There was no instruction manual for these things. Nothing that
could direct her on a path that would could keep them both from
getting hurt. It was impossible to prepare herself for the
backlash that followed. Although she had not expected the
response that followed, she would not have been prepared no
matter the outcome. More tears covered her face.
He even told her he could give her anything! It was true, he
spoiled her. The man would probably buy the moon if she asked
him to. Thalia enjoyed material things, but she would rather
have nothing and him, than have everything without him. He made
her happy, not anything else.
You're a liar.
She flinched. As his desperation and anger sharpened the tone of
his voice and increased its volume, she sobbed more and more.
The pain was substatial and raw. She felt torn between saving
his heart and his life. Thalia had to keep him safe! Staying
would be selfish and all too dangerous.
She thought about being even more cruel. The words were on her
tongue, weighing the power to break him behind her teeth. Yet,
not even she was willing to go that far.
"No," she whispered defiantly. "I owe you nothing outside of
what I've given you."
She believed those words with every fiber of her being. Even if
he had no idea with sacrifice she was making, she did. He had to
live!
"Adonis," she pleaded, willing him to see everything he could
not. Her hands removed themselves from the luggage and grabbed
his arms. Agony twisted her features as another sob shook her
being. "Please..."
Please what? Don't be angry? Take this situation away and make
it right? Kiss her? She did not really know what she was asking
for, only that she was dying inside and the one man who had
saved her in the past could not be her savior now.
"I can't be with you, I'm sorry " she said through the storm of
tears. Her voice was deadly quiet in comparison to what his had
been.
Thalia's hands did not leave his arms. It could quite possibly
be the last time she would touch him. She hung her head as her
knees threatened to buckle. Barely audible whimpers emitted from
the woman as she cried harder still. Her reserve be dammed, she
could not refuse this heartbreak. Neither could she refuse him
the life he deserved to live, even if that meant she had to cut
herself out of it.

Adonis' accusations brought about more tears, but no answers.
How dare she stand before the God of Love, and tell him that she
was no longer in love with him, when he could see with his very
eyes that it wasn't true! But nonetheless, she intended to
leave, regardless of what he said.
"I owe you nothing outside of what I've given you."
His anger flared once more when he heard her. But the tone of
his voice didn't raise, rather, it lowered further still. "And
what was that? False hopes and empty promises?" He walked over
to the ring that she had left on the counter, and inserted it
forcefully in her hand. "This is yours." He said, his stare as
frigid as his tone. "Do what you want with it. Pawn it, give it
away. I don't care. But I don't want to look at it..."
It was then that the woman pleaded to him. Pleaded for what? He
couldn't say. But there was far more honesty in her eyes than
there was in her words. They begged him to take all of this
away. Whatever it was that was pulling her away from him. But he
could do nothing about it, if she wouldn't tell him what that
was.
"I can't be with you, I'm sorry "
Adonis scoffed. "That's the most honest thing you've said to me
today. Maybe ever..." But she didn't let go of his arms, rather
remained, and cried her eyes out. But Adonis would not entertain
the tears of a woman who was not willing to help herself. "You
can go now..." He said, turning away and not looking back. "I
hope the next guy has better luck than me..."

Anger bubbled over the hurt as he accused her of sowing lies n
the relationship. The only time she had lied was now, but it was
to protect him no matter the wrongness of it. She did not speak
aloud until the anger receeded. There was no purpose in being
mad at him when it was not his fault. But was it really hers?
She received the ring and held it into a fist at her side when
he released her hand. It was hard enough to give it up the first
time, there was no way she could fight with him on the matter.
Maybe ever?
She flinched. If his life did not depend on it, she would have
taken all the words back. Tears continued their course down her
cheeks as turned his back on her. She took a step forward,
reaching out to grab his arm. Thalia did not know what she was
planning on saying, but she knew she could not leave him like
this. Maybe not leave at all. To hell with the consequences. She
needed him. Then, his next words strengthened her resolve,
waking up the dormant part that had initially pushed her to
leaving.
"How dare you," she muttered to his back. "The next guy?"
She looked away and shook her head. It was clear they were not
going to leave on good terms. He did not know, but she refused
to feel guilty. She needed him alive.
"I love you," she murmured bitterly as she grabbed her things.
Avalanche followed her to the door and she waited to see if
Adonis would stop him. When he didn't, she left.

Thalia's anger didn't stir a reaction in Adonis. It paled in
comparison to his own. This was her doing, and he wouldn't
indulge her in how she felt about his reaction He let her go,
and he let Avalanche go with her. She was the one who wanted
him, after all.
Her last words, were the most painful ones she had ever spoken
to him. Why? Why was all this happening? Why was she doing this,
especially if she did, in fact, love him?
These were questions that Adonis would not get answers to. Once
she went out the door, he wouldn't hear from her again. He
wouldn't sense her presence, he her smile, make her angry or
have absurd competitions with her.
It was months down the line before Adonis was even
semi-functional. Before he was willing to leave the house and be
around other people. But even then, he took no interest in being
social. It just wasn't the same. He was best off just staying in
the house. He simple wasn't whole...

After leaving Adonis, she traveled. There was not a night she
spent in the same place twice. The places were a blur as well as
people and time. Hell, her life had become a big blur. Avalanche
kept her company, but she could hardly function most days.
Despite being unsure of her decision, she felt stuck in it. Even
if she returned, there was no guarantee that he would accept
her. She had hurt him in the process of trying to save him.
In the midst of it all, she found herself constantly ill,
especially at night. Although, she had not been eating all that
much so she assumed that's what it was. Around six months, she
was in South America sleeping at a run down inn when she felt
small, jerky movements. It only solidified her suspensions
behind her sudden weight gain. A trip to the doctor later, she
had discovered the truth: she was expecting. Shock did not begin
to describe what she felt. She felt alone, scared, and guilty.
Adonis deserved to at least know about the child, but that was
if the baby survived.
Doctors forewarned her that her body was fighting an aggressive
cancer that would spread quickly if not treated immediately. She
refused of course. The risk was too great and she would not
sacrifice a piece of Adonis for herself. However, she made sure
they had his contact information in case of anything.
After their daughter was born, she sought treatment and
surprised the doctors by becoming cancer free within a month.
Once she had recovered enough strength, she found herself
staring at an all too familiar door. Alone on his step, she
steeled herself and knocked three consecutive times and then
waited.

Game Night!
A few friends had invited Adonis to their Superbowl parties, and
he had truly entertained going to one. But when the night
arrived, Adonis had no interest in going out. It wasn't unusual
for him. It wasn't that he didn't like people, or anything like
that. He was simply most comfortable at home! He ordered himself
a pizza, and prepared to watch the game at home! He had been
following the Panther's performance all year and was really
excited to see them bring home the win!
Everything was set! TV, popcorn, beer. All that was left was the
pizza, which should be arriving any-
Ding Dong!
Adonis got up to go retrieve his pizza but just when he was
about to touch the door, he felt it. The sinking in his heart.
The rush of adrenaline. What was she doing there?! Surely she
hadn't come for something she had forgotten damn near a year
later! Adonis was just becoming functional again! Why now? He
took a deep breath and prepared himself mentally, before opening
the door, and looking silently at the person behind it for
several moments. It wasn't necessarily that he wasn't willing to
speak to her; Rather nothing he could say seemed to be the right
thing! 'Hello?' 'Can I help you?' 'Yes?' none of it seemed to
work. So he simply looked with a blank expression, suddenly in
no mood for pizza...

His expression said it all. It knocked her heart out of rhythm
and created two pink patches of frustration on her cheeks. She
ignored it all to simply bask in his presence again. It had been
so long since she had seen him; too long. No amount of luck
could have saved her. In the background, she could hear a game
going on and smell freshly cooked popcorn. Thalia looked passed
his shoulder, clearly looking to see if someone else was there.
When she caught herself spying, she pulled her gaze back to him,
fully aware of the fact that she had forfeited any right to look
when she walked away.
As if the gods heard her silent pleas, a pizza man arrived. She
didn't look away from Adonis until the man came up and demanded
money. Not having any, she waited for Adonis to take the pizza
and pay. When the mortal had left, she cleared her throat. What
did one say after breaking their lover's heart?
Hi, yes, it's me, remember? Well, I'm back now, still completely
in love with you. Take me back? No? Well that's fine, but I had
your baby.
It sounded like a bad soap opera script. She visibly was
struggling with words. She had not meant to ruin him before and
now she knew that they had no future outside of the child they
shared. Thalia was also technically still laying low since Hera
was still out for her blood. Hence why Pandora was safely at a
friend's house instead of out in the open.
"Adonis," she started. She closed her eyes and took a breath
before reopening them again. "The day I left you, Zeus had sent
me a letter warning me that Hera had found out the truth. I
wanted to keep you safe. I realize it was wrong, but I was
scared. I'm sorry."
She did not expect him to receive her apology after all this
time, so she hurried on before he could slam the door in her
face. This wasn't about her, afterall, it was about Pandora. She
pushed the hair out of her eyes, cursing the wig that masked the
remnants of cancer. It matched her old hairstyle very well, but
it was a pain and greatly uncomfortable, making it difficult to
concentrate.
"This really isn't about me. I need to speak to you. May we talk
inside?"

Adonis didn't overlook Thalia looking past him; No doubt
searching for any companion he may have had with him. His eyes
narrowed as the woman caught herself, and retreated before he
could call her out on it. Even still, he didn't speak.
The pizza man broke the silence temporarily. Adonis addressed
him with a smile, and a warm greeting. After gathering the pizza
and giving the man a handsome tip, he put the pizza in the house
and returned to his silence glance upon the woman who had left
him. Eventually, she spoke up, explaining her actions on that
day. Adonis knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that her words
were true. They explained her behavior on that day; Her tears
despite attempting to be cruel and hurtful. But even so, he
remained unmoved. She had taken away his ability to keep his own
promises, though her selfish act of preserving him over them. It
wasn't something he would take lightly.
But it seemed that wasn't all she had to say. When she asked if
they could speak inside, Adonis wanted to tell her no. That he
had company. But she already knew that to be untrue. with a
short sigh, he stepped to the side, allowing her inside the
house. Not much had changed about the house, except the absence
of pictures of the two of them, or any evidence that she had
ever lived there. Adonis grabbed a slice of pizza and made his
way to the tv, where he saw that the Broncos had already scored!
If Thalia had brought him any bad luck, he couldn't be sure he
wouldn't strangle her... "What is it?" He asked, as he took a
bite of his pizza.

Thalia looked around his home, relishing in the familiarity of
it all. She had missed it. His nonchalant behavior made her
uncertain of coming here. Perhaps they were all better without
each other, but then, she would not take the decision from him
this time. Feeling unwelcome, she grew fidgety in her stance by
the door, stuck between wanting to cry and wanting to leave.
Ignoring her emotions, she placed her hand on the opposite arm
and rubbed it.
He had not accepted her apology which she had figured he
wouldn't. It pained her to know that she could walk out right
now and he probably wouldn't care; in fact, he probably wished
she would.
She eyed the pizza he was eating and felt the urge to vomit.
Food still did not settle well with her after everything.
Waiting for him to swallow the piece, she then revealed why she
had come, hastily.
"I-we have a baby," she said. Now, she was on the verge of
tears. There was nothing to say he would accept the child,
though she doubted that he wouldn't. "Girl. A month old."

Adonis had done a good job of keeping up his tough face so far.
He hadn't spoken any more than necessary, and not a hint of
emotion had shown in his expression. But all that fell apart
with just four simple words...
Adonis' eyes grew wide in disbelief "What?!" His heart pounded
through his chest, and his jaw dropped to the ground. Where is
she? Why are you just coming to tell me!?" He was angry with her
all over again for keeping her pregnancy a secret, but that
anger was trumped by the excitement of having a daughter. He
looked around the room as if expecting to see a baby girl
sitting somewhere that he had previously overlooked, but to no
avail. So his eyes settled on Thalia, awaiting the rest of the
information.
