Thalia admired the way his eyes never wavered from her own now
pale blues ones. It was a nice change from the men who would
openly assess her curves and remain unabashed. Also, it
displayed the sort of respect she desired. She detested the
claim that chivalry no longer existed, but it was hard to come
by nonetheless. Back when she had been young, it had been common
courtesy to do certain tasks for a lady, like holding the door
open, but it was just as difficult to run across a true lady
now.
"Touche." A laugh slipped from her lips as she shook her head at
the thought of it. "Remind me not to get on your bad side."
She followed his gaze to his cup and hoped he was not debating
testing his powers to do just what they had talked about. Not
that a cup would not have been a step up from her late husband,
but she would have looked a fool drooling over the glass.
Shrugging, she glanced down at her lap as she considered his
words. "I think more often than not, immortals simply keep their
shapes by becoming accustomed to food. After a while, even the
most dainty treats can begin to lose their appeal."
The woman silently considered her words with a tightly knitted
brow before dismissing them with a another sip of her beer. Her
lips upturned into a grin as he complimented her. Looking at
him, she shrugged modestly, but did not speak on that particular
matter.
"Fates go by laws, whereas I play off of chance," she responded.
"Unlike them, I have more wiggle room, but it all comes back to
what they plan. I can make it so someone becomes rich in some
instances, but if their fate is to be poor, nothing I can do
will change that. I simply can give them a moment sometimes to
be happy."
She could also make their lives terrible, but she had only done
that on one occasion. Usually, she simply enjoyed being a
trickster while remaining unnoticed.

Adonis laughed heartily when Thalia asked him to remind her not
to get on his bad side. Shaking his head in humor, he took
another swig of his beer. "Hmm. I wonder if you could..." Adonis
wasn't quick to anger. He found it too easy to make a game out
of most anything.
He listened with interest as she explained to him the difference
between luck and fate; the drags from his cup turning to sips as
he took in the information. While they seemed very similar, they
were actually quite different. It seemed in the end, Fate would
trump luck, without outside interference, at least... It sounded
like something he might just have fun playing with in the
future. He had already thought of a loophole he wanted to
experiment with.
"Alright then, I guess it's my turn to pick the game." He said,
as he finished his drink and put the cup down once more. He
winked at the Goddess, and in an instant they would find
themselves at a high end Casino. Adonis was clad in a fresh
black tux and Thalia in a form fitting red dress that almost
appeared to be tailored for the occasion! "Blackjack or
Roulette?" he asked no one in particular. Deciding to test the
limits of chance uninhibited, he got some chips for the two and
headed for the Roulette table.

With a raised brow and devilish grin, the woman said, "I'm quite
certain I could."
The mischeivous nature of the smile sobered, making it sincere
as she shook her head at the thought. Although she enjoyed
messing with others, she was always left alone. It would not be
pleasurable to make him her enemy, but sometimes, it could not
be helped...
Her gaze flickered back to the man's face, perplexed by his next
statement. What game? Before the thought could cross her tongue,
they both appeared deliciously dressed in a casino. She had to
give it to him, he was turning out to be fun to be around.
"Always black jack, but I think Roulette is better for tonight,"
she replied, smoothing out her dress. "Should have known red was
your color."
The dress was really pretty, though she preferred to wear black.
Her favorite colors were hard to come by in dresses, or at least
any that she liked.
She seated herself at the Roulette table and took her portion of
the chips from him. It was a busy night and half of the casino
goers were buzzed; some, more than just alcohol. She smiled
Adonis and poked his ribcage lightly.
"You should dress like that all the time," Thalia said,
winking."
Then, the croupier called for bets. She placed all of her chips
on the red 32 and waited for Adonis to place his bets. After
everyone had, the ball was launched. A silence overwhelmed the
table as the ball went around and around. Thalia took notice of
an uneven fingernail and frowned. As she assessed the nail, the
ball landed.
"Red, 32," the man called.
She almost seemed bored with winning. After four rounds she had
quadrupled her beginning total. Everyone had seemed to catch on
to the stroke of luck she seemed to be having, and they all
started to placed their bets along with her, following her lead.
She played the part well however. Each time she won, she would
shake her head and swear she never won anything and that this
was all so surprising.
Before the fifth round, she leaned over and ran her hand down
Adonis' knee beneath the table as she kissed his neck up to his
ear, giving everyone the impression that she was merely feeling
frisky.
"Place the remainder of your chips on black 19," she murmured
before removing herself.
She, on the other hand, placed her bets on red. Everyone
followed her, grinning in anticipation. Little did they know,
her stroke of luck had come to a close.

Adonis nodded when Thalia agreed that Blackjack would be a
better game for her demonstration. Blackjack required at least
some degree of skill, and then there were those who
professionally counted cards. There were too many variables. He
grinned upon registering her next statement though. "Hey! Who
doesn't love a beautiful woman in a red dress?" His favorite
color was actually white. It contrasted his name too perfectly
for it to be anything else! But what could he say? She looked
good in red!
His abs responded instinctively when she poked him; Tightening
and offering resistance. He winked as he walked past her seat.
"You should see me without it." He said. He didn't look back to
see her reaction, instead taking his seat at the table, and
preparing to play.
When she made her first bet on Red 34, Adonis knew she would
win. Even so, he didn't bet with her. He placed his chips on
Black 12, and watched the game play out. Over the next few
rounds, while everyone else was riding on Thalia's coat tails,
and she was putting on a pretty good innocent act, Adonis only
went along with her bet once, just to make up the chips he had
lost.
When Thalia came over and kissed on his neck, a chill went down
his spine, though he showed no outward signs. They wouldn't hear
it over the noise, but across the Casino, a fresh 18 year old
boy had just unknowingly caught the affection of a 42 year old
woman who was still firm in all the right places. Adonis leaned
over and nudged the man on the other side of him when Thalia
returned to her seat. "And they think SHE'S the lucky one!" He
said, loud enough that she could surely hear him.
He clapped his hands and turned back to the table. "Alright!
This round I turn it all around! He said, as everyone continued
to follow Thalia around the board. He defiantly refused to match
her bet yet again, placing everything he had on Black 19 as
instructed. The ball fell onto the wheel and it seemed to rotate
in slow motion, inching around and around until it finally came
to a halt. "Black 19!" The man called. "WHOO!" Adonis called
out, playing the role of a drunken man winning it big! He turned
to Thalia and planted a heavy, celebratory kiss on her lips. She
would pay for her act earlier. "Come on baby. Let me take you
somewhere nice!" He said, gathering his winnings and taking them
to cash in.
His winnings amounted to about nine thousand dollars; More than
enough for a fancy dinner and a hotel room. But Adonis took
Thalia to neither. They landed at a small homeless shelter atop
a snowy hill dressed in ski gear. "It's the little things." He
said with a laugh, before dropping the money off at the shelter.
Sure they could have done to a fancy resturaunt and found a
million ways to blow it, but they really didn't need it. He
grabbed a couple wooden boards from around back, and dropped
them at his feet. "Race you to the bottom?" It seemed the good
times were just getting rolling.

His flirtation merely escalated the more the night dragged on,
making her wonder what exactly he hoped for. She was not opposed
to the idea of one night stands, just as long as she was not
apart of them. Thalia enjoyed his humor though and took it in
stride. Although he did not look at her for a reaction, she gave
him one as he walked to his seat in the form of a gentle tap on
the rump.
She fought a grin as Adonis talked loudly to the man beside him.
They had no idea just how 'lucky' she could be.
As planned, he won it all.
Out of all the places he could have chosen, he picked a homeless
shelter! Of course he was an immortal and hardly in need of the
money, but still...
She could not help but stare as he left the money there.
Frowning, she wondered if it was a front. No being she had met
had been anything like him. The thought did not arouse any good
emotions, so she checked herself and looked away long enough to
compose herself.
Fortunately, he gave her a distraction.
"You're on," she said, smiling. "Okay, on the count of three."
Thalia grabbed a board and situated it beneath one foot. As she
readied herself, she could not help but laugh at what they were
about to do. She had never been skiing in her life, though she
had thought about it.
"One, two, three, go!" she yelled, but she had started going at
'two'.
She was actually fairly good at skiing! The hill was bare with
no trees or humps, so it was not too difficult. Of course 'luck'
was in her favor and she was even beating Adonis. She was just
about to make it to the bottom of the hill when her balance
swayed too far to the right and she landed face first into the
snow.
She wished she could say it was one of those graceful, cute,
falls. It actually was quite painful and none too attractive.
However, by the time she rolled onto her back, she was laughing
so hard her cheeks hurt.
The snow went into every possible crevass it could wiggle
through. Despite the cold, she had not had that much fun in a
long time. She threw up her hands.
"I call foul," she said, barely getting the words out through
the laughter.

The group didn't seem particularly pleased with Adonis' win. But
the men couldn't help but be impressed with him and the woman he
chose to share his winnings with. They were already completely
removed from his mind though. His eyes lingered on the Goddess'
lips as her thumb absently carressed them as if in silent
contemplation. Her lips were something he could see himself
getting accustomed to! But then, her playful side seemed to
rival his own. This could very well turn into a game he couldn't
win!
"Hey!" The God called after the Goddess as she stole a head
start. He took off after her, catching up to her in a short
amount of time, but she quickly pulled ahead again. It seemed
Thalia was going to win their race! Maybe she had been "lucky"
enough to find the spot where the hill was steeper, and thus,
able to pick up more speed. But then, just before reaching the
bottom, she fell face first into the snow! For humans, that sort
of thing could be scary, but Adonis couldn't help but laugh as
he passed her, and jumped off his board to go help her up. "You
could have just told me you were falling for me!" He said with a
laugh. "I didn't need a demonstration!"
A misstep, however, found Adonis in the snow next to the
Goddess, his head laying next to her feet and vice versa. He
laughed along with the woman and shook his head. "I feel like
you did that out of spite!" he erupted with laughter. Thalia
being the Goddess of Luck and Fortune meant he could blame her
whenever something bad happened!
When the laughter died down, he sighed, his breath appearing
like mist floating upward before dissipating in every direction.
"So what I did up there probably seemed pretty cliche, huh?"His
hear rolled back so he could look up the hill at the shelter.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to fool you into thinking
I'm some sort of good Samaritan or anything like that..." He sat
up and looked up the hill at the building. Every Blackwood has
two powers they command. But the catch is, we're only capable of
controlling one of them at will. "
He stood up to his feet, and helped Thalia up, pulling one of
the boards over for them to sit on. "There's a woman who's
living in that shelter because of me." he said. "I wanted to be
different from my family. I wanted to control my powers fully,
and no one was going to tell me I couldn't. There was an old
married couple who was going through a divorce. The husband had
fallen out of love, and the wife was desperate to win her
husband back. I decided I was going to fix them. So I used my
power to try to make the husband fall in love with her again. I
succeeded."
As he exhaled, the mist from his lungs took the shape of a
heart. He then shot a quick arrow through it, and watched it all
fade away. "But the feelings I created in the man were too
intense. Realizing what he had just done to the woman he loved,
he took his own life. None of his riches were left to her. Not a
dime went to her, since their divorce was finalized. She's been
living there ever since. That money won't turn her life around.
But hopefully it will at least make her more comfortable..."

She was about to utter a remark about how he probably tripped
her somehow when he fell too. The eruption of laughter increased
and she was barely able to see through the tears. Only a few
seconds later did the laughter die and she helped him sit up.
"I'm the goddess of fortune, not the goddess of clumsiness," she
teased, removing a strand of hair from her eyes.
They sat in silence once the laughter had stopped, for a few
moments. She took the opportunity to look over the beauty around
them. The snow had always made her happy, but it also amazed her
how brutal winter could be yet so beautiful. When he spoke, she
looked back to him, but then followed his gaze to the shelter.
She frowned, thoughtfully at what he was telling her. Never
would she label something selfless 'cliche'. But, then the more
he revealed to her, the more she began to understand why he did
it, as well as him as a man. She understood how having powers
was difficult at times, and why some gods even grew proud and
bloodthirsty because of them. Adonis had merely tried to help a
starving marriage, but ended up causing tragedy. Even so, he
still owned up to his failure and even tried to make amends the
only way he knew how without interfering with the balance of
things again. The fine line was hard to fine at times, and
sometimes, it only became clear after it was crossed.
At any other time, she found the heart and arrow amusing, but
she felt no joy in seeing it now. Instead, she hurt for him and
what had happened.
She did not speak at first, only thought over what he had told
her. Then, she looked up at him and reached to pat his knee.
Thalia could help him win a million dollars if that was what he
wanted, but she was horrible at consoling people. Facing someone
else's problems or past, only made her think of the one she
desperately wanted to escape.
But this time was different. He was not a mortal stranger, but
at the least, he was a friendly acquaintance.
"Thank you for your honesty," she said, with a gentle smile.
"What happened was tragic, but you're not the tragedy. All you
can do is continue forward and let it teach you how to better
help someone else."
She tried her best to ignore the hypocrisy of her statement when
she had yet to let go of her own past and move forward. They
were completely different situations, though.
She sighed, dismissing those thoughts.
"Owning up to a mistake is better than pretending you never made
it," she said, removing her hand from his knee. She had not to
leave it there for so long, but she had gotten sidetracked.
With the same hand, she grabbed his own and they reappeared by
an ice cream shop somewhere tropical. The scent of salty water
rolled off the nearby ocean as the evening sun decorated the sky
with an array of brilliant colors.
She wore a blue sundress with a neck strap and he was in a white
button-up shirt and shorts.
"Ice cream?" she asked, heading to the window to order as
another devious grin planted itself on her lips.

Thalia's advice was wise and sound. But in Adonis' situation, he
couldn't help but feel it was best if he avoided helping anyone
at all. The powers he had full control of only brought pain to
people. And the powers that could make people truly happy, were
a wild card. The results were too unpredictable. Adonis found
that he was best playing the role of a spectator. Of course, He
occasionally made someone fall in love by accident. But at least
it was never the result of his intentional actions.
Adonis felt almost like a child when she took his hand, and took
him to cheer him up with ice cream. But he couldn't help but
laugh at the thought as well. After surveying the flavors, he
decided on the one he wanted. "A scoop of Birthday cake on a
sugar cone, and whatever the lady would like. He said. Once he
paid for the ice cream, he led her to a table. "You know my
favorite thing about being a God?" he asked.
"When we randomly pop up in busy places, people don't even
realize it! It's like we were there the whole time!" Adonis
never really understood that ability, but he had always been
amused by it. Once their Ice cream was finished, he took Thalia
outside to where the boardwalk stood just behind the beach.
"Let's go surfing!" He said excitedly. This was the most fun
he'd had in a single day in a long time. He only hoped he could
continue to have days like this...

She thanked him for paying for the ice cream with a swift kiss
on the cheek before enjoying her ice cream that was the same
flavor as his. It was not her favorite, but it was certainly a
nice change!
"People tend to miss things they aren't looking for," she
murmured, thoughtfully more so to herself than to him.
After the ice cream, she followed him and excitedly agreed to
suffering. She was not good with snow, but water was a
completely different subject.
"How lucky," she said, grinning as she pulled off the dress to
reveal a strapless bikini. "I thought to wear a bikini."
Thalia winked at him. They went into a surf shop and rented two
boards before making their way out into the water. When they
made it out far enough, she laid down on her stomach and paddled
out further into the ocean.
Once she had made it out far enough, she sat up, straddling the
surfboard as she looked over to see how he was fairing.
"Do you have any prior experience?" she asked, smiling. "With
surfing, I mean."

It was clear that bikinis were invented for Thalia, the instant
she slipped out of her dress. "Lucky for you or me?" Adonis
asked with a coy smile. He wasn't shy about taking in the view,
though he didn't take in the sight for too long, as he wasn't
fortunate enough to have swimwear beneath his clothes. He
trekked over to a swimwear hut two doors down and purchased some
white and blue trunks while Thalia acquired the boards.
He arrived just in time to take his own board, and paddle out
behind Thalia, sending a whistle in her direction as he enjoyed
the view from behind her, catching up quickly. He had a certain
way of letting a woman know he was attracted to her, without
being overbearing. It was his gift. Perhaps a side effect of
being a God of Love.
When Thalia asked if Adonis had any prior experience, the answer
was an astounding no. "Not a bit!" He said with a laugh. Even
so, he jumped up to his feet. His balance was excellent, but his
form was sloppy, causing him to rock back and forward on the
board, only his Godly reflexes keeping him from being thrown
from it. By some miracle, he rode the wave all the way to shore,
before slipping off and landing on his ass in the sand, laughing
uproarously! "How was that?!" He yelled to Thalia, knowing damn
well that it was horrible.
