A splash of color in the dark.
By: Matteus Date: November 4, 2015, 10:45 pm

Matteus turned to see Chroma there. She came with him? He nodded
to her questions. "This is where I came from. I'm not sure why
we are here though." Without thinking Matteus turned to Chroma
and wrapped his arms around her protectively. "This is not a
safe place to be. We shouldn't stay." He squeezed her before
walking into his trailer and pulling out a trunk. Then he filled
it with various clothes and his personal belongings.

Chroma blushed a bit as he suddenly pulled her into a hug. Wait,
this was a little protective and he was saying that it was
dangerous here. She blushed a bit, "D.. Dangerous? But, I
thought you'd... taken care of the threat?" She looked at him a
little confused, tilting her head. He was packing things up. She
stood there nervously. "W.. Where would we go?"

"There are those who don't agree with my choice." He sighed and
looked to her. "I meant for me love not you. It is dangerous for
me as well because I have many dark memories here and I don't
want to slip into darkness." He finished filling his bag and
walked over to her. "We can go anywhere we want. All we have to
do is start walking."
He lead her out the door and into a group of disgruntled staff
from the freak show. "What are we supposed to do now? You killed
our meal ticket. You may not have much problems making friends.
But some of us..." He looked over Chroma, "Don't have that
ability." Matteus held up his hands. "Frett not, we live in a
world where we can be accepted as you see. She isn't exactly our
normal customer is she? She's far to beautiful to be one of
them."
He took Chroma's hand and tugged it, pulling her through the
crowd and past the crowd. "Yeah, you should leave. You just cost
us our lively hood, there is nothing left for you here." The
stick man said. The stick man was a man about seven foot tall
with almost zero body fat. He towered slightly over Matteus who
stood just under six and a half feet tall.

She blushed and nodded. Anywhere they wanted to go. She didn't
really mind as long as she was with him. She was glad she had
her bag. It was all she needed to make a living if she really
wanted to.
She loved living in the forest, sleeping in the trees, though
normally she had been on the run. Here she didn't have to be.
When he took her outside she saw all the "freaks", and eyes them
all with true interest. With a similar look she'd given Matteus.
But when he took her hand she stopped in the middle of the crowd
because she looked at the man that had said she wasn't a normal
customer. "Live in a world where you can be accepted hmm? You
realize that where I come from I was locked up in a dark room
all by myself because of how I look?" She was standing in front
of the man that had been talking. "You can act like you've had
the worst life, but were you treated as if you were death
itself? Probably. Did you ever get tortured to the point that
you turned into another person? I know that my captors did that
to me."
She paced around and looked at all the others that were there.
"So what if your life has sucked up until now? Matteus has given
you a damn chance to change all that around!"
"Now... you can't tell me that you haven't had a dream of
something bigger than being showed off as nothing more than a
pet." she walked over to the stick man and took his hands in
hers. Her demeanor soft and quiet, but she spoke loud enough for
all to hear, "What are you good at? Or what do you want to do?
Do you want to help others like you?" She pulled away from him
and looked at everyone else. "Maybe you want to be a great cook,
or want to have a family?" She looked at them all, "To be
honest... I already see a family." She smiled a bit more,
"You've all been through so much together, yet now you turn on
the one person that has given you the freedom to choose who you
want to be instead of being a slave to someone else's wish's. If
I were you... I'd be thanking him." She looked over her shoulder
and walked out of the crowd before her whole schpeal actually
hit them. She just hoped that she hadn't fucked up and gotten
them into more trouble.

Was she really defending him? He stopped and looked at her as
she spoke to the crowd. With such purpose and meaning. He had
never had someone stand up for him except for her. He felt a
warmth in his chest that he hadn't felt in a long time. She had
stood up to her father for him, and now here was Chroma, facing
a whole crowd on his behalf. He squeezed her hand gently and
smiled happily. Everyone else seemed to be just as shocked by
this. A couple mumbled things but stepped back. Not going to
continue arguing with her. It could have been the subtle changes
in her hair color that shocked them. The look on her face. The
fact that she spoke to them as if they were real people instead
of freaks. But slowly one by one they turned away and began to
walk off, murmuring to themselves.
Matteus pulled on Chroma's hand and started walking. "Come on,
thank you." He whispered and tugged her in the direction of the
woods. "You didn't have to do that for me, but I appreciate that
you did. You sure shocked them." He tossed his head back and
laughed. The laugh echoing and sounding even more sinister than
his voice, as the laughs sounded like a combination of several
hisses and maniacal laughs all rolled into one.
He looked over Chroma again, she was beautiful. The way her
wildly colorful paint hair framed her face. The way no matter
what color lay against her flesh it went perfectly with her skin
tone. She seemed to be quite comfortable around him. It warmed
his heart. Not even most of the freaks were comfortable with
him. "So tell me Chroma, is there a place you have always wanted
to see? I could take you there. We could go look for just about
any place. I wouldn't mind going back to the hotel at some
point. The world is ours for the taking."

Chroma wasn't sure how to take their reaction. But she was
relieved. Her legs had been shaking until they had turned
around. They weren't going to pick a fight with her. Good. And
then Matteus spoke. And those wonderful shivers ran up her spine
when he laughed, she laughed with him. Not nervously, a full
blown laugh. What could she say, she loved his voice.
The darkness seeping out of her hair, become the bright rainbow
it should be. Though there where hints of more pink and red than
the other colors.
"Matteus... This isn't my world. I don't know anything of this
world. I can tell, because the energy is different." She smiled
a bit. Did she look a little pale compared to before? Maybe it
was a trick of the light. "To be honest... I would think
anywhere would be wonderful if you were with me." she blushed
lightly and looked up at him. "S.. So I don't really have
anywhere in particular to tell you."

Her words gave him a feeling deep in his body. One that he had
not felt since his relationship with his wife had barely begun.
Her laughter had warmed him. He squeezed her hand. Wanting to
kiss her right then and there. But it was too soon. He had only
just met her that day. Yet for some reason he felt like he had
known her far longer.
"What could I show you?" He tapped his chin. "Ah. I've got it. I
want to surprise you. But you gotta trust me. It is a bit of a
trip." He stepped behind her and wrapped her arms around her
from the back. Massive black wings spread from his back ripping
through his shirt. Veins of dulled colors spreading through
them. Claws pushed through the leathery tops and spreading,
making spines grow under the flesh. Through the pain her gritted
hia teeth and made sounds similar to a cats shrill cry, a bats
sonar and the snarl of a tiger.
As soon as the wings were fully extended they flapped sending a
mighty gust beneath them. They lifted into the air. Her cradled
her body gently against his. Her hair brushed against his face,
but he didn't mind. Paint didn't seem to get on him and it was
almost a comfort.

"Trust you? Matteus, what would make you question if I did or
not." she blushes, "I.. I mean when I first met you... you had
blood on your hands." She smiled softly, "Most people would be
scared off just by that." Her river of a voice sounded like the
crashing of gentle ocean waves.
When he pulled her close and his pain was evident she wanted to
turn around, to sooth his pain. But soon, they were in the air.
Her stomach in her throat for but a moment as she watched the
world fall away. She smiled and giggled. Wishing she could have
done more to help him.
Maybe when they landed she could rub some of the pain out. "So!"
she called out, "Where are we going?!"
