The man who cut the bearded advisor off must have been either
very insightful, or saw the problems that were on the way, for
as soon as the word "criminal" escaped the man's lips, streaks
of blood red began to fill Jasper's eyes. He had no idea that
his life very well may have been saved by the man's explanation.
"Before we continue, let me make it perfectly clear that if
anyone else has anything disrespectful to say about Ayla, you'll
be removed not only from this conference, but from my palace!"
His eyes returned to their brown state, as he took a deep breath
and listened to what the woman had to say before Ayla's return.
Her entrance naturally brought about quiite a reaction, But
Jasper could only smirk in response to her statement. In all
honesty, he didn't think she was wrong. In fact, once affairs
were in order, he wasn't certain he would keep any of them in
service.
It wasn't surprising to Jasper when she said she was content
with her lifestyle, but he couldn't hold back a chuckle when she
said she would think about it. "Is that so?" He asked, as he
stood up from his seat. "Because I don't think you'll really
think about it. As I was just telling my esteemed colleagues
here, I can't picture a scenario under which you would agree to
marry me and take not one, but two kingdoms under your wing." By
this point he had made it to the chair closest to the door,
where Ayla was seated. "Nonetheless, I'll grant you the time you
need. I think we're done here. I want a detailed plan tomorrow
on how to deal with the homes damaged in the confrontation with
my mother, and I trust there will be nothing in it about raising
the citizens taxes. Adjourned." With that, he turned and walked
out the door, leaving the elders mumbling amongst themselves.
Moments later, he was at the stables. He had only been awakw a
few hours and he was already tired of being in the castle. time
for a ride...

Jasper hadn't expected to see anyone after leaving the castle.
It was late at night. he knew how to avoid the Guards, which he
had always made a mental note to correct once he was King. So
when he saw Ayla come in behind him in the stables, he had to
admit, it was a bit of a surprise. But even more shocking than
her presence, was her royal appearance. It reminded him of Essie
sneaking out in the days just after she had moved to the Castle.
he wondered if the two knew just how much they had in common...
Eyes lit up a bright purple color when the newly discovered
Princess said she was game just as much as the smile lit his
face. "Well then you'd better keep up!" He and Shadow took off
to the North, going off trail as soon as he was sure Ayla was
behind him. Jasper loved the feeling of the wind when he rode.
And he loved the feeling of putting distance between himself and
eveyrthing else quickly. He headed up the mountain toward a spot
overlooking the Kingdom. He got off his horse, and tied him to a
tree before walking over and looking down on his Kingdom.ost of
it was well lit, and looking well, but there were sections that
were severely damaged from battle. It would be a quick fix if
the old coots would just get to it... "So why are you looking
all prim and proper?" He would ask whenever Ayla found her way
tohis position. "I'm not used to it!"

Of course the elders had put her up to the look. It just didn't
seem like something she would do on her own. Not that she wasn't
beautiful, mind you. It just didn't seem natural. Eyes filled
with purple and light blue observed her. It may not have been
her normal look, but something told Jasper she was secretly
enjoying it. A slight smile played on his face for just a
moment, and widened when she expressed her happiness at his
improved condition. "Thanks for watching over me." His voice was
soft and airy, almost distant, though his words were clearly
sincere. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but
wonder...
And then came the teasing. Beads of pink drew into his irises as
he listened to the woman's "Brilliant idea" but he couldn't be
drawn into it. No matter how alluring she was, he coudlnt'
believe it. This wasn't her battle. So when she retreated, and
gave her alternate plan, he wasn't thrown off. Instead, he
smirked, and walked up behind her, grabbing her by the base of
her braid, and pulling down, forcing her hair back. "Aw.. And
here I was looking forward to our big fishing trip..." His lips
hovered inches from the side of her neck, cool breath dancing
over her skin, before a quick motion released her braid,
allowing her hair to flow free. "I like it better that way." He
said, before walking over and taking a seat on a big rock,
offering her a seat next to him.
His eyes were a darker blue as he looked out at the Kingdom this
time. His smile was gone as well. "I want you to stay in the
Kingdom." All hints of jokes were gone from his voice. "Even if
it's not as Queen, you're still a Royal." It was at that point
that he thought of the words that Harry spoke to him. Could he
have been right?

Jasper contemplated the woman's words carefully, and though he
didn't voice it, he found himself in disagreement. He wasn't
built for that world. He was trained for it. He felt just as
much at home in the woodlands, or in the mountains as he did in
his own bed. Hell probably moreso because that was where he
always found himself. He looked around at his surroundings. He
knew them like the back of his hand. His eyes then Drifted to
the Kingdom, which was also important to him. In that way, among
others, he was torn...
"I can't tell you which life is better for you." Jasper said,
Rings of indigo floated around in his eyes like bubbles,
bouncing off each other and changing course in response. But I
can tell you that, regardless of the views of the old ones,
you're not hated here. Didn't you leave your son here because
you thought it would be a better life for him? Are you saying
that's different now? If anything, I'd say that's a reason to at
least consider it." They had never actually discussed her son,
considering Jasper had lost consciousness after saving the boy.
Jasper knew it was a sensitive topic, that had rubbed Ayla the
wrong way in the past. But it was something he felt he deserved
to be able to talk about, since Ayla had put everyone in danger
by keeping him a secret.
"Not just a right." Jasper corrected. "A choice."
With every minute that passed, Jasper began to understand what
Harry was saying more and more. Not of his intentions to toy
with Ayla, but of her facade, and how she used her tough
exterior to cover what she was feeling. Be it anger, seduction,
or jokes, it was always intended to cover up something deeper.
And he wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing by pushing
her to stay. He didn't want to see her leave, but he didn't know
what would happen should she stay. As things were, he was set to
marry Essie, and if he did, they would always be a reminder of
the way things could have been. But things were to change, and
Ayla became the heir, it would literally take away everything
Essie had prepared her whole life for. Things were bound to be
complicated either way. Essie and Ayla... Each had what the
other lacked. But at their core, they had many things in common.
If they would only try, they might learn that....
When Jasper snapped out of his mind, Essie was inches from his
face. He wasn't sure whether to kiss her, or retreat, but before
he could react, she made the decision, and wiped some imaginary
dirt from his face. "Thanks..." He said, knowing full well that
she was attempting to contain herself, as he had the other
night. It flashed before him in his mind. At that time, he had
held himself back, to protect himself. Now it seemed she was
doing the same. Things were supposed to get easier when he
became King... Why did it have to turn out like this? "Let's go
out to the Fort." He said, raising up to his feet. "I'd like to
thank everyone for helping me out."

Jasper shook his head once more. "I haven't made any decisions
for you Ayla. I couldn't, even if I wanted to. I just want you
to know that you're welcome, no... Wanted Here." He regretted
his choice of words as soon as they departed his lips, flying
through the air like doves grasping their freedom. In the back
of his mind, he thought of how everything would fall into place
if she -did- leave. But for some reason that wasn't good enough
for him. Maybe Harry -was- right about Royals. Maybe they did
want it all...
Jasper sighed when it was discovered that Ayla had let her horst
get away. "That was my mother's favorite horse..." He said, a
hint of sentimentality in his voice. "Oh well. Maybe it's for
the best. When she said that she would have to ride in his lap,
he couldn't help but wonder if she had done it on purpose.
Indigo rings filled in with violet and he smiled and made room
for her between his legs.
The ride to the fort was... Well it was something! For the first
time, Jasper was conscious of every bump, slight turn or tilt
the horse took. He could feel it all. And if there was anything
Ayla didn't know about Jasper before, she knew it now...The ride
seemed so much longer than it should have, which Jasper wasn't
complaining about, but DAMN! It seemed he could never catch a
break
When they arrived, there were already men on guard, but they
quickly relaxed upon seeing that it was Jasper and Ayla who had
arrived. They met them with smiles and happy greetings and
arranged for everyone to meet in the Dining area.
Once Everyone had gathered, Jasper spoke up. "I just wanted to
personally thank each and every one of you for aiding in my
battle. I know that many of you have long standing issues with
the crown, and you backed me up despite my connection to it. I
want you to know that your bravery, and those you lost aren't
overlooked. Many of you are fugitives to the Kingdom. I
understand that some of you even have bounties on your heads. I
want you to know that as of this moment, those charges are
lifted! I know you've built a way of life here in these woods,
but should you ever choose to return to a life of civilization,
I will personally find a place for you. But for now, let's eat!"
A cheer echoed through the woods as the men celebrated.
Tomorrow, it would be all about business, but for now, Jasper
just wanted to let go...

Ayla told stories of the Kingdom as if she had lived there all
her life. Jasper laughed along with everyone, but a part of him
was contemplative; Thinking about how he hadn't been present for
any of the things that made Ayla laugh while she was in his
home, and how she seemed to take to it more naturally than she
would admit. When she reached out to touch his hand, he got the
message. He gave her a smile, before Harry broke up the moment,
most likely intentionally. Jasper knew how protective he was of
her. And rightfully so. But Jasper didn't want to talk or think
about business that night, and Harry had put it back at the
forefront of his mind.
He took a gulp of whiskey as well, and enjoyed the festivities
quietly. At a moment when Ayla had everyone's complete
attention, he slipped out; A skill he had grown quite proficient
at. Minutes later, he found himself at the lake near the
treehouse he had slept in before. He skipped a couple rocks,
before he had an idea that made him laugh to himself. He climbed
up the treehouse and looked around until he found what he was
searching for. It was a well crafted fish hook! It took him a
while to find a good string to attach it to, then he went and
found the perfect branch to use for the rod. Minutes later, he
was sitting on a rock with a worm on the hook and a pigeon
feather as a lure. He wasn't really concentrating on catching
fish. His mind was in a million places, but something about
fishing was soothing, so we just went with it...

It seemed that, like Essie, Aylahad the ability to notice when
Jasper slipped away, even if it was under the radar. He
chuckled when she mentioned his nickname, and shook his head.
"Well rumor has it, that I tend to disappear at important
moments. But the truth is, most moments just aren't all that
important. Wise words from a King. Remember them." He said with
a laugh.
He shruged after she spoke her conclusion about his actions.
"What can I say?" He asked. "I suddenly got the urge to go
fishing." He offered the woman a wink and looked at his
makeshift fishing pole. He'd never catch a thing with it. But
then, he had no doubts that she would catch on to his discrete
teasing. He watched as she made her way over to the water. Be
she lit by sun or moon light, she was a glorious sight for
multicolored eyes. He admired her silently, until the water
came flying his way!Eyes wide, and shifting to a bright yellow,
he growled at the woman. "Now you've gone and scared all the
fish away!" He yelled playfully, before pouncing from the rock
and tackling Ayla into the water. He quickly swam out of reach,
and sent a wave of water her way once she came up, laughing
uproariously. This was what he needed. Time to just be Jasper.
Not King, Not leader of a rebellion. But just.... Jasper.

Prize? Ayla was mistaken if she thought it was over just like
that!Jasper was getting ready to fall backwards into the water,
taking Ayla with him, but she released him quickly, making her
way around and splashing him. he chased her to the shore, but
she gained a lead once she hit land, She ran into the woods to
hide, but the water dripping from her soaked dress left a trail.
As soon as Jasper made it to land, he realized his shoes were
squeaking. He removed them, as well as his shirt, and followed
the trail, walking as quietly as he could, until he jomped
behind the tree, and scooped Ayla up in his arms in one solid
motion! "Now I win!" He said, spinning her around as quickly as
he could, before returning the dizzy Princess to her feet.
"What's -my- Prize?

Cheap trick" Jasper called out, as Ayla disappeared into the
distance. Once he was freed, He headed in the direction she had
gone to find she had left her dress on the ground, no doubt in
attempts to prevent leaving another trail. But unfortunately for
her, Jasper was still able to follow her footprints in the soil.
They eventually disappeared at the base of the rope ladder to
the treehouse. Did she call that a hiding place? There was
nowhere to run! Jasper followed her up, but just before he
reached the top he realized what he would find up there... Too
late now! He reached the top and took a quick glance around.
This was surely a trap, and he was walking right into it...

Jasper growled, much like an animal being robbed of his meal,
but ultimately obeyed, returning to his feet, and watching as
Ayla took his position on her knees. his purple platypus stood
at attention, as if in anticipation of a coming reward. A pat on
the head, or maybe a real treat! And a real treat it was!
Jasper's lip found it'self caught between his teeth as he
watched Ayla paint his portrait with such expertise. It was
difficult to stand shill long enough to allow her to finish, as
every moment drove him to take her out for a trip to disneyland.
He wanted her to ride all the rides and have a great time, and
yet, for the moment, all he could do was grab a handful of hair,
and hope his knees didn't buckle before his image was completed.
But Jasper wouldn't see Ayla's work of art just yet. He backed
away on wobbly legs, and pushed th ewoman back onto her back.
She was the type who enjoyed control. She wouldn't have it now.
The remote would stay in Jasper's hand, and the game was on!
Pink and purple eyes locked onto his favorite channel as his
first batter slid right into home! one point for the team!
