of love,.afterall.
Her lips parted as she tried to think up something to say, but
nothing came out.
Her hands retracted from around his neck.
Her brows wrinkled as her lips twitched. She shut her eyes,
focusing. "I-I mean your jacket looks-"
The doorbell ringing cut her off again.
"The doorbell," she said, stepping back as she cane to her
senses. "They're here. I'll get it."
Thalia tried to conjure up some sort of joke to disable her
nerves, but none came to mind. So, she merely went downstairs
and cursed herself for being so careless.
Avalanche came up behind her, nudging her leg with his nose as
they walked. She glanced down into his knowing eyes.
"Yes, I know," she muttered beneath her breath. "I am repressed
and tired. Don't judge."
The dog barked, but she doubted it was in response to her words.
When she opened the door, she smiled, willing away the stray of
pink that was sure to be on her cheeks. Liz and Mat were
standing there along with another couple who she did not
recognize.
"Hello." Thalia glanced between the four.
They all uttered greetings with reflected smiles.
"Um," she said as she looked at the two she did not know.
"Adonis will be right down. I'm sorry, but I don't think we've
been introduced?"
Liz grinned. "No, of course not. This is Lexie and Darrin."
The blonde nodded along with the man. The woman was gorgeous and
she looked very nice. She looked like someone had cut her out of
a magazine. Thalia instantly liked her, but not because of her
looks. The woman's smile was contagious and her eyes shown in a
gentle manner.
The man was handsome and seemingly a good fit for the woman,
though he appeared a bit bored.
Thalia nodded in response, but she was still confused.
"We knew you needed dates, so Mat called up his friend and his
cousin was available for Adonis," said Liz, still grinning as if
she had just given her a million dollars.
Her eyes went straight back to the woman. The woman was perfect
and she despised everything about her.
"Is that alright?" Liz asked, looking uncertain as she watched
Thalia. "It's just you said it may be awkward because you guys
aren't together, right?"
Thalia opened her mouth and shut it. There was nothing she could
say. Liz was right.
"Right, no, of course," assured Thalia. "I mean, as long as
Adonis is fine by it. Let me go tell Pandora goodbye and grab my
purse."
Once she had, she returned outside, ready to leave. She had
managed to convince herself that it was not such a terrible idea
afterall. If nothing else, the woman would probably have an
unfortunate illness and have to leave early.

Adonis wasn't surprised when Thalia said she didn't like her
hair. He knew she had always taken pride in her long, flowing
hair. Adonis had always liked it too. But the change was nice
too. He had a feeling she would grow to love it, given some
time.
Her attitude when he said he would have agreed to be her date
was pretty much as expected. It was the way she acted to keep
him at a distance. It was the way he knew that whatever they had
was in the past. "Don't blame me because you can't find a decent
place!" He said with a laugh. They both knew that their living
situation was likely to be permanent, at least until Pandora was
older. But they played this game anyway.
Adonis shook his had when Thalia told him how she expected him
to look. he made a "pssh" sound before turning back to her. "As
if you'd be able to keep your hands off me long enough for us to
go anywhere!" He knew well who her favorite men were, and even
when they were together, he would have had a hard time competing
with Will Smith.
------
"Yeah, almost done." He said, turning to see the Goddess in the
doorway.
It sucked that Thalia was so hot. Seeing her in that dress,
Adonis' first thought was 'quickie before we leave?' As if that
was an option... He played it cool though. It was a talent of
his; One that Thalia never possessed. But he never called her
out on it. More than likely it was a battle of what her body
wanted vs. what her heart wanted. and Adonis wouldn't involve
himself in something so messy. He stood still as she adjusted
his collar, and smiled as she complimented his jacket. As usual,
he didn't speak on her slip up.
A few minutes later he made his way down the stairs. After
examining everyone's faces, it didn't take long for him to
realize what was happening. The unknown man and woman... They
clearly weren't together. Thalia seemed thrown off, and and Liz
triumphant. She had arranged dates for the two of them! So much
for "tag along buddies!" This could be fun!
Adonis made his way over and greeted everyone before speaking to
the woman. "You must be my date. I'm Adonis. It's a pleasure to
meet you!" He said, politely planting a kiss on the back of her
hand. In response, she giggled. "Well what a gentleman! I'm
Alexandria, but you can Call me Lexie!"
"I'll do just that then!" Adonis said with a smile. After
kissing Pandora, he made his way out with the group, arm in arm
with Lexie before opening the car door for her. This was bound
to be an interesting night.

Thalia worked hard to restrain the emotions bubbling up within
her gut as Adonis greeted the girl. He did not seem put off by
the change of events in the least. In fact, he appeared to he
enjoying it. As they linked arms and went off, she was already
contemplating murder.
There were two cars. Liz and Mat rode in one, and the other was
for Adonis and Thalia along with their dates. Adonis and Lexie
got the back seat to Thalia's dismay. She hardly noticed Darrin
open the car door for her. He did not seem to notice her lack of
thanks either. Once they were settled, Darrin started to drive.
"So, Lexie, what do you do?" asked Thalia, glancing up into the
review mirror to get a glimpse of the girl.
The girl smiled back. "I'm a pediatric nurse. I also do
gymnastics when I'm able to."
Gymnastics? Well, that explained why her body was in such good
shape.
Shoot me now, she thought silently to herself.
"Oh, that's neat. Like teaching gymnastics?" asked Thalia,
raising a brow.
The girl shrugged nonchalantly. "Some, but I am training for the
Olympics at the moment."
"Of course you are," Thalia muttered beneath her breath without
meaning to.
Leaning forward, the girl wrinkled her brows. "I'm sorry?"
"Four course bar," Thalia said, giving the girl a small smile.
"I hope they have a good food bar because I'm starving."
Lexie smiled and nodded before sitting back.
This girl was too good to be true! She was intelligent, modest,
kind, flexible, and clearly beautiful.
It was not long before they arrived at the casino. They found
Mat and Liz at the entrance, waiting on them.
"I call blackjack!" exclaimed Liz tugging Matt along, but not
before she had 'accidentally' pushed Thalia into Darrin.
Darrin scowled at Liz and took a purposeful step to the side
away from Thalia.
"Russian Roulette then?" Darrin said without looking at her.
Thalia glanced at Lexie and Adonis. Lexie nodded in response.
"Sounds fun!" she replied, so they headed to the table.
Thalia was not so stupid to flaunt her powers in public, but she
deeply wished she could. If Hera could detect her powers, she
could find out where she was and show up unannounced. No, if she
wanted to win, she would have to do it without any special
abilities.
At the end of it, Thalia had lost all her money and Lexie had
won a hundred times what she put in. This date was not going as
planned at all!

Adonis could tell when Thalia was irritated, and this was
definitely one of those times. She was digging into Lexie pretty
hard, though she was at least able to be discreet about it.
Adonis wasn't surprised, really. After all, her date wasn't very
engaging. How was it that the Goddess of luck gets paired up
with a guy who didn't even seem to want to be there, and he got
the hot gymnast nurse? It was all pretty funny actually.
"That's really impressive!" Adonis said, chiming in before
Thalia sold herself out. "Maybe you could give Pandora some
tumbling lessons when she gets a bit older!"
"That sounds like a lot of fun!" She said, turning her attention
back to Adonis once more. "Maybe we can make her into a Gold
medalist!" In his mind, Adonis could only think of how unfair
that would be. Those mortal women wouldn't have a chance
competing against a Goddess with the same training. But he
smiled and convincingly agreed nonetheless.
At the Casino, Adonis couldn't help but smile as he took
everything in.There was no way he could be there without
thinking of his first visit to a Casino with Thalia. That was a
night full of twists and turns, and it turned into an adventure
that would last forever! Or so he thought...
He shook the thought as their hosts pushed Darrin into Thalia in
their haste. They were far from discreet in their intentions.
The separate cars, taking off on their own on their arrival. It
was clear what they were up to. But they weren't watching well
enough to see that it wouldn't work.
The two remaining couples agreed to the roulette table. On the
very first round, Adonis followed Lexie to Black 14, leading to
their first win. The next round, Lexie followed Adonis to Red
19, leading to their second! They laughed and hugged each other,
and agreed to bet together for the duration of their time at the
table. They made a killing! But Thalia wasn't doing so hot,
being forced to hold back even the slightest bit of her power.
Adonis actually felt pretty bad for her. Surely she wasn't used
to this.
Adonis checked his watch. It had only been just over an hour
since they arrived. It wasn't quite 9 o' clock yet. "What do you
guys say we go to the fair? It's it's last week in town, isn't
it?" Honestly, he wanted to spare Thalia of her suffering, but
he wouldn't tell her that. He looked around for everyone's
opinions. Surely Thalia and Darrin wouldn't object. They weren't
winning anything anyway! But Lexie might want to stay while her
streak was hot!
