"It's not that simple," she whispered. The sound of her whisper
was a harsh contrast compared to his angry outburst, against her
ears.
They were beginning the same way they had ended things. And she
was tired of him being so angry! Yes, he had every right to be,
but she was hurting too! Swallowing her pride, she shook her
head and looked away.
"I wanted to, I'm sorry." More apologies. That will surely warm
him up.
She closed her eyes and flexed her hands into fists before
releasing them once more. She should have driven here instead of
teleporting herself. Having spent a good amount of energy coming
here, she had little to keep going on. Thalia wiped her brow,
ridding it of the moisture that had been building up.
The doctors had pressed her to stay another day or two for
observation, but she had waited long enough to let him know.
There was no way she was going to let him know in a letter or a
phone call. She turned from him, putting her hand on the
doorknob in preparation to go outside.
"I'll bring her by tomorrow if you'd like." She needed to get
out of here and into the cool air. She was starring to feel sick
and the scent of greasy, salty food was not helping nor was the
emotions he was stirring.

Adonis sighed as Thalia rebutted that it "wasn't that simple"
She had taken something incredibly simple, like "Til Death do us
part" and turned it into a labyrinth of complex concepts like
"You have a daughter you've never met." Even the game seemed
insignificant now, and it was something he had been looking
forward to all season!
It wasn't the apologies that made Adonis angry, it was the lack
of explanations. How he was always in the dark. It was the fact
that the more she told him, the less he seemed to know. It was
how she could take such extreme measures to ensure his safety,
but not give him the opportunity to care for hers! She was the
one holding all the cards, while he sat back and waited ten
months for them to be played. But she didn't seem to get it,
even now.
When she turned to leave, and said she would bring the baby by
the next day, Adonis shook his head. "Where are you staying?" He
asked. "I'll take you myself." She didn't look well enough to be
wasting the energy teleporting anyway, besides. Adonis would
never sleep knowing that he had an unknown daughter out there!
To hell with the game! He wanted to meet his child!

Thalia agreed with a simple nod of her head. Even she wanted to
argue, she would be pushing her luck and her body did not have
enough strength to withstand an argument.
"Pennsylvania," she said, then gave him an address.
They arrived at a homey cottage nestled within a few trees. The
neighborhood was quiet with streetlamps illuminating the
sidewalks in dull, yellow glows.
"Wait here, please," she said once they had made it to the end
of the sidewalk that led up to a porch.
She knocked on the door and a moment later, a blonde haired
woman with fair features answered. They exchanged pleasantries
before a man came up, cradling the baby. She carefully took
their daughter who was fast asleep within the green blanket.
Neither the man or the woman asked who Adonis was, only said
goodbye after Avalanche came running around the corner and out
the door. He pounced on Adonis as if having sensed him there as
soon as they had arrived. He attempted to lick his face, but
Thalia instructed him to sit as the couple shut the door behind
her.
Thalia held the baby out for Adonis to see her.
"I named her Pandora Adaira," she whispered, smiling down at the
babygirl. "Can you hold her?"
She wanted badly to hold her after not seeing her for so long,
but her arms felt like weights.
"We're not staying too far from here," she said, not meeting his
gaze as she gave him the address.
When they arrived, they were standing in front of a shelter in
the parking lot.

Adonis didn't pay any more mind to the man and woman than they
did to him as Thalia gathered the baby. How could he? This
moment was unlike any he had experienced in his life! He smiled
as Avalanche attempted to tackle him, and scratched behind the
dog's ear. "You're getting big!" He said happily. When Thalia
told him to sit, he obeyed. It seemed she finally learned to
train him.
He took the baby from Thalia, and smiled at the bundle of joy.
The God of Love had truly had no idea what love was before that
moment; Before he had held his own child in his arms. He caught
the reference to his name in hers, which he didn't want to admit
made him smile, but it still did. This was a moment he would
never forget.
When they arrived at the shelter, Adonis stared in disbelief.
This was where she had been staying? And with the baby? For
what? To protect him? This was unacceptable. He shook his head,
and pressed his hip against Thalia's. And before she could
object, they were back at his house, in his room this time.
"You'll stay here." He said. It definitely wasn't a permanent
fix. But the next day he would try to come up with something
better. "You can have the room. I'll sleep on the couch..."

It was clear that he was not happy with her living conditions,
but there had not been any other option when money ran out.
Before she could explain herself, he brought them back to the
house. She put the diaper bag down and sighed, knowing how much
her being there was an inconvenience.
"No, we will take the couch," she said, moving to sit on the
couch. "It doesn't sit as high up and I can use the kitchen a
lot easier. Though, if you prefer the couch, I won't argue."
Pandora had been eating every three to four hours. Mainly, the
couple had been watching her while Thalia underwent treatment,
but they kept her updated. Of course, she called them nearly
every hour so they did not have much of a choice.
She had barely sat down before she had fallen asleep in an
upright position with her head bent back on the couch. She was
too exhausted. Avalanche sat beside him, sniffing at the bundle
in his arms.

Thalia's hard headedness gave way to a frustrated sigh from
Adonis. He didn't argue with her, holding Pandora in his arms as
she made her way to the couch, falling asleep in zero time flat.
She must have been truly exhausted. It seemed she hadn't been
doing well. But that she was willing to put herself through all
of this, just to protect him... In a way, it made him happy...
"You need a crib." He said to the bundle of joy in his arms as
he made his way back up the stairs. He was sure there was one at
the Blackwood Estate. A quick zip over, and he was back with a
crib for the baby. It wasn't decorated, but it would do. He
placed Pandora in the crib next to his bed, and went to sleep,
waking up several times throughout the night to feed her. The
formula was ok, but breastmilk was much better for both the
child and the mother. He didn't want to wake Thalia to feed her
though. He cursed himself for still caring about her wellbeing,
but how could he not? even if her actions were cruel, her
reasoning was sound. Things were so complicated...

Sunlight flooded the room, bringing the woman slowly into a
state of consciousness once again. Pain radiated up her neck and
shoulders as she removed her head from the couch. Her body felt
stiff. She did not remember moving an inch last night. The time
of day caught her by surprise. Why hadn't Pandora woken her up
for feeding?
Panic set in. She ran up to Adonis' bedroom and immediately
calmed when she saw the crib and her daughter sleeping
peacefully there. Not wanting to disturb either of them, she
went downstairs to make breakfast. Avalanche followed her,
happily wagging his tale, clearly hoping for some scraps.
She knew today she would have to search for a new place. After
starting the coffee, she decided against cooking and instead
went to the local town to get fresh cooked doughnuts and the
morning paper. Once back at the house, she poured a cup of
coffee and skimmed through the paper, hoping to find somewhere
cheap.

Eventually, an under rested Adonis would make his way into the
kitchen, yawning and rubbing his eyes as he made his way to the
coffee pot. "You'd think a baby Goddess would need to eat -less-
than a baby mortal..." He said as he poured the brown liquid
into a mug, downing it without a flake of sugar or creamer. His
eyes settled on Thalia, who was reading a newspaper, seemingly
in search of a place to stay. Adonis found himself missing
seeing her first thing in the morning, hair a mess and no makeup
on. It was a privilege that no other man received. He shook the
thought, and made his way over, checking for only a moment
before speaking up.
"A bit old fashioned, eh?" He asked. He didn't know anyone who
still checked newspapers for homes. Not with the internet
available. But then, that might give her something of an
advantage. His eyes turned toward the door, listening for any
sign that the baby had awakened. All was silent, so he leaned
against the counter and took from his cup once more.

With an apologetic smile, Thalia looked up at Adonis as he spoke
about their child's large stomach. It had not been her plan to
immediately fall asleep, especially since Adonis had never been
left alone with Pandora before. However, she was grateful for a
full night sleep. As he made his coffee, she gazed back down at
the faded print on the off-white, thin papers.
"I never caught on to the internet movement. I prefer good 'ole
paper," she said, before taking finishing her cup. "Found a
place not too far, but not too close. Good price. Hera froze all
my accounts, but I contacted the bar before you woke up and I
can have my old job back."
She did not wish to return to that job, but it was better than
getting beneath Adonis' skin by remaining at his house. Thalia
rubbed her eyes, still exhausted despite having slept peacefully
the night before.
"If you want to go with us, you can," she offered, glancing up
to him once again. He deserved to at least see where Pandora
would potentially live. "I will go get ready and get Pandora
dressed."
She locked herself in the restroom after that, to shower. When
she got out, she took a moment to look at herself in the mirror.
Her hair had began to grow back, but it was still unattractively
short. She wanted to wear a wig at least until it filled in a
little better. Luckily, her hair grew at an unnatural pace and
she would have her hair back soon enough.
She hid her shame with the hair piece and then, applied makeup
and dressed. There was not much she could do to hide her baggy
eyes, but at least she looked better than before.
When she had finished, she got Pandora ready and hunted down
Adonis to see if he was ready to go or if he opted to stay
there. When, or if he was ready, they left. The address of the
place brought them to a quiet neighborhood in a nearby town.
The place for rent was an apartment building with faded brick
along the sides. A woman greeted and proceeded to show them
around the available apartment.
The apartment was small, a single bedroom without a living room.
Thalia could make it work even if the only thing appealing about
the place was the colorful spray paint art on the bathroom walls
and the price.
The woman wanted six hundred down along with first month's rent
upon move in. Thalia merely nodded as the wheels turned in her
head. With no money, nearly a thousand dollars was hard to come
up with. Although, she could ask a few more favors from a couple
friends.
Thalia thanked the woman and moved onto the next place, hoping
for something better.

Thalia's preference for old fashioned things amused Adonis.
Sure, she was old enough to have that mentality, but because
Gods didn't age like normal people, she would always appear to
be an old spirited 25 year old. He laughed to himself as he
washed his cup and put it away.
"If I was the God of luck, I'd make a living playing Blackjack
once a week." He said honestly. Of course, it wasn't like he had
gotten into a career as a matchmaker, so he was really in no
position to talk. But still, modeling made decent money and he
didn't have to work every day. So he was content.
After everyone was ready, they headed out to search for a place.
The first place was far too small, and once they left, Adonis
voiced his concerns. Throughout the day, he turned down every
location that they visited for various reasons. Too small, too
expensive, a bad location. At the end of the day, they returned
home. "We can try again tommorrow." He said, as he carried
Pandora to give her a bath.
