Welcome to the office. Make alliances. Backstab. Have secret
office romances. (In rp its against the rules to have
relationships between staff. We hope you break this rule xD.)
       Furthermore have fun!

The glossy laminated report stared up at her from her desk. She
couldn't present this. The shapeshifter chronicles sales were in
the hole. After they ran the add against them calling them cheap
remakes of the Twilight saga. They would have to pull out before
the signing of next book deal. That or she would have to
completely rework the whole ad for it.
"God dammit! " She screamed and threw the report across her
cubicle. Several papers flew everywhere. She heard gasps and
some people whisper. When she was angry about something everyone
knew it. She grumbled to herself and gathered the report up.
"All that fucking work! Why can't people be happy. Oh that's
been done before! Seen it! There isn't even a werewolf in the
story! Ugh! " She stood and headed to the break room. She
needed a coffee to help her focus so she could present the
report to Rai. Maybe he would help her. As she walked by people
stared at her. "What you have never been in a bad mood?" She
grumble and walked into the break room heading straight for the
coffee machine. If Rai didn't have a better idea she would be
here all night revamping the ad. Try to save sales.

Chris didn't know when it happened, but his life had been over
run by the sounds of printers and fax machines. Not that it was
a bad thing, mind you. He loved his job! He had a secretary,
his own office on the third floor, overlooking the heart of
Atlanta, and had built up quite a reputation for himself along
readers. It was more than he ever could have asked!
In the seven years done it had been founded, MOW had grown into
one of the top five publishing companies in the country! Well,
actually number 4 but who was counting? EVERYONE that's who!
Every employee from the CEO down to the custodians knew that the
goal was to make it to number 1 in foe years time, and the way
things were going it was very possible! They already had branch
offices and printing centers in LA and Chicago, and they would
be opening one in New York soon!
He was looking out his window, listening to the bustle below
and thinking of the days when he and Athena were sitting around
eating pizza and drawing up business plans. They never would
have pictured all this... he had no more immediate business to
handle that day. Maybe he would dip out early....

Her hands curled around the cup. The espresso tasted awful. But
she loved it, and nothing seemed to help her feel better than a
boost of caffeine like that. She downed it and tossed the cup in
the trash. Well time to ruin Rai's day. She popped a stick of
gum in her mouth to help her focus. The chewing would calm her.
One quick run through the file to see if it was in order. She
giggled as she bumped into that cute assistant guy they hired
on. "I guess I should have watched where I was going." It was
insane how fast her mood flipped. The assistant hurried past her
on his way to the rest rooms. It was a little disheartening to
see things like this. Most people turning a blind eye to her
because she was bigger. And a little emotional.
She caught the elevator up to the third floor and leaned back
closing her eyes. She hated delivering bad news. Especially news
about sales like this. Rai had been good to her though.
Understanding. He never made her feel inadequite or something of
the like. Even on her worst days he accepted her work and gave
her encouragement. She left the elevator and hurried over to
Rai's office taking a bit of time getting there. Just because he
would be kind about it, didn't mean she had to be excited about
going there. Delivering the news she had to give.
Hurriedly she stepped into his office. "Good morning sir! How
are you?" Instead of small chit chat though she jumped straight
into it, sitting down in the chair across from his desk. "I have
some bad news. Sales for the Shapeshifter Chronicles are in the
hole. One of our competitors rand a smash ad against us calling
the story Twilight Saga wanna be. Either I need to come up with
a new campaign like soon. I'll be here all night making up a new
one. Or we pull out before we sign with the next book. Unless
       you have an idea."

Chris sighed before Razie was all the way through the door. She
was one of the newer members to the staff; hired from outside
instead of rising through the ranks. Even so, she had been a
part of the team for almost a year and she still couldn't break
that habit of hers..."For the last time, Dig, stop calling me
"sir..." he gestured toward a chair, though she was already well
on her way. He listened her her problem, his elbows on his
desk as he considered possible solutions. Once he made up his
mind he say back in his seat and spoke up.
There's no such thing as bad publicity. " he said calmly.
Twilight is still a record holding series. If our competitors
want to liken it to Twilight, let's ride that idea! Let the
consumer know not only how The Shapeshifters are similar to
Twilight, but why it's BETTER!" That wouldn't take too much
work. A few edits to the back cover, a clever
       compare-and-contrast ad and boom!
He turned to his computer and made a few clicks before typing in
some notes. "I'll contact the Author and inform her that final
revisions will be sent to her in a week. You put that beautiful
brain of yours to work and bring me something i can show off" he
gave her a wink and waved her off to work. He had an ugly call
       to make...

Rai yelled at her for calling him sir. She just couldn't help it
though. It was hardwired into her brain. Respect. It was never
as easy as stop calling me that. She simply nodded in response
though. "Yes Rai." Digger knew it wasn't ever that easy.
After telling him what was going on Rai as usual had the perfect
response. He always knew exactly what to say to her. "Thanks
Rai. You always make my day. She gave him a little wave as she
       hurried for the door.
Once back to cubicle she sat at her desk and scooted close to
her computer. Her screen came to life and she was at work
immediately. By the time an hour passed she had a new cover for
both front and back. She typed up the new in the half hour
marketing ads and emailed all of them to Rai while being on the
phone with a local station to run the first ads for the new
       cover.
By the time she hung up and leaned back in her chair she could
not hide the accomplished look on her face. When she knew what
she wanted to see in her mind nothing got in her way. Hurriedly
she got up and hit the elevator. A she needed another short
break before getting started on what she had planned to do
       tomorrow.

Authors hated hearing deadlines were being pushed back. They
could be really aggressive. For that reason, Chris only had
his staff contact Authors with bad news when they were
responsible for the mishap. Of course, this was rare. Quality
and efficiency were the selling points st MoW. At any rate,
Chris was good at diffusing these situations. As promised, he
got right on calling the author. She was a well mannered lady
in her mid to late 30s. Even so, she wasn't pleased to hear
what the Publishing Manager had to tell her. After spending
half an hour convivial her that pushing their meeting back was
unavoidable, due to the smear campaign, and that they wouldn't
necessarily have to push back the release date, she accepted
what he had to tell her. He transferred her to his secretary to
schedule a new new appointment, and took a deep breath.
He was just getting ready to get up and go to the break room
when his office phone went off. The beeping red light went
indicated that the call was coming from his secretary. He
pressed the speakerphone button and answered. "Yes ma'am?" He
always joked that she was actually the boys, as she dictated
where he had to be and when.
""You're a 10:30 is here, sir. " again with the sir thing...
"I have a 10:30?" He asked no one in particular. He didn't
recall being informed of this, but he straightened out anyway.
"Send them in." He watched the door to see a tall lanky man of
about 45 enter. He was in good shape for his age. He had short,
salt and pepper hair and wore glasses Chris suspected were more
for show than sight. He recognized him immediately as Lester
Charles, attorney to LP Smiles, author of the Monarch series.
No doubt bringing the revisions to their publishing agreement.
Monarch was to be a five book installment, though only two
manuscripts were complete. Chris has read them both and thought
they were amazing! With good marketing, he believed they could
be the next Harry Potter series! But negotiations over the
terms had been rigid. After the most recent revisions, terms
were as follows; starting at the beginning of the year, MoW
would begin releasing the books, staggering each installment by
14 months. In order to ensure this was possible, Smiles had to
ensure each completed manuscript landed in their office AT LEAST
six months before the anticipated release date. This provided
time for the editors to thoroughly examine it for errors and the
Marketing Team time to develop the ad campaign.. if Smiles
failed to provide the manuscripts in time, MoW reserved the
right to terminate their agreement. Smiles would receive 25% of
revenue from all book sales. This was a generous amount. Most
publishers offered only 20-23% even so, Charles was pushing for
       30%.
After a short meeting, Charles let, assured that MoW would be
in contact, pending review of the revised agreement. Chris
called his secretary immediately. "Please send Sho up to my
office." Be said before hanging up. He had to say, having an
on-site attorney was one of the best ideas ever! Saved the
trouble of contacting an outside attorney and waiting to fit
into their schedule! He looked out the window as he waited,
       secretly wishing for a vacation...

It amused Sho; the misconceptions people had about lawyers.
Smart, they were, usually perceived as lacking in the
fashionable department, however, not to mention, not too easy on
the eye. For the tall, blonde, life seemed too good to be true.
She had it all, or so it seemed she had it all. Her long legs,
her poised demeanour, everything about her screamed class and
elegance. Today, she had gone for a white dress, the fabric
hugging her voluptuous figure, parted down the middle, in a
provocative manner. She wasn’t short, but she did love her heels
and to match the delicate look she was going for, they were a
nude pair she loved; Jimmy Choos.
The drive back to the office didn’t take longer than 10 minutes,
her cup of coffee in hand now when her mobile went off. Her
       secretary, Jenny.
“Just saw Charles come in for a meeting with Chris. He needs to
       see you.”
       “Roger that.”
It was their inside joke and as Jenny giggles down the phone,
she looks up to find Charles exiting the building, flashing him
a pearly white smile. He hadn’t stopped ogling her ever since
they had met last, to discuss the terms and conditions for the
new books MoW were taking on.
“Charlessss, what a pleasure,” she manages to push past her
lips, trying her hardest not to sound too displeased at the
sight of him, before continuing into the building. She didn’t
need the chit chat he seemed so ready to give, pacing her way up
the stairs and towards Chris’ room. The building was
spectacular; modern and chic. Between her love for law and
reading, Sho had contemplated the professions she could go into,
and found only one that satisfied both interests.
A lawyer at a publishing company, it was perfect and she loved
it here so far. The demanding workload satisfied her to no ends.
She didn’t knock on the door, only winked at Pam before letting
herself in, to be met with Chris lost in a world of his own. She
coughed, before taking a seat, raising her brows.
       “It’s Charles, isn’t it?”
The woman brushes her fingers through her wavy hair, before
taking a sip of her -now cold- drink, waiting.

When Sho cleared her throat, Chris turned to face her, giving
her a quick glance over as she made her way to a seat. The
office was full of attractive women. Between Digger, Sho and a
few others, Chris practically had a small harem at his
disposal! But Sho was different. Needless to say, as an
attorney, she was one of the best paid employees in the
building, and it reflected in her wardrobe. She could always
be found wearing some sort of designer clothes, but sometimes
she took it too far. She hadlegs fordays inthat dress! And the
dramatic dip in her dress took the word "cleavage" to a whole
new level! She looked like she belonged on a red carpet, not in
an office building! Chris sighed as she took a seat, ignoring
       her question for the moment
"Haven't we talked about the revealing dresses?" He asked.
"You're going to give us all nosebleeds!" He checked under his
nose to ensure he hadn't spoken it into reality. Chris wasn't a
big disciplinarian usually. But he tried to make his qualms
known as lightheartedly as possible. She looked good. He
didn't want to take that from her, but he also wanted the staff
focusing on their work, not her... assets. He cleared his
throat and prepared for business. "As for Lester, he brought
the revised agreement. He's not bending on the 30%. I don't want
to lose this one so I'm going to give it to him. I want you to
look over the agreement for anything we may have overlooked,
and take it to his office for finalization when you're done." He
knew she didn't care for Lester. Under normal conditions he
wouldn't make her go to his office, but they were pushing it
taking so long to forum their agreement. They needed to get to
       work on this project!

His first comment, predictably, was directed toward her
revealing dress. Sho respected office rules greatly and this
only happened once in a blue moon. Last night, the office, as
per usual, had taken up all her time and she had stayed late,
not realising the day she had planned in advance a week before.
With a low sigh, she leans forward, so her elbow is resting on
the desk, fluttering her eyelashes playfully.
“I promise it’s just today,” she laughs, watching him check
under his nose, “I have a date later, and this was what I found
that worked with my time frame.”
Office hours kept her on her feet but she couldn’t complain, the
pay was great. Not to say it was her only income. The wealthy
family she came from had a business or two, though she never did
take anything from her father. They didn’t have the typical
daddy’s little princess relationship; she actually hardly ever
       saw him.
“30 percent is way too much,” she sighs, “other companies hardly
       go a penny above 23.”
The filthy money loving cunt. She knew he was greedy but to this
extent? She takes the papers from Chris’ hand, tucking it under
her arm before puffing out her cheeks, irritated at the thought
of meeting him personally to give him the debrief. She knew this
was a necessary arrangement however and silently agreed.
“I’ll have it done by tomorrow. Need anything else?”
Sho waits, smiling over at Chris, to give some comfort - lately,
he seemed so stressed, the fine lines on his forehead slightly
       accentuated.
